No sound after upgrade from 11 to 12
I have an HP DV6-1030ca, I could get sound with an alsa fix in F11 by creating an /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf with 'options snd-hda-intel model=hp-m4 enable_msi=1' but his no longer works in 12, I have tried every incantation I could scour on the net for some time. Tiff files frmo xsane arent usable in windows
I scanned a sh!tload of docs and saved as tiff files, then scp'ed these across the wire to another linux box that has a windows user who needs these images. internet connection sharing
In earlier releases of Fedora, I recall this being possible but not w/o some extra work. In F12, is it actually as simple as the Redhat Magazine video suggests? Does simply creating a wireless connection enable all required elements such as forwarding, dhcp etc for sharing a wired connection out a wireless connection in ad-hoc mode? When I create a connection set as "Shared to other computers" dnsmasq isn't started for example. Searching the net yields a couple tutorials on this, but none dive nito any detail... Better yet, can I interrupt grub and pass a "3" to prevent the disc from even loading X? I just gave it another look, but with so much functionality removed tied with the fact it never was stable for me even in 1.x, I didn't have hope. The first shoutcast stream I choose it crashed immediately:) Songbird has worked flawless for me so far, the only thing it lacks is an intelligent way to update changed tags/files, but this is coming! It's also got an impressive set of features. I don't think the ipod issue is related to it, as gtkpod also exhibits the same behavior. It's never crashed for me yet, whereas Amarok 1.x/2.x would crash constantly with shoutcast which is a major issue for me. Good question, and I don't know but I wonder if helping it find it might work. Figure out what host# that interface is on, then issue this: #echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host{n}/scan Run an #fdisk -l after, I wonder if it appears then? I think you found the error in my way! I was running while I did it. I'll keep this email and refer back to it next time. Out of curiosity now, I also deleted my xorg.conf but if I leave inittab set to 5 it hangs? If I boot to 3, then init 5, it works fine? It also didn't recreate the xorg.conf file? Phil, This is exactly what I did, I moved the file out altogether. Should I have simply removed the line in it? It recreated the file next boot with the old mac address only to still cause issues! I read something about MAKEDEV cache, could that be the culprit? Udev net issues
In trying to swap a motherboard for the exact same type I kept having issues with the NIC not being started (network manager was disabled). I finally found 70-persistent-net.rules under udev had the mac address of the old nic as eth0 so I moved this file out and rebooted only to see it was recreated as expected but had the old mac address? I finally edited the mac address and that worked. Where in the world would it have gotten the old mac from? RE: Repair FC9 for new hardware

I *may* have had some Livna ATI drivers, but that same card is back in actually! I forgot I moved it out from the old mobo with unused IG into a new mobo also with some other Intel IG but am still using the ATI addin card. Was it Livna who used sloppy rpm packaging making rpm queries hard? I figure I could just do a rpm –qa --queryformat “%{NAME}-%{VERSION}-%{RELEASE}-%{PACKAGER}\n” or something? What's an easy string for catching all Livna RPM's to later sort through? I did run system-config-display which ended up crashing the box after I applied the settings. Looking on the web I think I should have ran system-config-display --reconfigure maybe? Repair FC9 for new hardware
I had to replace a MOBO with a new graphics card and NIC. The storage controller is the same and the machine boots to run level 3 fine but its confused about the NIC (I know it works, I had a fresh install working out of the box) and X crashes the machine if I go to run level 5. I don't have the time to re-install (all the data is backed up though) so what's my best approach for reconfiguring this box until I can cleanly set it up again? I have never done this sort of thing before so I am a bit in the un-know :) FWIW, Network Manager is not installed, the module for the NIC is loaded, and the mac for the ifcfg-eth0 was changed to point to the new NIC. I also need to adjust the alias in modprobe.conf (forgot that, and not at wkst now) which may only leave me with reconfiguring X?
