Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: A movie so bad.....
Cage is one of those actors, like Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington who either have a very expensive drug and or alcohol habit, or indulge in expensive hobbies, or have numerous ex wives who demand millions in alimony and child support or else they just get bored easily if they are not working in their chosen field. These guys make movie after movie about an ex CIA or other clandestine operative who gets worked up about something, usually under provocation by bad guys, who then does horrid things to said bad guys that everyone would judge him for if he were a bad guy, but its ok cuz he's the good guy and they are bad. Lots of car chase scenes, lots of shooting and fighting and a boatload of folks get killed. And star always survives to make another lame movie another day. Tremendously popular but only amongst the rabid Christians. Left Behind is a series of 16 best-selling novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, dealing with Christian dispensationalist End Times.Total sales for the series have surpassed 65 million copies As to the movie: Yea verily, like unto a plague of locusts, Left Behind hath begat a further scourge of devastation upon Nicolas Cage's once-proud filmography. In a review for Entertainment Weekly, film critic Lindsey Bahr writes, At best, Left Behind is shoddily made sensationalist propaganda—with atrocious acting—that barely registers as entertainment. At worst, it's profoundly moronic. Audiences, Christian or not, deserve better, and it's hard to imagine that the ham-fisted revelations in this schlock could serve any higher purpose. Paul Chambers from MovieChambers.com begins his scathing review with, There are millions of Christians with average or above-average intelligence. I’d like to think that I’m one of them. So, what possessed the makers of Left Behind to produce such an ignorant piece of garbage that’s easily one of the worst films of 2014, if not all-time?[30]Christian magazine Christianity Today heavily criticized the film, saying, Left Behind is not a Christian movie, whatever 'Christian Movie' could even possibly mean. In fact, most Christians within the world of the movie—whether the street-preacher lady at the airport or Rayford Steele's wife—are portrayed as insistent, crazy, delusional, or at the very least just really annoying. They want churches to book whole theaters and take their congregations, want it to be a Youth Group event, want magazines like this one to publish Discussion Questions at the end of their reviews—want the system to churn away, all the while netting them cash, without ever having to have cared a shred about actual Christian belief. They want to trick you into caring about the movie. Don't. And they would say that they tried to give the film zero stars, but our tech system won't allow it. Kind of a spoiler but then you'll want to see how. The whole scenario gets really preposterous. How popular is the left behind idea in the US really? I don't know but years ago Judy couldn't believe I had never heard of the books. A lot of people will watch the movies because they are so bad and stupid. I almost turned it off after 10 minutes but decided to see where they took it and how bad it was going to be. Have you seen HBO's take on this called The Leftovers? It was really weird and there is a second season this year. Reminds me of the New Age movie that I went to a matinee to see years ago. The auditorium was packed. Figured they all got free tickets. The film was mentioned by Turq the other day as he knew the person who produced it. I certainly did not expect a packed house for a matinee at such a film. That would have been What the Bleep Do We Know, or whatever it was called. Yeah, that was a real trip. I knew Bill Arnst, the guy who produced it, from the Rama trip. When I knew him, he was a pretty down-to-earth guy, having parlayed some money he'd earned as a child actor into a computer company that he then sold for many millions of dollars. I lost touch with him when we both walked away from the Rama trip (for different reasons but at about the same time), and found myself somewhat shocked when I found out that he'd hooked up with the Ramtha crowd. I always felt that was a serious step down from the Rama vibe. I never saw the film in a theater but had the incredibly fun experience of watching it in my living room with Robert Crumb. We laughed so hard I thought our sides would fall off. :-) From: Bhairitu noozg...@sbcglobal.net [FairfieldLife] FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com To: FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com Sent: Monday, April 27, 2015 7:00 PM Subject: Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: A movie so bad. Reminds me of the New Age movie that I went to a matinee to see years ago. The auditorium was packed. Figured they all got free tickets. The film was mentioned by Turq the other day as he knew the person who produced it. I certainly did not expect a packed house for a matinee at such a film. Total sales for the series have surpassed 65 million copies As to the movie: Yea verily, like unto a plague of locusts, Left Behind hath begat a further scourge of devastation upon Nicolas Cage's once-proud filmography. So, what possessed the makers of Left Behind to produce such an ignorant piece of garbage that’s easily one of the worst films of 2014, if not all-time?[30] Christian magazine Christianity Today heavily criticized the film, saying, Left Behind is not a Christian movie, whatever 'Christian Movie' could even possibly mean. Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: A movie so bad.....
Cage sorta went from one extreme to another. He won critical acclaim for Joe which he was really good in. Also a lot of actors do these films including small one just to keep their union benefits up. On 04/27/2015 09:52 AM, Michael Jackson mjackso...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife] wrote: Cage is one of those actors, like Liam Neeson and Denzel Washington who either have a very expensive drug and or alcohol habit, or indulge in expensive hobbies, or have numerous ex wives who demand millions in alimony and child support or else they just get bored easily if they are not working in their chosen field. *From:* salyavin808 no_re...@yahoogroups.com *To:* FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com *Sent:* Monday, April 27, 2015 12:39 PM *Subject:* Re: [FairfieldLife] Re: A movie so bad. ---In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, noozguru@... wrote : And I forgot to mention the product placement! No, as I say we don't get any of these sort of ultra-Christian beliefs over here, it's still a bit more like tea on the vicarage lawn. The most radical any church here gets is a guitar and a bit of clapping in the service. My next door neighbour belongs to one but he doesn't proselytise so I don't know what his beliefs are, which is a shame as I'd like to know the current state of English dreaming. LOL, he asked me what I did for a living when we first met and I told him I worked for the TMO and he looked like I'd slapped him he was so shocked but he didn't say anything, which is a shame as I'm as up for philosophocal debate with him as I was with the TM teachers. They're there for the money too Do you get to see heaven and hell at any point. Does Nic get saved? No heaven are hell are harmed in this film. And Cloe saves the day! Talk about Christians not understanding analogs, they're far worse than any Hindus. It really deserves a Mystery Science Theater 3000 treatment. So if you need a good laugh here's the trailer: Wow, how much bad acting can you pack into a single trailer? This left behind thing is a real cultural phenomenon over there isn't it? Bizarre as we never hear of it over here. I wouldn't even be surprised if this doesn't even go on release here. Place some or most of the blame on the director. Cage has done some decent things in the past. He might have been desperate for a job since he owed the IRS millions.
