That's what I did (can't be too careful - with that process, I can guarantee that not a single of your pixels was changed, just the missing ones added), I uploaded the result here (I already ran optipng -o7 on it): http://repo.calcforge.org/f10/solar-normalish-fixed.tar Can I commit and build this into solar-backgrounds? Martin Sourada martin.sourada at gmail.com writes: I've just built an updated Solar Backgrounds Package with many fixes provided by Mo, and more resolutions/ratios [1]. As per request from both gnome and kde folks the package has been split into solar-backgrounds (for Desktop Live Spin) solar-backgrounds-common (for KDE) and solar-backgrounds-extras (containing everything not included in the previous two). Since we are in freeze already (sorry for it, we could not make it in time) and the packages are rather big, I'd like you to test it first before I request a freeze break. You can d/l from koji [1]. Please report any problems, preferably on fedora-art-list or by mail to me directly. Thanks a lot! I updated solar-kde-theme to use the new images. There is, however, a problem: the 1280x1024 image is only 1280x1014, any chance this can be fixed? (It leads to bad transitions between KSplash and Plasma because they use different scaling methods.) I noticed the normalish.dual images have the correct height, and the rectangle at offset (1280,10) (i.e. the lower right corner, from (1280,10) to (2559,1023)) is identical to the 1280x1014 images (the GIMP difference tool created an all black portion when I overlay them and the fill tool confirms it's really all black). Is that observation correct? If so, I can fix the 1280x1024 images by simply taking the right half (from (1280,0) to (2559,1023)) of the normalish.dual images (or, equivalently, copying (1280,0) to (2559,9) (the 1280x10 pixel rectangle at the top right) from the normalish.dual images and adding that on top of the 1280x1024 images). Any objections to me doing that? (There's no scaling involved, and if I'm not mistaken the result will be pixel-identical to the current images and add the missing 10 pixels of height.) Self-introduction
I just applied for membership for the art group in FAS. My existing contributions to Fedora artwork: * I helped with fedoraflyinghigh-kdm-theme (the KDM port of the equivalent GDM theme) and did fedorainfinity-kdm-theme (KDM port of fedorainfinity-gdm-theme) essentially all alone. * I also did some Bluecurve stuff: - symlinks for bluecurve-icon-theme for KDE 4 - the Quarticurve stuff (qt4-theme-quarticurve, quarticurve-kwin-theme) My plans for the future are to continue helping out with getting themes adapted/ported to KDE and with KDM theme design (as KDM now needs its own themes, we no longer have GDM themes to just port). Re: Anyone working on Waves GDM/KDM theme?
Luya Tshimbalanga luya_tfz at thefinalzone.com writes: What are the major change? It would be nice if you listed the features changed from these desktop managers. I can't say much about GDM, other than that it was completely rewritten and appears to not use themes at all. For KDM, the documentation for creating themes for the KDE 4 version is here: http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kdebase-workspace/kdm/kdm-themes.html and the referenced DTD is there: http://websvn.kde.org/branches/KDE/4.0/kdebase/workspace/kdm/kfrontend/themes/greeter.dtd?revision=757128view=markup Unfortunately, there was essentially no documentation at all for the KDE 3 KDM themes, so it isn't easy to see what changed from that documentation. The way I ported the F7 and F8 GDM themes to KDM was that I looked at other themes and copied what they used. Anyone working on Waves GDM/KDM theme?
Is anyone working on a display manager theme for Waves yet? For F7 and F8, we (KDE SIG) have ported the GDM themes to KDM, but I don't see any GDM theme on the F9 final artwork page yet. To anyone working on this: be warned that both GDM and KDM changed significantly between F8 and F9, so please don't design against the F8 versions. Oh great, KDE 4 did some incompatible KDM theme syntax changes in part to be more compatible with GDM themes (see e.g. http://websvn.kde.org/?view=revrevision=743596 ), and now GDM gets rewritten throwing their theme syntax out entirely. :-( Don't you love inter-project communication? :-( KDE SIG probably would have to do its own thing. Fun... Something tells me we'll have to ship F9 with the default upstream circles theme... (We can't even use the old Fedora themes without porting them because KDE 4 KDM doesn't accept KDE 3 KDM themes.) Re: Form widgets on fpo website
Rogue roguexz at gmail.com writes: Jakub, you are comparing how the widget looks in Firefox 3 alone. What about other browsers? What if the native widgets in those other browsers look terrible? The main 2 browser engines in Fedora are: * Gecko - for everything using this, the widgets will look just as in Firefox 3 (from Fedora 9 on), * KHTML (Konqueror) - ignores the widget styling entirely, so it's actually already displaying a native widget, so what browsers exactly are you worrying about? Also, I don't think the native widget can look worse than a simple rectangle. ;-) Kevin Kofler ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Martin Sourada martin.sourada at seznam.cz writes: Alas, the nodoka-kwin-theme is still empty, what's the progress on it Laith? I believe the main issue is that we don't have a KDE 4 port of DeKorator yet, and Rawhide is already using KDE 4 KWin, so we can't use the theme in Rawhide yet. (WM decorations are only useful for the version of KWin we're actually shipping.) Any chances anyone volunteers to make a theme for KDE 4? I do not use KDE, nor know its theming abilities, so if you want Nodoka for KDE, someone must make it... Ideally we'd also have a Qt 3 version, because not all the KDE apps are going to be ported to KDE 4 in time for Fedora 9. (Unlike the KWin case, for widgets, we're shipping both Qt 3 and 4, so we can use, and ideally should have, styles for both.) In the KDE SIG discussions about that, I suggested starting from Polyester: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/Polyester?content=27968 which has both KDE 3 and KDE 4 versions available and which already looks close to Nodoka (at least to the version in F8). WARNING: Whoever works on this will have to do changes to the theme source code, not just configuration files and images, so if C++/Qt scares you, this is probably not for you. ;-) Kevin Kofler ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list
