Re: F9 Launch Banner
On 2008-05-07 12:09:14 AM, Máirín Duffy wrote: So it looks like we need a banner for the front page of FPO for the F9 launch. I think Ricky and tw2113 were working taking screenshots of F9 for the website. Do you guys have those screenshots publicly accessible somewhere? I'm thinking we could use them for the banner. Our tagline is: Fedora 9. Make Waves. A couple of ideas for the main banner layout to correspond with this: 1) Have three screenshots that are all shined-up and blinged-up in three portal things with small, glowing pieces of sulphur surrounding them. Think three bottles of cold brew in ice, except the gleaming sulphur crystals are the ice and the screenshots are the brew. :) Pro: blingy, easy to do quickly. Con: Tagline is about waves, and this emphasizes sulphur. 2) Have three screenshots emerge from the water in a dark cave-like environment (ala http://www.simplenomics.com/wp-images/beowulf'sangelinajolie.jpg). The edges of the screenshots are glowing and cast bright reflections in the rippled water. Pro: fits with tagline, blingy. Con: Might take longer to do. If we keep the banner text-free (no translations to worry about) then we can just have the byline run along top the graphic in plaintext. Good idea :-) We should have screenshots in the git repo and on the test website at http://publictest10.fedoraproject.org/. If you can generate the image files, then feel free to send a tarball or put it up somewhere. Otherwise, if you email your translated SVG to list (don't forget that we'll need 1 day and n days), then somebody should know how to generate them. If anybody generates counter images, the preferred filename is: fedora10-countdown-banner-$n.$lang.png Where $n is 1, 2, ..., 21 and $lang is the two-letter language code. The string in the message is exactly the same as the one for Fedora 9 and therefore the translations can be re-used without a problem. I'm not sure what you mean - we used http://fedoraproject.org/static/images/banners/f9release.png for Fedora 9, if I remember correctly. Also, we have a bunch of new languages added this time around, so they would have to get this translated as well. With one day left, it's probably not enough time to expect that to be fully translated by Tuesday. Correct I'm about to send the an email to fedora-trans-list about getting more translations for the countdown. I already asked opinions for translations to the Italian team. At first glance, it could be an issue to keep the coming and arriving concepts distinct after translation. Is the text set in stone or can we tune it to ease translations? It's up to the translator's best judgement to make it sound natural in their language. If it's necessary to change the words a bit, feel free.
