Anyone know about Cat Tail Farms in MI? Little boy needs a home!
Hi All! I just had a wonderful conversation with a woman who got my name from my (cat) oncologist in downtown Houston (I haven't been there in over a year, but apparently they remembered that I took care of a few cats with FeLV!)...the woman I spoke with, Carol, just took in a sweet little white and grey baby boy who has tested positive for FeLV...Carol is devastated but would have been willing to give him a good home if she didn't have a few dogs who don't get along very well with cats... :( Right now, Teddy (the little cat), is being fostered by a friend of hers, but he is scheduled to be transported to a sanctuary in Micigan called Cat Tail Farms. So my first question is: does anyone know anything about or have any personal experience with this rescue? Carol is so attached to this little guy, and it kills me that I can't take him in...naturally, she'd like to see him go to a good home rather than a sanctuary...but she wants to be sure that he goes to a home where he will be well taken care of! :) Teddy sounds like an absolute little baby doll...he's no more that a few years old and was apparently abandoned. It sounds like he had a rough start...the neighborhood cats were beating him up regularly (which is probably how he came into contact with the virus in the first place) and he was just skin and bones! Carol took him in and got him neutered and treated for an abcess in his neck...he's been de-fleaed, de-wormed and is living like a little king with a soft, warm bed, good food and all of the toys he can play with until his trip to MI in June. He's all white except for a grey spot on his head and grey/tabby tail with beautiful yellow eyes. This guy is really something special...not only did he find a kind and caring person in Carol, but he's really impressed the vets with his sweet demeanor and good health! If anyone can help or has any info on the sanctuary, please let me know! For her own piece of mind, Carol needs to know that he is in good hands...and I can't think of a more caring or knowledgable group of people than you guys!! Thanks! yes, dear, i know it well--remember that earlier emeow today when i mentioned a transport from Houston to MI. that was when i was a live-in volunteer at Cat Tail Farms! so i know it rather intimately. they are not taking in many cats these days, so i'm assuming this little guy is somehow involved with the rescue i told you about gee, how is he getting here? (get to see old friends) i only live about 6 miles from the sanctuary, and still volunteer there a couple of times a month ask me any questions you may have and i have GREAT photos of the wonderful FeLVs there, past and present... -- MaryChristine AIM / YAHOO: TenHouseCats MSN: [EMAIL PROTECTED] ICQ: 289856892

WHAT A CRAZY WORLD!!! :) When Carol mentioned a rescue in Michigan, I had a faint little memory spasm as if that should mean something to me...what a small world! :) She didn't say how she found out about Cat Tail Farms...but I imagine she must have found somebody with an in...because, like you said, they aren't taking many cats in now-a-days (as is the case with most rescues)! What a lucky guy! She's afraid of screwing up any chances of him getting in there (I hope I haven't jeopardized anything by sending out this email)! Thanks for your reply!! There used to be a place or two in southern Missouri that took FELV+ kitties, but I think once they get known, they get so full and don't take any more! I'll check and see what I find... Title: Message I'm sure you already know of Home for Life, Jenn...that was the first one I ever heard of, when Chicagoland tails ran a feature on it maybe 2 years or so ago. They were new, and building an annex for FeLV kitties. It does not matter if they are actively accepting new cats at this time, they may be in the future and this list I'm making will exist forever. I need to knowall no kill sanctuaries that accept FELV and FIV cats, regardless of current openings. I did not have that one yet, I just added it. You mean this one, right? http://www.homeforlife.org/ If anyone else knows of anymore, please email them to me, don't assume I have them already! You can check my page at http://ucat.us/domesticcatlinks.html The sanctuary section is quite a ways down the page, listed by state alphabetically.
