2006-03-10 Thread Sandra

Hi Marlene, My name is Sandra, and I am
treating my boy Tabbs on Virbagen Omega Interferon the firstbatch cost me
405 euros, but it hasgone up, and the second cost me 500 euros, so that
hurts, but I have not hand any side affects, Tabbs has been on it for over 4
weeks now, the first batch which was 5 vials of 10mu, and we treated him every
other day injections only, so the batch only gave me ten injections, as we where
giving him 1/2 a bottle every other day.
The new batch we are giving every day, one day by mouth and one day
injection. as my vet is unsure if giving it by mouth is correct. would be very
interested to hear if giving by mouth with the Virbagen Omega Interferon
is OK, as I hate doing the injections
I am waiting blood test today to see how heis doing, and also
awaiting to acquire the epogen, whichcausing problems on getting, I
ordered it over ten days ago and am waiting for the hospital to ring me, when it
arrives, but wonder if they are giving me the run around.

Good luck and hope things improve for you both

I would be grateful if every one could comment on the
dosing of Virbagen Omega Interferon by mouth, I know the human interferon
is given by mouth.

Marlene,

I am not sure what all the numbers mean, going up or
down and such, but you and Pekoe are still in my
prayers. I did see that the reticulocytes went up, so
this is a good thing since he is producing red blood
cells. Please keep us posted on his progress. And
have a wonderful and restful weekend!

:)
Wendy

2006-03-10 Thread Nina

Sandra,
The research and investigating that we did when I was using Interferon
Omega indicated that it did not work orally.  If you want to give it
orally as well as subq, I would use the Interferon A for the oral
administration.  I too wanted to hear that giving the Omega would work
orally, alas, I don't think it's the case.  As far as I know there
shouldn't be a problem with mixing the two interferons, but I don't
have any verification of that.  I would just give the injections for
the protocol you and your vet have decided on and then follow them with
the IA later, if you feel it is warranted.  One other thing, the 7 days
on, 7 days off for the human interferon, is used when you plan on
keeping them on it indefinitely, (in the hopes that they won't build
immunity to it, unlike the feline interferon that it is believed does
not build immunities).  I always gave my guys IA, whenever they're
symptoms called for it, (upping the dose if it seemed called for), and
then when they were asymptomatic again, I'd stop.

I'm pulling for you and your boy Tabbs,
Nina

Pekoe's Latest

2006-03-09 Thread Marlene Chornie

Hello All,

I never did get around to posting Pekoe's blood test
results from 2 weeks ago. He had a recheck just yesterday as well.
The first set of numbers are from Feb. 22, the numbers in ( ) are the normal
ranges, and the second set of numbers are from Mar. 8 -

WBC - 7.3 (Normal = 4.2 - 13) 6.6
RBC - 5.0 (N = 6.2 - 10.6) 5.0
Hb - 99 (N= 93 - 153) 101
PCV - 29% (N= 28 - 49%) 31%
MCV - 59 (N= 39 - 52) 62
MCH - 20 (N= 13 - 17) 20
MCHC - 336 (N= 300 - 344) 325
RDW - 19.8 (N= 14 - 17) 18.7
Platelets - 18 (N= 93 - 514) 12 (most platelets are shift in nature)
MPV - 17.5 (N= 8 - 21) 22.4
T.S. Protein - 81 (N= 60 - 80) 81

Reticulocyte Count - Retics % - 0.1 (Feb. 22) - 0.2 (Mar. 8)

- Abs. # - 4.98 (N= 60) - 10.2

He's been on the higher dose of Prednisone (20 mg./day)
for 10 days now, and has also had Interferon Alpha 1ml./day X 7 days (then off X
7days, etc.). The Internal Medicine guy that our vet spoke to said that it
can take as much as 6 wks. on the higher dose of Prednisone before you see any
substantial improvement in the numbers (if you're going to). The statement
regarding the platelets being "shift in nature" - our vet says that means he
is producing platelets, but that they'rebig ones.
Pekoe continues to do quite well clinically. Still
licking concrete but not quite as much. So, all in all, we're counting our
blessings so to speak. We're in the process of gathering the necessary
info for the Virbagen Omega Interferon, so see if it's something we can afford
to do.
My thoughts are with each of you who are caring for your
ailing sweethearts, and those of you who have lost a beloved friend.

Marlene
