He's gone. I took him to the ER and he went into cardiac arrest. We tried
CPR for a short time but the vet did not think he would live long even if we
could get him back, so I decided to stop flogging him.
I have some leukeran and some prednilosone left, if anyone nees. i will
be happy to mail it to you.

Re: Rainbow bridge for Joey

2007-04-28 Thread Nina
Son of a Bitc* Kelley. I'm sitting here balling. I've seen this so
many times, you'd think I'd somehow be able to get used to it, but I
haven't. I'm talking about not the fact that we lose them, but how
often they seem to rally towards the end. The way our hopes soar, no
matter how we've tried to prepare ourselves. Bless you for all you did
for him, you made a difference in his life. You came along and showed
him that there were humans he could trust and that cared. I hope
knowing how much of a blessing you were to his life helps you cope with
having to say goodbye. I hope it somehow makes all the effort and
expense worthwhile to you, I know it has to him. Maybe that's why he
choose this time to leave, he finally found what he was searching for,
someone to love him unconditionally and to rally to his side. You
weren't too late, you were just in time. Bless his sweet soul, and
bless you Kelley.

I hate to be pragmatic at a time like this, but if you are anything like
me, it might be best to hold on to the meds. Not that I welcome the
thought, but someone else who finds their way to you might need them in
the future.

Thank you for being on the front lines of rescue, you are my hero.

Urgent - Missing Mattie - need prayers and meditations please!

2007-04-28 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto
One of the rescued kitties, Mattie who is about one year old, a
beautiful long hair calico girl, Mattie is missing from her new adopted
home since last night on the first day - she is partly feral and we
desaprately trying to find her again - she is very new to the area as
she got out of the house from the screen window on the first day - I put
the flyers out everywhere - she is microchiped, but since she is sort of
feral, so more likely non one will see her during day time or catch her
- please pray that we will find her soon and bring her back safely -
here's the meditation which has worked for so many missing kitties in
the past - please meditate for Mattie as she is such a sweet angel and
she is so scared right now as she has no idea where she is and
where to find a food - than kyou for all your prayers and meditations in

The adopters need to put out a humane trap, baited with canned mackeral or
something along those lines (smelly fish is especially useful but catnip
sometimes works when food does not). Put the trap near the window where she
got out. She is probably nearby and hiding and will come out when it is dark
and quiet to look for food.

Are there any feral groups in the area where she escaped? Would help to
contact them. She may may her way to a feral colony in search of food.

I agree with Kelly and Susan, you need to get a trap out asap. Great
idea Susan about contacting possible feral groups in the area. You
might also want to contact the people at the local shelters who deal
with ferals and give them Mattie's description. Do you have a picture

Bless it Hideyo, you adopt out few enough without having something like
this happen. I hope it doesn't dissuade you from placing other
kitties. Try not to worry, she is probably still nearby and will come
out when it gets dark. You said she's a year old, how old was she when
she was rescued? Does she have any experience with being on the
streets? At least she's spayed, she won't have to fight off any Toms.
How far is she from her original colony? I'm so sorry darlin'. I'm

Does Mattie trust you? You might want to put an article of clothing
that smells like you over, or next to the trap. Do you have any of her
littermates still? I know it can be a traumatic way to trap, but maybe
you could put a buddy of her's in a large carrier butted up to the trap,
(the way we do when we use babies to catch their mommas). Are any of
her friends esp vocal?

2007-04-28 Thread Hideyo Yamamoto
Well - traps are set up already - she is not even near where she was
originally from when she was growing up -she was at my vet's clinic for
the past 6 months being socialized after being rescued- from my
experience of recapturing a feral which is new to the area - you really
need to do it in multiples steps.. Mattie has been trapped in the past,
and she may not go into the trap right away, but I first need to know
where she is at - so I asked the adopter to put the food all over the
areas without traps so that we can first identify the area she might be
at - so even if she does not want to go in the trap - we can narrow
daown the area she might be at -- otherwise you may be sort of shooting
in the dark - but I will put the trap out anyway just in case we are
lucky enough to catch her that way. This is a kitty that they (the
clinic) asked me to take because she is more feral than other kitties
they were caught at the same time, and I hesitated to do so for various
reasons, so, I really want to find her quickly as I do feel responsible
- she was coming around and become very friendly - but I am sure that
she is sooo scared right now.

A good thing is she is in a very safe neighbourhood - in a very wealthy
area.. and no dogs or cayotes.. lots of big clean yard and hiding places
- I need lots of prayers and meditations from you guys - so that we can
find her asap.

There may be other cats who will eat the food. Also, since she just got out so
recently she is probably hiding nearby scoping out the terrain. Look within
100 feet of her exit point, someplace dark and quiet and secure.

With traps, always cover them with towels or area rugs so only the opening
shows, and put a dishcloth or newsprint on the inside bottom to cover the trip
plate. The trick is to make the trap look like a cozy safe lair.

He stays in Eric's room, because he does not want to be around the

Nina, what a beautiful statement about our beloved FeLV+ ones and how
hard they try to stay here with us because although they know all
about the rainbow bridge they know that it's harder for us to
visualize that transitional part of life than it is for them. I
believe they want to stay here for us, too, as well as for
themselves, because it is as hard for humans to transition between

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and suggestions for Tomi.

He had a pretty good day yesterday, he was watching the birds outside the
window for awhile and purring as I petted him. He was even interested in
eating some food.

Today was not such a good day. He seemed ok first thing this morning, but when
I gave him a bit of food, he promptly vomited up. He was then a little out of
breath from vomiting, and cried a bit because I believe he was scared as he was
trying to catch his breath. He also peed himself for the first time ever :(

After that, he had no energy to move all day. He basically stayed in my
bedroom the whole day, lying under the sink. I gave him some towels to lie
on, and he peed again tonight on those, too weak to get up.

My vet clinic doesn't do house calls, so if I need to euthanize him, i'll have
to call around and see if anyone will do a house call. I don't think he can
handle a car ride at all now.

Even the thought of putting him to sleep has me in tears every time, but I
think he's at the point now that he is getting no pleasure out of life. I
think he is waiting to die :(

I've been hoping and praying that Tomi would somehow pull through this, and
last week he did seem to be doing better on the 2 prednisone per day.

But now, the last few days, he's been going downhill fast.

Today, he is out of breath just walking a few feet, and breathing fast. I'm
still able to coax him to eat a bit of baby food, but he just threw up the last
bit of food I gave him. He never throws up normally.

I guess I have to finally accept the fact that he's not going to get better.

I've been thinking about the whole euthanizing thing, but I honestly don't
know how I could do that to him. To spend the last hours of his life doing to
him what he hates the most (car ride and vet visit), seems too hard for me to
handle. I don't think i'm strong enough to make that decision. To me it feels
like I would be personally ending his life.

I don't want him to suffer either, and i'm not sure at all how much longer he
will last when he is having difficulty getting enough oxygen circulated due to
anemia.

I still can't believe all this has happened. Two months ago I was positive
he would one day become a chunky, lazy old tom cat, lounging in the sun. I
would never have dreamed I would lose him after only 2 and a half years.

Over the last 7 weeks, i've become even closer to him than ever as I've been
trying to nurse him back to health. He's always been so loving and tolerant
of my hugs and kisses. Life is going to feel so empty when he is gone.

With traps, always cover them with towels or area rugs so only the

I am sure that she is sooo scared right now.

A good thing is she is in a very safe neighbourhood – in a very

hiding places – I need lots of prayers and meditations from you

Great idea Susan about contacting possible feral groups in the

will see her during day time or catch her - please pray that we will find
her soon and bring her back safely - here's the meditation which has worked
for so many missing kitties in the past - please meditate for Mattie as she
is such a sweet angel and she is so scared right now as she has no
idea where she is and where to find a food - than kyou for all your prayers
and meditations in advance!

You imagine a golden coil coming from your heart center

Searching and probing for missing Mattie!

Latch onto her like a magnet and guiding safely home to Dawne!

All the prayers are so appreciated.
