We need some action here getting people to come meditate out of this very

 Non-meditation

It seems to me that many non-meditators have forgotten—or never knew—what it
is like to suffer an unhappy collision with scientific rationality. We are
open to good evidence and sound argument as a matter of principle, and are
generally willing to follow wherever they may lead. Certain of us have made
careers out of bemoaning the failure of people to adopt this same attitude.

However, I recently stumbled upon an example of secular intransigence that
may give readers a sense of how spiritual people feel when their methods as
technologies are criticized. As you will see but for the rigorous research
conducted it suggests that it is worth thinking
about. We can call the phenomenon of non-meditation the delusion.

The unhappy truth about non-meditation has been scientifically established to
a moral certainty: That non-meditation is bad for you. It is bad for your
children. It is bad for your neighbors and their children. Non-meditation is
also completely unnecessary, because in the developed world we suppose we
invariably have better and more effective alternatives for meditation even in
 our homes. If you
are a non-meditator in the United States, Europe, Australia, or any other
developed nation, you are most likely doing so recreationally—and the
persistence of this habit is a major source of anti-spiritual pollution in
 cities throughout the world.

In fact, non-meditation often contributes more harmful parameters of
negativity particulates to the urban air than any other source.
Certainly a human life is a terrible potential to waste in non-meditation.

Note on the 1331 Pundits. The usage of the numbers of Pundits (1, 11, 121,
1331,...) is a hilarious corruption of the actual application of those numbers
sourced in Pascal's triangle and possibly imported from independent Chinese and
European discoveries (proably the former).
...
The triangle begins:
1;
1, 1;
1, 2, 1
1, 3, 3, 1
1, 4, 6, 4, 1;
...
denoting a distribution of a set of entites into subsets, not 1,331 or
(121).
For example:
One previous contributor for the time being kicked off this forum seemed to
categorize people into 3 types: a. Those Enlightened vs Unenlightened, b.
females and males (he had a preference for females); and c. Those who perform a
certain sex act which won't be mentioned.
...
For those interested in the math, this makes 8 possible types of people if each
category has only 2 possibilities with no in-betweens.
The distribution suming to 8 is (1, 3, 3, 1); with the 1's on either side
amounting to (for example); people with a certain trait among all three vs the
other 1 on the right, those NOT.
...
Example: say the subsets are (a,b,c) = yes: a1 = Enlightened, a2 = NOT
Enlightened. b = b1 = female, b2 = male. c1 = performs the particular sex
act, while c2 does NOT perform that particular act.
...
Thus, if a person is (a2, b2, c1); he would be Unenlightened, male, and
performs that act. There are 8 possible outcomes with a distribution of (1, 3,
3, 1). That's not 1,331 as in the numbers of Pundits. It's a distribution.
However, IF there were 1,3,3,1 Pundits, all of them would be male, some
Enlightened while the rest not; and some would of course might perform that
particular sex act while others don't.

By Richard H. Pitcairn - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)This review is from: Franklin Merrell-Wolff's Experience and
Philosophy: A Personal Record of Transformation and a Discussion of
Transcendental Consciousness (Paperback)
I have not read this book but many years ago after reading the 1983 Pathways
Through To Space I arranged to meet the writer as part of my spiritual search.
I had been a student of Krishnamurti's writings (and live talks) for some years
and was very interested in learning from F. M-Wolff after reading his book. I
contacted him and visited him and his wife at their desert home for several
days and they were kind enough to allow me to stay there share their meals (in
exchange for yard work). Two things stand out for me in that experience. One
was his questioning of my preference for a vegetarian diet (my futile gesture
to at least minimize the suffering of animals) and the long-anticipated
sit-down talk about his philosophy and understanding. The talk consisted of one
question How long have you been on the path?. I, coming from the teachings of
Krishnamurti in which following a path was not quite the right thing to do, I
was at first puzzled and not sure if he meant his path or something more
general, so I responded with What path? thinking he would clarify. Instead it
was the end of the conversation. I was blown off, dismissed as inadequate
material to spend any more time on. Looking back at it I am still amazed at the
lack of insight and understanding and patience shown that interaction. Perhaps
I expected too much of one presumably enlightened but truth is I did expect
more than that. Writing down ideas is one thing but the actuality another.

[FairfieldLife] A Christian Reflection on the New Age

2012-01-27 Thread Yifu
Published in 2003, follows a 1989 document engineered by the current Pope
when he was the Grand Inquisitor; which warns against New Age and/or Eastern
types of meditation. TM of course would be included though I don't know if it
was specifically mentioned.
...
The TMO's proponents seem to have a propensity to appropriate the teachings of
various non-TM forms of meditation by including the latter in the guise of the
quest for Pure Consciousness. This won't work since: (a) a brief search in
Wiki under Christian Meditation makes it clear that Jesus Christ is the focus
of such meditation, not the realization of the impersonal Absolute. Of course,
this could be a fatal flaw in the Grand Inquisitor's viewpoint since a reading
of the works of such people as Aquinas, St. John of the Cross, and others;
appears to include a recognition of the impersonal Self along with devotion to
Jesus.
...
More specifically, wrt LEVITATION, a reading of the works of famous levitators
such as St. Francis, St. John of the Cross, and St. Teresa of Avila points to
their Mystical Union with Jesus as the key ingredient in Ecstatic states of
Rapture in which the Soul becomes elevated above the physical body, at times
pulling the body upward off of the ground, resulting in physical levitation.
The bottom line: it appears that successful true levitation may require other
ingredients besides realization of Pure Consciousness; and it's typical of
the ongoing dispicable dishonesty of various authors associated with the TMO to
compare TM with SOC's associated with the famous levitating Catholic Saints. In
short, the latter universally practiced Christocentric meditation on the Person
of Jesus, being the key ingredient that catapaulted their Souls above the
physical, at times physically elevating the physical body above the ground, as
if pulled up by a Supernatural Force. Thus, levitators should look to the
source of this Sidhi in a Supernatural Force, not the unmanifest Absolute. If
mere Self Realization were a sufficient cause for true levitation, then we
would see the many Advaitins such as Adyashanti, Gangaji, Eckhart Tolle and
others in numerous Youtube presentations elevated in mid air, notwithstanding
Hagelin, Jerry, Bevan, and MMY himself.
...
Here's part of the Wiki entry:

The document has 6 main sections, as well as an appendix, and glossary of New
Age terms.[2] The main sections are:

1. What sort of reflection. This section discusses the context and timing of
the document. It states that the Third Millennium, two thousand years after the
birth of Christ, is a time when astrologers believe that the Age of Pisces is
drawing to a close. Hence a time when the public is bombarded with the New Age
message may be the right moment to offer an assessment of why it is not
consistent with the Christian message.

2. New Age spirituality: an overview. This section provides an overview of the
New Age Movement and its history. Referring to Harmony and Good Vibrations, it
criticizes the approach of being in tune with nature or the cosmos, claiming
that it blurs the distinction between good and evil and creates the mindset
that we cannot condemn anyone, and nobody needs forgiveness.
[my comment...this part on forgiveness is of course incorrect since New Agers
don't claim any such thing].

Golden living: The document claims that New Age practices can be associated
with other practices, listing acupuncture, biofeedback, kinesiology,
homeopathy, iridology and various kinds of bodywork, polarity massage,
meditation and visualisation, psychic healing, healing by crystals, metals,
music or colors, and twelve-step programs.
Wholeness and dualism: The document states that the New Age encourages that we
should overcome dualisms, such as Creator and creation, the distinction between
man and nature, or spirit and matter.

Central themes of the New Age. The document claims that the New Age is not a
religion, but is interested in what is called divine. Some common points in
the New Age movement are:
The cosmos is seen as an organic whole, animated by an energy, soul or spirit
Credence is given to the mediation of various spiritual entities
Humans are assumed capable of ascending to invisible higher spheres
A perennial knowledge pre-dates and is superior to all religions and cultures
People are encouraged to follow enlightened masters.

3. New Age and Christian faith. The document states that for Christians, the
spiritual life is a relationship with God.[i.e. the Personal God, Jesus as part
of the Trinity,...not Brahman] It criticizes Eastern meditation and states
that all meditation techniques need to be purged of presumption and
pretentiousness.[again wrong since presumption and pretentiousnes don't play a
role in the correct practice of TM, which takes it as it comes]. It states
that Christian prayer is not an exercise in self-contemplation, stillness and
self-emptying, but a dialogue of love, one

If everyone knew who He was they would run after Him for all the wrong

but because He is the long awaited one.

Also, how do you know MMY was informed of Maitreya's arrival in 1978?

It's all in his speeches on January 12. from 1978 if you listen carefully. He

You know in working with livestock, inflection is often nine tenths of the

see that much of the problem with discussions here on this list is that
people can't hear how things are being said as to what is being said.
Likewise, in this whole discussion around the FFL resolution on sin, it seems
something is being lost in the print that keeps people from converting.

Take a listen to this. It sounds remarkable like to how I sound when I

Yes; !Amarkoners repent! Yes, it is in the Greek I pray for these really
big Amarkoners here to return home. These TM expatriates. The ex-patriots
indeed. Here we have one of the biggest natural law peace-creating things
going on and these guys spurn it always puking on it here. That is
spiritual sin in the Greek way as also per the FFL Resolution on Sin too.
Is perfectly fair to judge who is with us in this natural law too as
transcendentalists and who is against it, and us. It is calling sin for
what it is, a sin a sin.

However, the reverse is even more trueNature will grant favor

This is kind of heavy handed Buck. Fortunately I am not immune to being
heavy handed in thought, and as Barry would possibly say, overbearing
and pompous. If the unified field is truth, one cannot actually speak
it, one can only point to it because it is transcendent to speech. All
speech in the world in reference to it is as a lie. Nature is not
personal, it visits on one without regard to person. Favour and delight
are the experience of those who experience the unified field, but nature
remains the same impersonal force of will that is the unified field,
enlightened or unenlightened. It is not will as a person imagines will
to be; it is far more mysterious and inscrutable.

The Greek word for sin in the Bible is 'amarkon' which means to miss the
mark. In the West the Christian idea of sin seems to be the predominant
meaning, and it has many connotations that seem to go quite beyond
simply missing the mark. But usage that is common here has many
judgmental implications that really serve no useful purpose if your aim
is to point people in the direction of enlightenment.

If you 'look' at the process of transcendental meditation, what you
experience is you are handing off the process and letting nature take it
over. That is it. If we are able to culture our system to do that under
all circumstances, we are home free. It is the personal sense of will
that interferes with this process in daily life.

   'Transcendental meditation' as a principle can be practiced many ways;
Maharishi seems to have discovered a compact technique that encapsulates
this principle; it is quite a stroke of genius. There are those that
   have come by the principle in other ways that have been successful;
whatever works to imbue this principle in our lives is more powerful
than simply following a rigid formula in regard to what truth might be.

You seem to be starting to sound like the vengeful force that permeates
the Torah and other books that Christians call the Old Testament.
Difference of opinion is advantageous in religion. The several sects
perform the office of a Censor morum over each other. Is uniformity
attainable? Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the
introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined,
imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch towards uniformity. What

Fine, but there are 3 parts to becomming a Christian: 1. repentance and by
Atonement 2. Sin no more (Buck is working on a list of sins that you can refer
to) 3. Accepting Jesus as your Savior, which takes care of the Atonement part
since His Sacrifice is a once and for all Substitute for our
transgressions(unless one is Catholic in which case the Atonement is an
ongoing process of guilt-ridden works and observances which ultimately may
qualify you for Purgatory and ultimately the Paradisethe Kingdom.
...
However, if you take the Catholic route, the Atonement part would also include
works and the Sacraments. (Luther of course differed on this part).
...
In any event, I have yet to see the I accept Jesus as my Personal Savior
part. This should be accompanied by plenty of Tebowing and writing Jn 3-16 on
your tee shirts for all to see.
...
On another topic, it may interest you to know that Concrete, WA (NW Washington

do I have to deny what is the truth? There must be 300 persons out there in
the world who can present evidence of what happened in those seminars. But
you can't, because you did not go through the experience. Sooner or later
someone will speak up about their recollection of those days—and as soon as
they do, I will immediately recognize they have provided the requisite
evidence of the truthfulness of their testimony. This is a striptease you are

and then you will have nothing to say in this regard, because I will remember
this person. And they will thus be accorded the authority that you can never

Believe me, Vaj, anyone who was there would never write in the way you have

And finally: I have repudiated the entire principle and context at the basis
of those seminars. I have renounced my enlightenment. And I have gone a very
long ways towards atoning for whatever I did during those ten years for which
I must held accountable. My personal culpability.

I must suppose you cannot help yourself in this, Vaj. But how I wish you
would do something to dispel this perfect impression you give of the
unbelievability of all of your claims: about TM, about Maharishi, and about
 myself.

When it comes to TM, Maharishi, and those seminars, second-hand knowledge
just will not do. *You had to be there*. No one who went through that
experience could, even if they tried, produce the lack of credibility that
you do in everything you say about me, about TM, and about Maharishi.

But this is especially true of the seminars, because the experience there was
unforgettable. Ineffaceable. A particular and concrete memory you have, Vaj:
I would wish so much for you to give this to me. But alas, you cannot, and
until you do I will just have to keep calling you out for what you are doing
 here at FFL.

Still, I appreciated those two posts of yours awhile back.

My 2c: Crazy Wisdom is an oxymoron. Craziness is what is is, nothing deep
about it (Cf. the life of Adi Da, the consummate embodiment of self-styled
Crazy Wisdom).
..
People simply have preferences, crazy or otherwise. I use a game-theory
approach to analyzing such behavior - in terms of a goal, there are
costs/benefits. For example: Somebody says, I would like to have a robust
sexual life with 16,000 Gopis. Fine, this is a legitimate preference but by
no means indicative of Enlightenment, since many Traditionally recognized
Enlightened people had no sex life at all that we know of.
...
Next step in game theory is to accept the statement on the surface, then go on
from there in term of fulfilling the goal. If the reply is...the Gopis
haven't shown up yet and besides, I'm married; then I'd say the original
statement is socially maladaptive, and thus crazy.

Your language is inappropriately obscene and harsh for a public board
like this Ravi. I object to your abusive language here.

Ravi Chivukula does not know me personally and has no inside
information about me.

 Curtis,

A few more clues - Don't checkout FB page so you retards pop up on
friends suggestions, stop watching my videos from Virginia and
Netherlands. Stop this perverse masochistic obsession on me.

You are my Rakshasaa, my metaphorical demon of deception. Consider
yourself lucky that I even deemed to spend this much time an old dumb
 pervert like you.

STOP your malicious, evil campaign here.

 Love,
 Ravi

Ravi you are once again going too far with your malicious intent
here. Outing someone's full real name when they are using a handle
is uncool and may have serious repercussions for their lives.

Part of the freedom of expression here is supported by people's
choice to decide if they want their POV here linked to the
  searchable internet.

Your expressed intent to humiliate someone here is also out of
  line.

I consider this post to be beyond the pail of interactions here. I
have been contacted by people offlist who you have cowered with
  your aggressive malicious campaign.

I speak for them and for myself in telling you that this behavior
  is not acceptable here.
