According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers. Despite having a $32 million budget, PETA does not operate an adoption shelter. PETA employees make no discernible effort to find homes for the thousands of pets they kill every year. Me neither. I believe their goal is that animals should not be subjected to the tyranny of human ownership, even though Fluffy and Fido are no more capable of surviving running free than a goldfish (and when they do, usually have about the same lifespan as one). PETA needs to go back about a few million years in the evolutionary process and talk to the cavemen and wolves who buddied up in the first place. I'm not saying that all their causes are bogus -- circuses are cruel, the way we get our meat is unnecessarily brutal, and people should be concerned about those animals too. But yes, they are deeply hypocritical in their treatment of animals that have not run free since Man first picked up a stick and threw it. They have lost sight of what animal welfare and animal rights really mean.
