db8, MMY apparently got this story about the devatas from guru dev and his parampara. Personally, I have not read this anecdote in the Srimad Bhagavatam. She told him this was a fraction of her bliss, and his physiology would be destroyed, if his body and heart were not perfectly pure. There is a similar story in Yogananda's book, as I recall. MMY actually urged scientists to do scientific tests to prove the availability of this "bliss" chemical in advanced meditators. DM, A few years, when MMY was still alive, I read a page in a book that said, bliss can be found as a chemical form in a highly evolved individual. MMY recommended that this chemical will be found in the stomach or gut of such an individual. He also stated that the devatas feed off this bliss. Thus, there were speculations that the devatas may live in our stomachs to feed off the bliss that are generated by humans. So, we can speculate too if the devatas make us succeed in life, despite our own personal failures.
