[FairfieldLife] The US Navy has an unmanned vessel to hunt for nuclear subs

2016-03-31 Thread jr_...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
But can it avoid fishing vessels, cargo ships and passenger ships in the open
seas? The video clip doesn't answer these questions.

there is nothing in this list to indicate TM Governors die young, this list
does not show all the Governors, many who are alive and very old.

Yourodds of living 10 more years.. if you are 45 years of age is about 24in 25.
Accordingto the USA Census your odds of making it ten more years if you
are:53years of age is about 10 in 11. Your odds of living 10 years more from 60
years of age is about 5 in 6. Yourodds of making it 10 more years if you are 68
are about 3 in 4.  Ifyou are 70 the odds are 2 in 3 that you will make it 10
more years. Age75, 1 in 2 will last ten more years.   Age 80, 1 in 3 you will
last 10years.   At age 85, 3 in 20 will make it another 10 years. Age 88, 1 in
20 living at age 88 will make it another 10 years, ..cumulatively, most
everyone else is gone before then.
Thedie-off really starts to happen from about age 60. Very few actuallymake it
to be older than age 85,  most are gone on by then.

Rates of Change.  The calculus of aging in TM..
Some of what we can see in these mortality lists of TM'ers below is a natural
aging-out of the Post-War Cohort, the people who were early with Maharishi in
the very early SRM movement,  the Walter Koch and Charlie Lutes generation of
TM.
Now what we are seeing in TM is an accelerating rate of attrition to aging-out
of the Boomer I and Boomer II’s.  Interestingly, the cusp time period where the
Boomers I and Boomers II met was the time frame where TM took off in popular
(college undergrad, grad student, professor-age) culture for a time.  A lot of
the TM movement intake happened in those years 1968-76, over the cusp of the
Boomers I and II.  The teaching of TM virtually disappeared during the 1980's,
1990's and first half of the 00's.  Initiations have crept upward since y-2006.

You can see this particular cusp of Boomers I and II in the general age span in
the Dome meditation or at campus meetings of the TM community now.  The WWII
generation is pretty much gone from the ranks of TM now.  The Post-War Cohort
are pretty gone or geriatric now and the Boomers I are increasingly shuffling
or gone on.  Boomers II are increasingly ‘in diminish’.  Time is short
regardless.
Post-War CohortBorn: 1928-1945Coming of Age: 1946-1963Age in 2004: 59 to
76Current Population: 41 million (declining)
Boomers I or The Baby BoomersBorn: 1946-1954Coming of Age: 1963-1972Age in
2004: 50-58Current Population: 33 million

Boomers II or Generation JonesBorn: 1955-1965Coming of Age: 1973-1983Age in
2004: 39 to 49Current Population: 49 million

For a long time the Baby Boomers were defined as those born between 1945 and
1964. That would make the generation huge (71 million) and encompass people who
were 20 years apart in age. It didn't compute to have those born in 1964
compared with those born in 1946.

That's the Secret Service code name for Donald Trump.  And the "model"?
Trump thinks that's for his wife.  But I don't understand why Obama's code name
was "renegade", nor why Michelle's code name is "'Renaissance".
One wonders what Hillary Clinton's code name is.  For Bill Clinton, I would
guess it's "Slick"

Now what we are seeing in TM is an accelerating rate of attrition to aging-out

(college undergrad, grad student, professor-age) culture for a time. A lot of
the TM movement intake happened in those years 1968-76, over the cusp of the

1990's and first half of the 00's. Initiations have crept upward since y-2006.

You can see this particular cusp of Boomers I and II in the general age span
in the Dome meditation or at campus meetings of the TM community now. The WWII
generation is pretty much gone from the ranks of TM now. The Post-War Cohort
are pretty gone or geriatric now and the Boomers I are increasingly shuffling
or gone on. Boomers II are increasingly ‘in diminish’. Time is short
regardless.

 Post-War Cohort
 Born: 1928-1945
 Coming of Age: 1946-1963
 Age in 2004: 59 to 76
 Current Population: 41 million (declining)

Boomers I or The Baby Boomers
 Born: 1946-1954
 Coming of Age: 1963-1972
 Age in 2004: 50-58
 Current Population: 33 million

 Boomers II or Generation Jones
 Born: 1955-1965
 Coming of Age: 1973-1983
 Age in 2004: 39 to 49
 Current Population: 49 million

For a long time the Baby Boomers were defined as those born between 1945 and
1964. That would make the generation huge (71 million) and encompass people who
were 20 years apart in age. It didn't compute to have those born in 1964
compared with those born in 1946.

That's the Secret Service code name for Donald Trump. And the "model"? Trump

One wonders what Hillary Clinton's code name is. For Bill Clinton, I would

Hardly, it is yoga lite for the masses and a pop culture technique for
the 1970s. We're in the 21st century. There are plenty of real yogis
around who can teach much more powerful techniques and even better yoga
lite techniques. But if one doesn't get out much they won't know that.

It seems to be essential for most people to be able to count

Spiritually immature people in a lot of groups behave like this. “Our
technique/teacher/etc. is the bestest!” It’s an ego-booster. “It must
be the best because if it weren’t I wouldn’t be doing it, because I’m
so discerning and wise.”

Yeah, TM’ers do seem to contend a fight over meditations. The
antagonism with the other practices begins right away in the TM intro
lectures. Seems a marketing device employed on or by TM'ers.

But why are TM’ers so persnickety? Among old Quakers those members who
were well established in the transcendent, noticeably as those who
could sit with and settle a meeting by their presence, were referred
to as ‘weighty’ friends to meditate with. TM’ers instead can come
across as spiritually arrogant and exclusive. Yet, Patanjali seems to
indicate in his discussion of combining dharana, dhyan and samadhi in
meditation like the in the aggregate of the TM-siddhis or in that last
technique Maharishi was working on, the Ved and Physiology practice
that combines attention and intention (very much like some buddhistic
practice) with samadhi/transcendence. TM’ers could adopt a more
helpful attitude and show up for some of these collective meditations
with others. Like reaching out and lending a hand. It seems a cultural
problem as much as anything that TM’ers may have which turns to
shunning others. -JaiGuruYou

Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: Activist Meditators and A day of silent prayer ..Meditation 's Going Mainstream

2016-03-31 Thread upfron...@ymail.com [FairfieldLife]

Hi. I have personally experienced that the practice of Transcendental
Meditation has very deep healing powers and actively promote it (in the right
context i would use the adjective 'miraculous').

However, I recently had to find an alternative for people at work that was
free from any religious or mystical association (including mantra meditation)
which was also not recognised as ‘mindfulness’ (and was also inexpensive).

I expect those who have stayed in the loop have come across ‘Conscious Mental
Rest’…

 http://www.unlock-your-happiness.com/conscious-mental-rest.html

…but it looks like a good contender for ‘non-mediation meditation’. The chap
who has developed this says this:

 [quote]
Yogic flying with Conscious Mental Rest (CMR)

Of interest, I have experimented with the TM-Sidhi sutras after a session of
my own Conscious Mental Rest form of meditation, instead of using
Transcendental MeditationTM.

I have consistently had the same experience as when the sidhis are used on the
basis of TM. I lift off and hop just as effortlessly as I do with the TM-Sidhi
programme.

So it would seem to me that, for whatever scientific explanation there may be,
my process of Conscious Mental Rest provides the same consciousness state on
which the sutras can 'work' effectively, including the yogic flying sutra. I
must add that this is based on my own personal experience; it has not been
proven scientifically.

Some of what we can see in these lists is a natural aging-out of the Post-War
Cohort, the people who were early with Maharishi in the very early SRM
movement, the Walter Koch and Charlie Lutes generation of TM.

You can see this particular cusp in the age span in the Dome or at campus
meetings of the TM community now. The WWII generation is pretty much gone from
the ranks of TM now. The Post-War Cohort are pretty gone or geriatric now and
the Boomers I are increasingly shuffling or gone on. Boomers II are
increasingly ‘in diminish’. Time is short regardless.

 Post-War Cohort
 Born: 1928-1945
 Coming of Age: 1946-1963

 Current Population: 41 million (declining)

Boomers I or The Baby Boomers

 Born: 1955-1965
 Coming of Age: 1973-1983
 Age in 2004: 39 to 49
 Current Population: 49 million

For a long time the Baby Boomers were defined as those born between 1945 and
1964. That would make the generation huge (71 million) and encompass people who
were 20 years apart in age. It didn't compute to have those born in 1964
compared with those born in 1946.

Yes, this larger survey is interesting base-line data on the larger meditating
community in Fairfield from back when the meditating community and the Dome
numbers were more around their peak as the long decline (attrition) was then
ensuing. You can see the seeds and the consequent beginning of the cultivated
socioeconomic exclusivity sprouting then and the administrative separation of
meditators from membership in the group meditation over visiting saints and
spiritual people that had started in the late 1980's and through the 1990's to
present.

Since the larger sample community survey of the early 1990's there have only
been small sample surveys of sub-groups. In a way the recent book on Fairfield
[How a New Age Movement Remade a Small Town in Iowa] by the journalist, Joseph
Weber is a survey by extensive interviewing of the Fairfield meditating
community that is current. A few years ago when there was such strife in the
sustainable living students an interview survey was hired and conducted of the
university SL students about their experience at the university. The results
were presented to the administration and then defended against by the
President. That survey and more recent surveying has been useful more recently
in guiding some policy changes around the university and MSAE student life
currently.

While the progressive side of the TM movement has been methodically tracking
metrics and hiring marketing surveying related to the teaching of meditation,
there have not been broad surveying of the meditating community of the scale of
the 1994 survey. That could proly be too frightening for some of the key
patriarchs of old administration on watch of the movement to see.

The closest thing to that kind of surveying would be a larger ongoing survey
of collected first-person cases by a sub-committee of the Fairfield Mental
Health Alliance compiling cases where people have felt their well-being was
effected by their experience with the culture of the movement. There is a range
and distribution to those collected cases which have clearly indicated areas
for policy changes that could improve elements of culture and consequences in
aspects of the movement. Elements of the movement are moving on some of this
while some ideologues try to hold a dogmatic line against it. Having
'data-points' has been extremely helpful towards seeing policy. There is a lot
in process going on and things are also fluid. -JaiGuruYou

 Community-wide Survey Results
(also saved as documents in the FairfieldLife at Yahoo-groups files section.)
 Dear Meditator,
In late spring (1994), the Community Forum sponsored a community-wide survey
to sample opinion on a wide range of issues that affect our lives. Based on a
compiled list of Fairfield-area meditators, we sent out approximately 2,000
surveys. We received 659 completed surveys, for a response rate of about 33%.
(The response rate may even be higher; since we used bulk mail, we do not know
the exact number of surveys delivered.) In the field of written surveys, a
response rate of 33% is considered outstanding.
Survey respondents come from a cross-section of our community: 84% have been
meditating for 16 years or longer; 68% have lived in Fairfield for seven years
or more; and 68% are registered for Super Radiance. Although not every
meditator filled out a survey, we believe the results provide significant
insights into how meditators feel about important issues and about our lives in
Fairfield.
 Survey Data
This document provides the raw data for all questions except for the essays.
For the essays, this document lists the more common suggestions and comments.
Looking at the data, one can identify responses of general consensus and also
responses reflecting widely diverse opinions. Where there is a clear need and
desire in a particular area of concern, the Community Forum will hold open
meetings so that interested people can come together, discuss options, and
explore possible solutions.
The survey data can also be evaluated from a variety of different perspectives
(e.g., age, gender, income, Movement status, etc.). We encourage anyone with
statistical analytical skills to help us analyze the survey results more
thoroughly.

 Thank You!
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the survey! We would also
like to thank those who wrote to us with comments and suggestions about the
survey.

A friend of mine in FF has a Mahindra tractor, and I noticed a plaque on it
with engine specs, and the engine is Korean. From the Mahindra Tractors
Wikipedia page:

"For the USA market, Mahindra has purchased their core products from Tong Yang
Moolsan, one of the top tractor manufacturers in South Korea to cover selected
product ranges."

The tractor may have an Indian accent, but the exhaust smells like kimchi.
