Thank you all for your help. I have also just noticed that
casper had what it looked like a tapeworm and like two roundworms when he went
to the bathroom. maybe this is why he is so sick? he is finally eating like a
horse but he is not gaining weight like he should be, and now they want to
give him another shot that will take care of both of them. And they told me
they cant do a blood test for the Felv because he probably doesnt have enough
blood in him, but an assistant said they could do one cc but the vet ignored
what he said. so i dont know but i am definately going to be taking casper to
another vet because it does seem like they are giving him to many shots and
not really testing him besides a parasite with the feces test and they said it
was negative but now he has worms showing. Jamie

Subject: Spencer

The house call vet is coming at around three this afternoon.

Spencer continues to astound me, both with his athletic ability and the
way he expresses his love for me. He was restless all day yesterday and
last night around midnight, I gave him a quarter tablet of Valium in the
hope it would help him rest more easily. I'm not sure if it helped or not.
Sometime during the night I felt him stir and he actually jumped through
the window onto the top shelf,(we have an enclosed habitat attached to
that side of the house). I thought he just wanted to be in the night air.
No, he actually traversed the shelves down to the ground and used the
litter box! I couldn't see where he was, but decided to leave him be for a
while. I got up and worked on some accounting, intending to retrieve him
when I went back to bed. I entered my bedroom and was floored to see he
had made it back to bed all by himself! What a cat!

This morning I woke up to find him nuzzled in next to me. I stroked and
cooed to him. He was so weak that he could no longer support his
weight. He drank from the bowl of water I put under his nose and
settled back into my body. All night he'd been crawling to my hand to
place his head in it. I feel so blessed in knowing him. Such a loving
soul. Finally he told me that he wanted to curl up on my messy closet
floor. I just checked on him and when he saw me he struggled to his
feet and crawled out of the nook he was in to greet me. He drank a
little more water before I left him to tend to the other animals. I
keep telling him, it's almost over. That I'm sure he'll be back when
he's ready, that I know we will always be together joined in the love we
share for each other. I'm going to miss what I still think of as his
perfect body though.

Leslie - Here's a link to the Oreck Air Purifier on Ebay (can't remember if I sent that to you in a previous email)... You can usually get them new for right around $200 (they're pushing $500 retail).  I noticed a big difference with my Asthma kitty when I got one.  We are getting ready to purchase another as well.  As to Beatrix, I wouldn't worry about the odd sneeze here and there... are you dosing l-lysine to both Satch and Beatrix?

I'm vacuumming, but the apartment is pretty tidy, I clean with homemade cleaners (lots of soda water, vinegar, baking soda, etc), so nothing very obvious sticks out to me.  I'm going to get an air cleaner that Leslie Lawther recommended, but am hoping that I can work it into a Christmas present.  If it's an emergency, I'll spring for it now, but am hoping that it's not.

Any ideas?  Could it be a food allergy?  I would think that sneezing would be an odd manifestation of that, but that's the only thing that I change with any regularity.  Would you worry if in all other ways they seem fine?

Thanks!

RBC = Felk?

2006-10-11 Thread Leslie
Hi,
I went out with my vet last night and a couple of her friends and she was telling a tale about work yesterday - something went wrong in a normal blood drawing and the situation expanded and they ended up moving the situation to the animal hospital.  In trying to assess the situation bloodwork was done and the RBC was ... high I think, so it was determined that the cat had Felk.  I was confused, but only able to get one question in about it (I don't like to push her in social settings, she'd obviously had a hard day and had her eye out for a cocktail), I believe my question went something like, "What?" and she said that there is some RBC that is specific to Felk.

Have any of you heard of this?  I didn't feel like I was understanding.

Pricing Database

2006-10-11 Thread Leslie
Hi guys,
I don't know that mechanics of this, but on a raw-feeding co-op list I'm on they are a live database through yahoo groups that members can go and enter into.  Maybe we could just create a template with columns of different regions and then different tests/procedures and we as members could go and enter our own data into it.

Again, I don't know exactly HOW this is done, but we might be able to figure it out through the help of Yahoo! Groups.

Re: dental work

2006-10-11 Thread Belinda
Sorry reread your email and see he isn't having a dental necessarily
unless needed. During an exam, they should examine his gums for color,
inflammation, redness along the gum line and tartar, check his teeth for
any cavities or broken teeth, check the back of his throat for redness
or inflammation, under his tongue for any abysses, tumors or growths,
things like that.

During an actual dental procedure they will clean his teeth, remove any
that are broken or can't be fixed, check more thoroughly for any tumors,
abysses, inflammation or any other potential problems.

Fred had a dental about 2 maybe 3 months ago, ask your vet to use
isoflurane or sevoflurane anesthesia and to give fluids before, during
and after. These are suppose to be the safest anesthesias and are used
on babies. Fred was fine, he didn't eat much that day but was eating
normally the next day.
