[FairfieldLife] Fairfield Craiglist
I received the following email from a friend: Hello and Happy Wednesday!!! I'm sure some of you are familiar with Craigslist. It is a free website that people in a community use to advertise and find jobs, yard sales, free stuff, apartments, events, classes, etc, etc. For example, here is the one for Iowa City. http://iowacity.craigslist.org There is currently not a Craigslist page for Fairfield, and I think this community could really benefit from having one. So, I wrote an email to them, and I encourage you to do the same. They add new towns based on the number of requests they receive. So, if they hear from enough of us, they will add Fairfield! Even though Fairfield is small, it is such a unique community and I know that people here would really love to use Craigslist. If you feel compelled to write to them, click here http://sfbay.craigslist.org/cgi-bin/emailForm.cgi And if you need ideas about what to say, here is what I wrote: Hi! I have just moved to Fairfield, Iowa, which is about an hour south of Iowa City, and have found that what is most notably lacking here is a Craigslist site! This community is so amazing and unique. There are thousands of people practicing Transcendental Meditation twice daily here, and so even though it is small, the demographic is such that a Craigslist site would be well utilized. Please consider this suggestion. It would improve the quality of life here so much to have access to the amazing Craigslist! Thanks!

[FairfieldLife] Small Dog Free to Good Home
Dear Friends, We found a stray dog in our neighborhood on Thursday night and she's in need of a good home. Unfortunately, she was intentionally abandoned, and we saw the owners speeding away! We cannot keep her as we already have a dog and a 2 year old child! She is a small dog, 13 lbs., approximately 1 year old, very well behaved and fully potty-trained (to go outside; not on the potty, of course). She is a mix of dogs and has a little terrier or something in her. She's black with brown legs; some gray and brown around her face. She's cute. We took her to the vet and she's perfectly healthy, but not spayed. She is not pregnant. She has had a couple of baths, so she's very clean. She's behaves well with our dog and is also gentle with our 2 year old daughter. She would be a good pet for a home with or without children. Please feel free to call if you'd like to come visit her. Or let me know if you'd like photos emailed. Thanks, Christine Pappas 2350 Seven Hills Rd Fairfield, IA 52556 641-226-0891

[FairfieldLife] Re: Researcher say transcendental meditation lessens brain's pain response
How valuable is this? Probably more valuable to a pregnant woman going into labor, than the idiot at home with his hand on a hot stove. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, gerbal88 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, bob_brigante no_reply@ wrote: Researcher say transcendental meditation lessens brain's pain response So, how valuable is this? you are a long time TMer and you have your hand on a hot stove and you don't respond until what, you smell your flesh starting to bubble? There's a reason we feel pain and diminishing that resonse is hardly something good. -- If your brain is sluggish to a pain stimulous, this isn't a good thing. How nuts is this, anyway? Next some lunatic is going to claim that TM enables you to fly (without benefit of an airplane). Oh, wait, some lunatic has already claimed that. The real value of TM is being able to collect the money from all the fools who get so deeply involved. That would be Mahesh. I can't see anyone else benefitting. Transcendental meditation may reduce the brain's reaction to pain, say researchers at the University of California, Irvine. They used neuroimaging to monitor the brains of 12 healthy people who'd been practicing transcendental meditation for 30 years. These individuals had a 40% to 50% lower brain response to pain than 12 people in a control group who did not practice transcendental meditation. However, after the volunteers in the control group had learned and practiced transcendental meditation for five months, their brains' responses to pain also decreased by 40% to 50%, the study said. The findings were published in the current issue of the journal NeuroReport. Transcendental meditation may produce a physiological state that's capable of modifying various kinds of pain, the researchers suggested. Prior research indicates that transcendental meditation creates a more balanced outlook on life and greater equanimity in reacting to stress. This study suggests that this is not just an attitudinal change, but a fundamental change in how the brain functions, study lead author David Orme-Johnson, a meditation researcher, said in a prepared statement. The study was supported by a grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
