Kerry, have you tried using the immuno-regulin? It
seemed to help when Smokey was running fevers. The
vet would tell me he had an infection somewhere but
they never could find it. When I started him on the
immuno-regulin it really seemed to help him. I am
crossing my fingers but it has been 9 months since he
had his last fever. I hope this might help. You and
Bandy are in my prayers. I hope Bandy starts feeling
better very very soon.

OT sort of--mail accounts

2006-12-21 Thread TenHouseCats

someone on one of my transport lists told me about gmail almost two years
ago; it's google's answer to web mail, and it's become my main everyday
account. it's quite different from other mail programs because it keeps
everything by conversation, which makes it ideal for lists.

it's POP compatible, so i back it up to thunderbird every day just in case
(only once since march 2005 has their been a problem, and what was lost were
some drafts, no actual mail), it uses google's search technology so it's
much easier to find things in messages than it is in thunderbird, for
example; has a 2GB storage limit (which they think is adequate--ha!), it has
excellent spam-filtering built in, its filtering and labeling is a bit
different than other programs but is adequate, and it's MUCH faster than
yahoo and other similar web-based email programs. one of the things i like
best about it is that i can mark a batch of stuff for deletion or moving,
and stop and read one email without losing all the nice little checkmarks
i've already made.

it's by invitation only, still, unless you want to add it to your mobile
phone (which is one step too far into the technological world for me), but i
have 98 invites left--so if anyone wants to try it, let me know.

Oh Anne, Jimi Too Cool's picture is worth a 1000 words! He'd already
stolen my heart, but one look at that photo tells me he had the perfect
body to go with his personality. I love black cats. My first true love
cat was a black 1/2 Siamese and Jimi's picture reminds me of him so
much, (his name was Baron Von Troublemaker Kitty).

I am so glad if my words and thoughts helped you in any way and would be
honored if you wanted to share them. Feel free to share not only my
name, but my email add with your friend. I would love to join you guys
in your discussions about how to cope with our grief. MC has mentioned
chat groups that deal with this sort of thing, but I've never taken the
step to join.

Thinking about death as another transition in life has helped me too.
If you believe in reincarnation as well as life after death, then what
we sometimes perceive as the final transition, becomes just another
transition in the cycle of life. It brings me some comfort to think of
death as yet another phase of life; another aspect to the process of the
eternal ebb and flow.

I'm glad to hear that Paolo is still with us, listening and caring. He

My deepest condolences on your loss. We all feel your pain of physical
separation. It matters not whether it's 8 short months or 10 short

seeking answers and assistance to help me cope with such heart heavy
loss. I'm still not clear, perhaps I'll never be, but I know it has to
do with the law of balance. What fills up, must empty; joy is tempered
with sorrow. Those of us with open hearts and arms seem to suffer the
most. It helps me to always remember that the suffering we bare is
commiserate with the bliss we experience. The simple bliss of loving,
of nurturing, of respecting and sharing our lives with those that give
all those things in return.

I recently read something that keeps going through my mind. Something
about transitions... The transition from infancy to childhood; from
childhood to adulthood; from adulthood to old age and infirmary, and
then the final stage of transition to the spiritual plane. Of course so
many of our babies don't complete all the earthly transitions of
development. Perhaps these special beings are evolved enough to not
require all that each transition has to teach us. Perhaps our life
spans are different because none of them need as much earthly time to
accomplish their goals. In any case, being forced to deal with their
loss has helped me see that they never truly leave us.

Whatever our beliefs, it's obvious through loving observation that other
species usually have a different comprehension about what is important
in life. They live in the moment and don't dwell on regrets. Certainly
they are more accepting of what life sends their way. I have resolved
to be grateful for all they have to teach me. To celebrate each moment
I share with them in the physical and remember that whatever form it
takes, that celebration continues as long as we hold them in our
hearts. Dying is not the enemy; ignorance and indifference are. As
long as we remain open to all they have to give us, our sorrow will
never be

I had to take Bandy back to the vet today. His temp was already back up to
103.8. Also, he has runny stool now worse than before..He has never had
this...So she changed his meds again and didn't want to give another dex inj so
I suggested depo-medrol...so we will see what that does..Anyway, she called his
internal med spec and she is out till Tues but we could have gotten into
another doctor on Fri, but I can't go as it is about 8 hrs up and back..so I
hope I am doing the right thing by waiting for his regular specialist. She
added doxycycline to his meds along with metronidazole..He got some more fluids
since we were there...I am beginning to think he has a gastro problem now and
really hope it isn't lymphoma..I hope it is just an infection..since all the
blood work was normal maybe it will end up being an intestinal infection...
Anyway, thanks for your continued prayers for my Bandy..

Kerry,
There is NO danger to using I-R with steroids. The reason the
instructions for I-R say to go off steroids 7 days beforehand is to ensure the
I-R is
fully effective, since steroids can lower immune response. Lucy was on
steroids when she got I-R, and Mike Lees, the vet from Ohio who wrote the
article on
the website about I-R, said he sometimes uses the two in conjunction. There
is no bad interaction between them. Lucy was on 7.5 mg/day of pred when she
got the I-R, and it only took two .25 ml doses of I-R to kick her URI
completely,. and it was mostly gone after the first dose.

I really do not see what you can do at this point other than try the I-R.
Nothing else seems to be working well for him, and I-R has helped all the
other cats on this list who have had similar symptoms. I know I am at risk of
sounding like a broken record at this point, and I am feeling like one, so I
will stop writing emails about this. But I tell you, when I have been sick

Hi Cindy

Do you use the immuno-regulin when needed or are you on a maintenance dose
for Smokey? My cats have finished their preliminary protocol. The vet plans
a monthly dosage. In the meantime Junior got sick, now Tiny seems to have
the URI. Tiny's cold is not as bad. He does seem a bit pale(his noses is not
as pink). I may have him tested or checked for anemia when he goes back on
the 5th of January.

Kelly I also want to talk to my vet about the alferon, but am unclear how
she needs to write the prescription.

Thanks for any help here. I am crossing my fingers that I do not have to
take Tiny to the vet before his scheduled visit. He seems to be holding his
own.
