Re: [FairfieldLife] Smart Meters

2019-10-07 Thread Bhairitu noozgur...@gmail.com [FairfieldLife]
I've had a smart meter at the house for several years.  It was installed
below the old meter at the side of the garage well away from living
areas.  But it probably puts out less emissions than my wifi router. The
good part of it is you get a daily graph of use in the monthly bill.  I
do well particularly in summer because I have reflective shingles so AC
use is almost non existent. I actually had a bill last year indicating
"no payment due".  The shingles keep the house cool in the summer but
not so good in the winter when they also keep the house cool. :-)

However the utility company itself, PG&E,  is in deep trouble. I think
because it is too big for anyone to effectively manage and covers too
many different areas that should have their own utility. The company was
even convicted of causing deaths of some residents on the SF Peninsula
from a gas explosion.  They have also been implicated as the cause of
the Camp wildfire last year in California that made it as smoggy here as
Beijing.

[FairfieldLife] Smart Meters

2019-10-07 Thread dbra...@yahoo.com [FairfieldLife]
Smart meters seems to be an issue for those who live in Fairfield and
elsewhere. Our energy company, Duke Energy, installed one on our house a few
months ago. I can't say I have noticed any difference, although it has to go
through three walls to get to our bedroom. Duke uses a "two-way" reading
system, rather than a "one-way" or continuous broadcast system.
 From Duke Energy:
The new meters automatically transmit readings via radio frequency, and they
will largely eliminate the need for meter readers, Walls said.

Duke notes the "radio frequency emissions from smart meters are significantly
lower than limits set by the Federal Communications Commission. In fact, the
emissions produced by other household devices, such as cellphones, baby
monitors and microwaves, are considerably higher than the small amount of RF
emissions produced by smart meters."

See the attached article for more info and comparisons to other electronic
devices. Especially note the info under the heading "Addressing Health
Concerns".

If your community has a different type of smart meter or you have concerns,
this company makes a protective device that has a lot of very positive reviews.
From my brief research, I'm guessing that the numerous people who have found
relief with this product had the Continuous Broadcast type of smart meter.

Have smart meters been installed in Fairfield yet?

[FairfieldLife] Smart meters are needed for testing [1 Attachment]

2019-05-18 Thread Dick Mays dickm...@lisco.com [FairfieldLife]
Forwarded from FairfieldSafeMeters at FairfieldSafeMeters

Smart meters are needed for testing
In the ongoing effort to ensure that any customer of Alliant who chooses to
retain their analog or digital meter or, perhaps, to have the option to change
their digital meter to an analog meter, Jay Marcus, Attorney is seeking to
contact Alliant customers who HAVE NOT opted out and are currently using a
smart meter.

We are specifically looking for smart meter customers who live in each of the
Fairfield communities, including Utopia Park and Maharishi Vedic City. However,
any Alliant customer in Iowa would be helpful.

How you can be of help
We are hoping to contact, or have you contact, your friends, neighbors or work
associates with smart meters to ask if they would be willing to allow for the
testing of their meters to determine the operation of their unit. If they
choose to participate, we will ask them to sign a simple consent form.. The
testing, depending on the orders of the Iowa Utilities Board, will be sometime
in the next few months, and will not cost them anything. No one will enter
their home, they do not have to be at home or do anything to allow for the
testing. The testing will take but a few minutes so it is possible that they
may not know that the test was actually done, and the results of each
individual test will not be identified as coming from their meter or be made
public in any way.

The goal of this test is not to convince anyone to opt out
The purpose of the test is NOT to convince the customer that they should opt
out, but it is believed that the customer can ask for the results of the test
if they want. By participating in this test they are not acting in support of
Fairfield Safe Meters or Alliant, neither will they become involved in the
hearings or activities of the Iowa Utility Board.

If you know of anyone you can approach regarding the testing, please let us
know the name of the person or persons that you intend to contact. If you want
us to reach out to the person or persons, please respond to this message by
email with their name, address, and telephone number.

Your help is needed right away
We'd appreciate as many positive responses to this email as possible by 5:00
p.m. on Monday, May 20, 2019. Thank you for your support!
