2009/5/11 Paul W. Frields sticks...@gmail.com Thanks for those changes, Paolo! You're welcome! :-) Are there any other issues with these banners that need to be looked at? 2009/5/10 Ian Weller i...@ianweller.org The gradient in the logo is fine. The shadows on the logo and the '11' are way too dark. Re: Fedora release banners
2009/5/10 Paul W. Frields sticks...@gmail.com Actually, Ian's comments notwithstanding, the gradient on the logo should be removed. Where it's not necessary, we shouldn't arbitrarily change the logo appearance, since that violates the logo usage guidelines. Also, it looks like there is an update to the Plymouth boot loader that uses the charging up idea that was presented and favorably received here. Ray Strode labored to get this plugin included as default, so if that's going to be the case we should have that panel represented instead of the generic spinfinity Plymouth screen. I visited https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=499643 to try out the plugin. Paolo, can you do one more revision with those two changes? No problem. Hi there, I confirm my intention about creation of F11 countdown and release banner. Initially I've planned to make and propose the countdown banner to the community around April 20th, in order to wait that theming process is mostly completed. If you want that the countdown banner is available before this date, I'll work on it soon as possible. I've read on fedora planet about a F11 countdown banner, but I've noticed that it don't respect resolution requirements (200 x 100) for the home page. If the author can read this mailing list, please correct the resolution if you want to propose the banner to the community. 2009/4/2 Paul W. Re: F11 wallpaper mockup proposal
I think is a bit too simplistic to go with a photo converted to grayscale and then colorized blue. Also, it was discussed a few weeks ago that we don't want to go with jut a ruin and send the wrong message about Fedora being a ruin. If we are going to use some ruins, they have to be accompanied by other elements, like growing vegetation and such. The license is fine (PD), but IMO the photo is not that great: it has very aggressive JPEG compression resulting in a very noisy background and the framing do not allow for wide screen cropping (we would have to cut from important parts of the image). I have a technical comment about the first banner: there is something wrong with the rounded corners, due to the embedded bitmap. First of all, thanks for your feedback about my little video try. * I think pointing out Solar when you use a sun for the backdrop is probably unnecessary -- it's actually cooler to let the sun speak for itself as our theme. * The music is licensed as CC BY-NC-SA, which isn't appropriate for Fedora. Remixers need to be free to use the material commercially if they want. (Besides, I'd look for something where the performance doesn't have so many wrong notes and clams.) I'll correct issues about titolation text as soon as possible, and I'll search a song with a correct license ;-) I've had to use Kino because unfortunately It seems to be the only almost-free software for video editing. Other option is Pitivi, but much base functions for video editing are not included. Well, if we don't allow software from rpmfusion then we are SOL, no videos beyond screen captures made with Istanbul or recorded from webcam with Cheese. To the actual situation the most advanced ready-to-use software is Kino, but I know the main branch of Kino is no longer developed (only bug fixes, last main version was released on March 12th, 2007). Kino uses certain codecs so can't be included in Fedora. It is usually installed from the just-launched repository that sould not be named :p Kino contains some link to proprietary codecs, apart these links I think that Kino could be considered a completely opensource software. The last problem: it's improbable to find video-files in a native free format. Much devices records data in a proprietary format, then is necessary a tool from an external repository that uses proprietary codec for converting the video in a free format. The question is: it's acceptable the use of Kino (actually from third-party repository) for video editing in order to produce video files for Fedora Project? -- Paolo Leoni ~ http://pleoni.altervista.org GPG fingerprint: DAD1 6419 D42B 0B1C D9E1 A9CB 4587 4812 17F7 F764 ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Re: F10 Theme proposals
Nicu Buculei ha scritto: That won't work as a theme is more than a wallpaper. We can include a few wallpapers and let the user change them, but can't do that for Anaconda, GRUB, Syslinux, GDM, DE splashes and so. You probably know Martin started a Wallpaper Extras gallery, so they could so in there (it is till time to propose that package for F10?) I think that the propose of to include all themes would be good because all themes are really greats, but as told by Nicu, for several reasons there's need for a unique, default theme. So I think it's necessary to make a choice. It wouldn't be possible to use the themes that won't be selected for the next distributions? -- Paolo Leoni ~ http://pleoni.altervista.org GPG fingerprint: DAD1 6419 D42B 0B1C D9E1 A9CB 4587 4812 17F7 F764 ___ Fedora-art-list mailing list Fedora-art-list@redhat.com http://www.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-art-list

Not sure that is a very good metaphor. I understand your doubts, I'll search a new metaphor and new ideas. Hi from Paolo
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Hi Fedora Art Group, my name's Paolo Leoni (username: Deepsky), I'm from Italy and I would want to contribute to the growth of Fedora. I'm studying Physics at University, apart Physics, my interests are Computer Science, Astronomy,Cinema and Music (I play the guitar). Moreover, I practice Aikido martial art at the Sakura Aikido dojo (http://sakuraaikido.altervista.org), where I'm the webmaster of the site. At the moment I'm subscibed to the Fedora Artwork group. My knowledges are pretty limited about design, I've basic knowledges about Inkscape and medium knowledges about GIMP, but in case of need, I'll learn the necessary things. I can do basic translations from Italian to English and vice-versa. My very first contribution was the Italian translation of Fedora 9 countdown. I propose to you a little promotional poster/image about Fedora, I've used GIMP in order to modify the photo and Inkscape to add some text. You can find it here: http://pleoni.altervista.org/fedora_cat_flyer_deepsky.png http://pleoni.altervista.org/fedora_cat_flyer_deepsky.svg Please remember that it's my first production :-) You can find my others contributes in the Fedora wallpapers collecting.
