I too feel anger at owner who owned Bramble and Tidge before I had them for a
short time - both FIV+. However the fact that they trusted me and loved me for
that short time as Max did with you is an honour and they let us know we at
least made them happy and gave them a sense of safety. I think you know Max got
that from you and I'm sure Max was very grateful and would never have changed
that time no matter how short.

Ken,

Did they do a bone marrow biopsy on Max? I thought
that was the only way to know whether it was in the
bone marrow. Does anyone know if this is right?

better times, I have given them money. I don't feel i
could consider it as they supply money monthly to help
people take care of diabetic cats. Right now they are
struggling and since it is already in the marrow and
his time is already limited, and he may not survive a
transfusion, I wouldn't think it's fair. Thanks for
the tips

Ken-

I am so sorry about Max. It's wonderful how our
furballs touch us so deeply with their wordless ways
and love. And so heartbreaking when we lose them. I
hope your heart heals enough to love another kitty who
will need you one day like you loved Max. I also wish
for you financial freedom, so that you don't have to
struggle to care for your furballs and your family. I
know how hard that is. Thank you for sharing with us
Max's personality and your personal thoughts and
feelings about Max-I know all of us felt strong
emotions reading your post, as we will all be in the
same situation one day. We wish you the best and
please come back to visit from time to time.

Sending prayers your way-

Ken,
I know I haven't posted much on the list. I do readmost emails late at night and try to respond when possible.
My heart is breaking for you. Myself and others know what your going through it is never easy.
You did the rightful thing by letting him go and I'm saddened that he didn't have more time with you.
Just remember if it hadn't been for you caring and loving him he would not have had anyone. He knows you loved him just as he loved you.
The day will come when you will be together again. Meanwhile he will be greeted by our Furangels at the Rainbow Bridge. They will run offto play and chase butterflies.
You are in my thoughts and prayers!
Bless you for having him in your life!

*Cat People Needed in New Orleans!*

2005-11-08 Thread D . Ciebien

Please forward to people who might be able to help. Thanks.

11/8/05--CALLING ALL CAT PEOPLE:
 COME TO NEW ORLEANS!

IF YOU CAN HELP, RESPOND DIRECTLY TO:
Jim, Alley Cat Allies: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
OR Pilara Felgate: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 240-482-1980

UPDATE FROM THE FIELD:
Animal Rescue New Orleans has joined forces with Alley Cat Allies to
save
literally thousands of cats fending for themselves on New Orleans
streets.
Starving and dehydrated, some are feral. Others are companion animals
who
slipped through windows or blown out doors in the aftermath of
Katrina.

Animal guardians continue to contact us for help trapping their
traumatized
cats. Most are so afraid they withdraw from sight inside mud-filled
homes or
under trash piles. They will not even respond to the familiar voice
of their
own caretakers! Many of these homes are slated to be bulldozed. We
fear for

the safety of these cats... Will you help?

November 2: We rescued an emaciated cat living amid the debris of a
destroyed home. This cat was experiencing liver failure by the time we
reached her. Sadly, the cat died while in transit to the emergency
clinic...

November 7: Three dead cats. Three separate houses. Two of the cats
expired
on front porches alongside empty food and water bowls. The other was
found
on a back porch where no food/water were available. These animals did
not
succumb to hurricane or flood. They died over the past days from
STARVATION.

Animals do not have access to food scraps in the trash. New Orleans is
presently a city without its normal population, and thus without its
normal
garbage output. Puddles are scarce. It has not rained for over one
month.
Residents cannot sustain these animals because there are simply not
enough

 residents in New Orleans.

Reserve days, weeks—whatever you can—to help New Orleans animals.
JUST DO

IT. All of your questions are answered below.

VOLUNTEER NEEDS/SITUATION:
We are assembling a CAT TRAPPING TEAM to capture these animals and
reunite
them with guardians. Once that task is completed, we’ll trap other
cats in

areas marked for demolition. WE NEED:

• People experienced with cat trapping.

• People experienced with cat handling.

• People skilled in caring for cats.

Bottom line? WE NEED CAT PEOPLE NOW!

ringworm and uti

2005-11-08 Thread catatonya
Perserverence sounds about right! Poor little Emily!!! I have never (knock on wood) had to deal with it on my cats. I have always been scared to death of getting it. It's hard enough for me to clean up my day to day pissing contests! I do have to say though, that things have been better since moving.

I'm still having a problem with Sneaker sometimes peeing on the bed or sofa... but I know he has a UTI. I can't catch him to pill him 2 days in a row. I'm going to have to wait and lock him in the bathroom or something I guess. I don't know. I hate to freak him out more. The vet said it wasn't that bad I'm trying to play it by ear for a good time to do it. He is s hard to catch.

tDel Daniels [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Yup, tried the diluted bleach ... unsuccessful. I don't mind rw on myself, but sure wish I could get the kitties healed. Probably not enough cleaning. Ugh!

Poor little Emily, she was clear for 21 days while I continued to give her the oral Griseofulvin and topical lotrimin liquid where the rw had been. Day 22 - her whole forehead broke out worse than before and still a mess overa week later. Someslight healing and yet this morning a new oozing patch. It took two months+ to catch this little feral and she has lived with us13 monthsnow, very sweet and lovingyet somewhat skittish. On the whole all but one ofmy furkidstake their meds well. RW teaches us perserverance.

Have you tried diluted bleach? It may dry out your skin in that spot, but it should kill the fungus. I may have it here too, Bones has lost several round patches on fur on her neck this past month. So far, no signs of it in the others, so I'm hoping it's just where the other's bit her.

For Ringworm, double doses of Program, which is used for fleas, also works for ringworm. Medicated baths (that should be fun) and topical ointments can help too.

I think calicos do have sensitive skin. Mine does, and a friend's too. I've not heard about the natural 'life cycle'. My understanding is that the spores live for months so that the ringworm keeps coming back?

tDel Daniels [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Yes, but will little Emily still have a face left? Poor gal is a mess. This morning I used an oatmeal cat shampoo lightly on the area ... me thinks the medicated shampu might have irritated the alreadynastycondition. Although the medicated shampu did help the other cats. Both of my calicos have sensitive skin, Daisy with severe allergies. Is this common for calicos?

The thing about ringworm is.. it has a natural cycle, and isn't life-threatening, SO if you do nothing, it WILL eventually go away on it's own.
