Re: FAD and some other stuff

2010-01-01 Thread wonderer
Hy,

... I think that what we actually need right now is a hard number for
a budget, so we know what in the way of resources we have, and whether
we should be pouring those resources into getting everyone together,
or into making this into a you can participate remotely! FAD, etc.
Hopefully we could get all together for once for our first FAD.

Let's see if we can nail that - and the final details - down...
possibly not at the next meeting this coming Tuesday (although we can
probably get a hard number for budget by then), but by the end of the
 next one on Jan 12th.
I added some lines to the agenda at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_FAD_2010 under sideline.

I thought that we could take the opportunity to take some Fedora
Images for the hopefully upcoming photobook and for a kind of
press/photo archive startup. I think there will be some photographers
beside me among us. The archive will also ease our later work for later,
because many texts, photos, Event-Coverage, etc. will show us the way...
The archive thing should be implemented to the upcoming Zikula CMS, but
we could do some research and how that could be in.

Re: Let's meet! (Marketing FAD 2010)

2009-12-20 Thread wonderer
hy there,
*Red Hat office in either Boston, MA or Raleigh, NC as we have attendees in
the area (Mel for Boston, Max and Kara for Raleigh) and we have the benefit
 of
having a Red Hat office, which would probably get us easy conference space.

The PRO on that would be that we have a REALLY good Infrastructure.
But I had the experience from meetings here around where participants
are near their workplace that can be contraproductive (e.g. hold on, I
had a call from ... I need to to do that ... I grab something from the
office, wait)...

All other places sounds good for me ... I did not know any of them ;-)
When: Mel suggested a March time frame, which is pretty broad. My high school
has spring break from Sat 13 to Sun 21, so any days in those time frames work
best for me and (iirc) Robyn, as her children have those days off, too. Some
 questions: How many days?
I throw some thoughts in: I think we did not meet together in THAT
particular group, meaning we had never before a MKTG FAD. We encounter
each other at FADs, Events, Office time, etc. but THAT will be the first
MKTG FAD where marketing stuff came up on the table and get things done.
I think we will become acquainted with each other, know how things work
in one or another part of the world, put together best practices, etc.
Therefore it will NEVER be enough time to do all things. But I think if
it will be possible 3-4 working days withing 1,5 days of planed leisure
plus some spare time would be a good choice.
Do we want a leisure day?
Hopefully yes ;-)
Of course, these questions are avoiding the large and awesome topic, of
 what
we want to do at this event? Mel said we wanted deliverables after the event,
what deliverables do we want? Any other goals?

Put my in the wiki...

hope 2 c u soon :-)

Marketing FAD 2010 - First Brainstorm

2009-12-08 Thread wonderer
Hy there,

short after todays marketing meeting some came with an the idea that are
crawling around some heads for quite a while: We want to have a
Marketing FAD!

Theme: Fedora Marketing - What is, what will be
* build up our new marketing plan for F13 / F14 and work on that
* work and grow our Marketing Team
* have fun

Here are some questions we start to work on:
* Where do we want to have it (location)?
* when (date) ?
* who (attendees) ?
* work schedule (plan) ?
A first throw-in I would say how about hawaii, first march week 2010,
some hotel around.
For all other things around we have also a wikipage [1] for filling with
suggestions and facts.
Please have a look, add your name to the list if you are interressted or
already say YES, I want to be there because
we must know your preferences to plan further on.

Re: Video: 5 Fun Things in Fedora 12

2009-11-30 Thread wonderer
Hy,

I just posted a 15 minute 'fun things in Fedora' video.
Great!

I ask myself how long did it take overall to make it writting the
transcript, recording the footage, pulling all together, etc.

Because I had the idea how about that some fedora people show the
community how they work, what does their Desktop look like, what
programms they use in EXACTLY the way I saw in your video ;-)
 It's on YouTube
 - I tried blip.tv and the upload kept stalling, so I split the video in
to and got it up on YouTube just so I could make it available more
 quickly.

Flash was for me no problem.

A new version of the Fedora Linux distribution was released today.

 By Ryan Paul

Red Hat announced today the official release of Fedora 12, the
latest version of the popular open source Linux distribution. This
release brings some impressive new features and a lot of
much-needed bugfixes. It's a strong update that puts the distro on
the right track forward and addresses the serious installation
problems that we encountered when we tested Fedora 11.

Fedora 12, codenamed Constantine, brings improved power
 management, performance optimizations, new virtualization
enhancements, and a lot of other great stuff. A lot of the
improvements will boost Fedora's suitability for netbooks. A new
Moblin spin is available that allows users to easily test Moblin's
specialized user interface on top of Fedora 12.

Fedora weekly news 193 podcast

2009-09-16 Thread wonderer
hello there,

I'm doing the fedora weekly news in german for quite a while, so I
thought it would be a good time to make a little special for all those
who better can follow such podcast in english.
It can be found at
http://blog.radiotux.de/2009/09/16/fedora-weekly-news-fwn-193/ and also
the RSS feed of radiotux itself.
What do you think about it so far? Are there interrests to have it in
german AND english (maybe we could think then about putting it into
zikula, iTunes, etc. - just some thought crawling around my brain)
Hopefully you enjoy this little experiment and maybe somebody else
have some fun making such podcasts and step in.

Also I'm searching for Interview partners (Developers, Contributors,
etc.) who want to say something and have to tell the world outside
fedora whats on the minds of the Fedora people around the world.

Re: Wiki cleanup

2009-07-12 Thread wonderer
Hy,

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_tasks: I'd like to archive
this page, in the new cycle we have simply added a current tasks
 table to https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_F12_schedule which
serves the same purpose. I have transferred all the tasks which are
still alive from the old page to the new one, but please have a look
and tweak it as you like.
Is it possible to diferentiate those a bit mor structureable? maybe let
the Frontpage Marketing_tasks and then diferentiate to past , actual
and future tasks. Also I think there will be allways ongoing tasts that
could stay on the Marketing_tasts page...

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/UserTestimonials : updating this page
was a task for the F11 cycle, but with project FooBar I propose that
we archive it and integrate user testimonials directly in a section of
the new CMS? We could have an article every month or so about a
specific Fedora usage in a company or by someone as an article.
 +1

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/LinuxUserGroups : does this page still
 make sense? Archive?
 -1 !
Linux User Groups all around the world are (in my opinion) most of the
community based structures outside Fedora itself. They have a lot of
potential and even if there are strictly a marketing issue it can be one
part of it...

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_surveys : does this page
 still make sense? Archive?
Good question ...

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Books : this clearly needs love, I
added it to the current tasks list.
 +1

 https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing_brain_dump : does this page
still make sense? It looks like we are using the mailinglist for that...
Hmm, i think sometimes a mailinglist is good, sometimes a wiki. That
depends on the task...

So, that are my 23 Cents ;-)

 Felix

To be honest, and also Henrik know, there were several people who are
interested in translating the FWN in German and have that talk in the
 German Linux Radio; ...
If somebody needs German Speaker for an interview we have in the German
Community more that one person who is able to talk ...

Sure. I am aware of that but I just gave a hint in a direction because
I already heard some of Hendrik's works and thought it could be highly
likely that he wants to do these podcasts.
Of course it would be great if other people from the German community
would step up and do something like this.

Hy,

thanks both of you. I also agree with both and thats why I not answered
so far to this.

I can also do some more Interviews for podcasts but I would prefer if
there are some other/more people who are interrested and could step into
this. If not maybe I can make some of those for the Linuxtag RadioTux
shows or produce some with others at the Linuxtag itself (I can bring
some stuff for that if needed). But until that I prefer to wait if
others step in.

NO! Please pull out this stupid crazy thoughts out of my head. Give me

Hy,

Do we have something like a theme song for fedora? Either lyrics or a
 composition?
Sounds like a good idea (after some are working on a picture book that
would be the next step I guess).

Some ideas:
* make it under the cc licence
* compose and buidl it over the Internet
* we have the 4 Foundations - lets try to implement them
** friends (eg. fedora grooves from around the world)
** freedom (eg. the theme itself...)
** features (eg. I myself have some experience in Studiomusic, maybe I
can ask some international known guys...)
** first (eg. the first Fedora-album?!)

I also think of ideas like a contest. Like http://www.openmusiccontest.org/
* musicians from all over the world could send files
* a jury of e.g. some of our developers and others select some
* Artwork from inside...

Sorry for the silly proposal (I've just read the thread): why don't

I'm not sure if the goal of those words was this, and, BTW, all the

Not silly at all Francesco -- I think it's a *GREAT* idea. We could

Re: FirstAidKit Artwork

2008-12-01 Thread wonderer
Hy,

very nice work. as an active member of the previous mentioned
Organisation I like it also this way.
Most I like the little blue cross (I imagine how it looks if someone can
make it glow lighter and darker (animated...)...
I have some litte Improvements maybe.
- The wording First Aid Kit looks in my Eyes a bit strange in that way
as pictured. The i frim First and the A frim Aid are glued together.
But the t and d seems to be also, but in the green Version there are
open. Also the Line thickness seems to be different...
- the k from kit streched over two lines, but was not glued to the
other Charakters... seems a bit inconsequent ;-)

Here are my ideas for improvement (just brainstorming ;-) ): try using
fedora-conform font; First in the first line and Aid Kit in the
second line and then Block or centered or maybe First Aid (first
line) and Kit (second line); don't glue Characters together...

  Hi,

Cool icon, but one thing to keep in mind: The Red Cross owns the
trademark to the red cross icon/logo. They have sent cease and
 desist
orders to game companies that use it as an icon for health re-ups.
They do suggest using a green cross or white cross on a green
background instead as a generic alternative.

F10 Marketing

2008-11-28 Thread wonderer
Hey guys,

I was searching for some press stuff for F10, but at
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/PressReleases I did'nt found
there any texts about F10 I can use out of the box. Does anybody know
where I can find it?
For F10 I can update the presskit, but maybe someone has some main
points I can put in.

Re: the 4f

2008-11-17 Thread wonderer

I was was asking myself why there are no Logo and Banner changes made
with the new 4 Foundations? Are these planned for launching with F10?

It's too late now to do it for F10. I think we ought to replace
infinity/freedom/voice with the four foundations by or on F11's release
Hmm, maybe its too late for print, but maybe online there could someone
change the Banners and Texts very soon just in time. I think thats a
matter of several minutes to change the Graphics and change it online.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that since July (see also
http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-marketing-list/2008-July/msg00142.html
) it is known that there was a change from 3 to 4 Foundations... Maybe
there could by a change step by step.

Re: press kit

2008-09-18 Thread wonderer

Hy,

I had a short look at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Marketing/Press
and I miss a press-kit, a lets say press information document, a
short doc where all necessary things a journalist needs to know
about fedora is presented. Is there a need for it? If yes, I would
be glad to write one.

We had a Press Kit for the Fedora 9 release, a nice one-sheet that
we would send to press along with a Live USB.

I don't know where the source for that went (maybe pfrields has it),
but I think it would be good to update/translate it for F10.

I have the Scribus source for it here:
http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/collateral/presskit/presskit.sla

(the generated PDF is here:
http://duffy.fedorapeople.org/collateral/presskit/presskit.pdf)

Thanks so far for the press info about F9. I will put stuff out of it an
put it into.

best regards
Henrik

Re: Release Artwork Process

2008-08-06 Thread wonderer

Hy,

I had yesterday no time for IRCing, but the diagram looks very nice.
Some ideas I had on this to improve this Diagram a bit:
* did't we have a corporate Font for fedora?
* the pases/steps I found very good - not to much steps to get to a goal
* what should be Phase 2 and 3 (text)?
* Sorry, to hear about the stripes, I found them ... not so good for reading

I would vote to implement it directly into the guidelines
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Artwork#Fedora_Artwork_Guidelines

hi all!

outlining the release artwork development process...

here is my first work in progress... feel free to work on this if you
want, add content, make it look prettier... :)

Ha ha, as hard to belie as is, I have to do some research into Apple's

hello all,

I also think (as i had hopefully mentioned before) that e.g. the apple

the own adds.
Nevertheless, for those who did not know ... there was e.g. the think

Maybe the text to the video can modified, other pictures can be taken,
but I think we have some of the same intentions... I fully agree not TO
much take from the great company with the fruit Logo..., but I think
we can learn much of this add.
So, maybe we could have one Theme, one Artwork (maybe for F11) and
draw around that Posters, Wallpapers, Icons and video adds ... just my 2
Cents ;-)

The *one theme* is freedom, friends, features, first.
That are words, but no theme ;-) What do we want to buidl around it?
Should there be a thing like the BSD fish or the Budweiser frogs and
lizzard, what would we connect with the 4 foundations? What pictures
would we compare with that?
Does the first friend of Fedora features freedom around the world or
does the first freedom we have on our computers was featured from
fedora? Would we like to build a theme around the words or should the
words stand for themself? Questions I like to throw in the round ...

Another idea: paint some cute little things and name them fed ora and
fed ori and let them play some comics (I saw some great stuff from some
fedora-Artists ;-) )...

Another idea: Interview with lets say a guy on the street.
question to him: Do you have a Computer?
He (young guy): of course. I play games see WoW or another game do my
homework he is typing and googeling and chating ICQ2000 whatever and
some music see emule!

** (backgroundmusic: some snippets of MTV Co.) ---
Question: are you Ok with that?
He (thinking): you see violent Pictures of he while he crashes his
computers. It does not work, Pics from Windows has occured an error
Bluescreen, etc. ... on emule show some FBI guy

** backgroundmusic: Techno, Hardrock, etc.
--- cut fade-in ---
Fedora Logo
freedom | friends | features | first (smoothly fade in, no music)
--- cut (blackout) ---
same situationn (Interviewer on street)
Interviewer want to ask a bunch of people, they are laughing, have
penguin shirts or so

same question
One of the guy: shure I have a computer. I use it for games show a big
screen with start of a Linux game ... homework and study things
googeling, wikipedia, etc. ... chatting show pidgin or so and music
show mediaplayer playing some cc music

Question: are you Ok with that?
the guys (look at each other): yes.

new Artwork ideas for FC10

2008-07-14 Thread wonderer

Hy together,

in order to a small discussion of the upcoming FC10 Artwork on the
marketing-list I had some ideas I would like to give here for further
comments.
I has the thought if we can't think a bit bigger for FC10?! This is the
10th Version of an Operatingsystem. 10th Anniversery. We have a one and
THEN the null behind. We have decades going forward...

So just some thoughts/ideas we could have:
- collect some/all the (unpublished) Artwork of the years and put them
together or remaster some of the old ideas, made them retro or so.
- ask VIP's (let your imagination flow who this could be...) make some
Artwork. I don't mean that as a blow against the art-team or so (Nicu
Buculei mentioned such a thing) but it CAN be a way to have lets say
unusual stuff in here.
an (maybe bad) example: let Stallman scribble the fedora Logo and work
that out or ask people like Doc Baumann, Linus Torwalds, Mark
Shuttleworth or such guys.
maybe we can work out lets say 12 different VIP Pics or scribbles for
that.

- put in some photos as backgrounds, maybe from big events or meetings...
there are few Pictures as backgrounds, but many people have some.
There are many ways to put in lets say faces of fedora in a smooth way...
- best of artwork-artwork: any Artworker give one bit of his work to
another and let him or her work that out, let your minds flow,
cooperate, work out things together, etc.

- other ideas...

So, any comments on my ideas?

Quite negative the comments there (hopefully someone will have a bit

horrible set of themes. My eyes hurt just looking at them. ) or even
just weird (fedora core 4 was nice) but I guess there is some truth

Re: Article: Concept Art for Fedora 10

2008-07-14 Thread wonderer

Hy,

my first idea was also we live in 2008 and not 19xx but thats
another thing ;-)

Care to elaborate a bit around that?
Ok. We are here on the Marketing list. If I think of Marketing I have
ONE great picture, One theme, one of the main Wallpapers, one Logo
brand, one main-Theme i can use for a Campain.
E.G.: see sony (
http://www.gearfuse.com/sony-to-unleash-magical-mystery-product-on-monday/
).
I think with a good Artwork there can be also a good Marketing around
that. See BSD with a small Comic, music, Poster, etc. around a new Release.
If I saw the Artwork I think it looks very good, but the fedora Logo
seems often only be pasted in a ready made Wallpaper or background
someone have fond elsewhere on the Internet.
How about a Slogan to the 10th Anniversery or so? How about to put in
the Keywords we have or work the pics around these words?
Nicu, you mentioned in another Link I followed:
http://molaora.com/index.php/photos/album/6/photo/3.html i see in this
picture an Apple Add or maybe the Ubuntu-Style. This are all Campains
that are out now.

Maybe there are other ideas around that ... just my 10Cents...

But I also has the thought if we can't think a bit bigger for FC10?!
This is the 10th Version of an Operatingsystem. 10th Anniversery. We
have a one and THEN the null behind. We have decades going forward...

Or we can restart the counter, change the project name, whatever...
remember how RHL morphed into Fedora when it was to hit the magic number.
Yeah, but that was also a major structure change. I think Fedora has
only a major Release ;-)

So just some thoughts/ideas we could have:
- collect all the (unpublished) Artwork of the years and put them
together

There was a work-in-progress about that:
http://molaora.com/index.php?photos/album/8/photo/39.html but as you
can see, it was about published Artwork, not unpublished (as there may
be a reason why some graphics were not published).
... so I thought. I think every Artwork-Designer has some scribbles and
unfinished work collected over the years ;-) ... maybe it is time to get
these out of the box :-)

- ask VIP's (let your imagination flow who this could be...) make
some Artwork

I think that would be a major blow to the Art Team, like lack of
confidence in their/our skills.
I wrote that on the artwork list so far. I don't want to annoy anybody!
I only thought of to have some people like maybe Doc Baumann, Linus
Torwalds, Mark Shuttleworth, etc. to make some scribbles or so and the
Artteam can work something out.

maybe FC10 can have 12 Wallpapers or Themes or so.

- put in some photos as backgrounds, maybe from big events or
meetings...

Such photos do not make for a good wallpaper on which one would stare
all day long. And we need an assortment of additional graphics
(banners, splashes) to match.
That can be all fit together. I see no problem in that to have one or
two realistic Photo-Wallpapers or so in the set...

- other ideas...

So, any comments on my ideas?

How about talking about that on the Art list? Not all of us are
subscribed here.

I have done this yet, thanks.

But this can also be a Marketing Topic. It all fits maybe together...
