I have loads of Beatles music. You can create a screensaver with as few

six and prefer twice that for my own tastes. Not everybody is fortunate
enough to have a lot of pics but you can also add other meaningful
imagery such as the Rainbow Bridge images, pet's playmates, cartoon

passed on. What Beatles songg did you have in mind?

Re: To Sally

2006-10-14 Thread Sally Davis

Gina,

Thanks for the information about URI. If my brain was working right now I
probably would have figured that out. As it turns out all the cats that had
the Upper respiratory infection have tested positive. I guess their immune
systems were fighting too much. Lily had a sneeze or two but never a full
blown cold.

I just read the abstract regarding using low dose interferon for treatment
of FIV and possibly FeLV. I know this was a small study group. Does anyone
here have experience with this sort of treatment?

More importantly Should all the cats get this drug? The other cats may be
already fighting off the virus. I am very limited in funds. And have not
yet figured out how I am going to handle the expense of treating and
vaccinating the cats. I am still surprised the kitten is testing negative
she is probably the most exposed cat to Lionel . They were best buddies.
Although he is the only cat testing positive for FIV he may not have been
the source of the FeLV. Tiny was the first with the URI. I know I will
never know where it originated.

OK next question. I could not get appointments for the cats until late
November. I will probably be able to get them into the vet as a walk-in
sooner. With 9 cats I can't take them all . Should I take the FeLV cats
first or get the negative cats to get vaccinated? The cats are separated.
For the most part the others are staying outside. Tiny and junior are in my
bed room. Mainly to keep Tiny from darting outside which he already did
yesterday. I managed to catch him right away, but he will get smart about
that and I may not be so lucky the next time.

The only medicine I have now is amoxycillin which is being used to treat
whatever infection caused Junior's temperature to go so high. I also have
Pumpkin's
Baytril, so I am giving that to Tiny for his bite wound. I know it is
overkill, but many years ago I lost a cat from a bite wound. The vet
advised my dad when he was euthanized he had FeLV. He was 12 yrs old and I
remember even after antibiotics his wound never healed. He stayed with me
until the end. I am sure he had renal failure.

I may have more questions. I need to check out the archives as well. Thanks
for the help.

Dodger is still alive!!

2006-10-14 Thread Christine Parsons

Hi Everyone,

people with Felv cats who arereaching out for help in waters they are new toand maybenever even knew existed shouldn't be met with judgment of being w/o voice, ignorant, without concern, and undeserving of sympathy.
If the above were true then they wouldn't be looking for help.
I'm the person who wrote to someone at a facility about my stray, Dodger..
"I need a fiv felv home today or Dodger will die. Please HELP!!"

I had no idea that myletter would be forwarded here. Just found it by chance the othernight as I continue to learn about these diseases.
I read the following responses to my forwarded email, along with a few more:
"Please pass on my dismay at waiting until it was too late...and our dismay at the ignorance and seeming lack of concern on this persons end. It is always hard when we seemed to be faced with a "Take this cat or it will die ultimatum" I feel so sad for the poor cat, but I do not have any sympathy for the owner. It also saddens me that some women are at the mercy of their husbands last word. Have they no voice? "
My response to this attitude is that I am also saddened when people seem to forget what it's like to not haveexperience dealing with the sudden bad news and prognoses from the trusted neighborhood vet that "your cat should be put down...and we're open until 6"
Iwas a mess when the vet called withour bad news, ...IDID think I had only hours to come up with an alternative! Hence the ugly "ultimatum"...
but it was the truth as far as I could tell at the time. I didn't realize I was doing the ultimatum thingand while I'm ashamed of it, Idobelieve people should beslower to judge.
While you may hear the "or my cat will die" story often, these people are in the pit of despair and don't know what to do much less realize that you hear it so often to have become calloused from it.
They arejust telling what they believe to be the truth and really are experiencing something that is turning their lives upside down -thebleaknessmakes itdifficult to see, think, function, properly.

To say I waited too long for poor Dodger is an inaccurateassumption... Dodger was a I have a stray we call Dodger, who was probably already infected the day we met...
my daughter andI convinced my husband to let us bring him in as part of the family. Believe me, I knew I'd win, but it's best to have hubby on board.
We called the vet right away and made Dodger's appointment toget vaccinated and neutered...
Do you have a hubby and children? As a stay @ home mom, (youngest just started kindergarten) it's generally assumed that the bread winner has the final say on many things
I could be argumentative and insistent, but, I generallytry the persuasive route first.
When my husband heard the news and advice from the vet - as far as he was concerned, that was that. But I wasn't willing to put such an outwardly healthy animal to sleep and went straight home to research, and email and phone anyone I thought could help. As far as I knew I was racing the clock.
By days end I was informed enough toargue Dodgers case with hubby and won.
My hubby is not easy to reason with, but we got Dodger back from the vet and now heremains safe in the garage with his own blankets, litter boxetc. until I find a home for himandcontinue to educate hubby as I educate myself on these diseases.
How scary it is that people tend to take what veterinarians say, however wrong,at face value. That could've been me!
I won't give up. Finding Dodger a home is top priority. So my question to you is, might you or anyone you know of have room for a really cool, affectionate felv/fivcat from mid-michigan?

   Christine,
I'm very glad you were able to talk hubby into a different solution
with education. I hope Dodger is able to find his forever home and just
wanted to let you know there is a place where you can also post him to
try and help him find a home, it is here:

Thanks for caring enough to find him a home. He sounds like a real sweetie.

PS. When I first found Bailey, my positive, I had 3 negatives and had
him in his own room, telling hubby all along I was trying to find him a
home, I knew in my heart I was going to do my best to keep him, he was
such a sweetie and I fell in love with him the moment I picked him up.
It took five months for me to get hubby to fall in love with him and
then we brought him out and he was with us healthy and happy for 11
years and none of my negatives ever got it from him. When he passed
this May we had 6 furkids including him and the remaining are all still
negative.

a lot less than 15 mg/day, which she was on for a while. My big thing now

prednisone, but I can't exactly tell my vet that I got some through the mail and

a week since I heard the bad news about the stray cat. At first it
really freaked me out and I cried for 2 whole days, but now I'm feeling
much better. I decided not to worry too much about the other 3 cats
before their test result is out. I already isolated them, BTW.

Anyway, here is something about the stray cat. It's a boy, about
1.5 years old. I named him Prince. Prince weighs 11 pounds
now, compared to 8.5 pounds 2 months ago. He's very pretty,
extremely sweet and purrs all the time. He also has an amazing
appetite. I had him neutered on Tuesday.

Yes, he's very very active. I can hardly believe that he is
sick.
