RE: prednisolone and prednisone
No, I am saying that my vet prescribed very conservative amount of prednisone to Naomi so I couldnt tell exactly how to convert --- I will ask my vet tomorrow morning.. Lucy is right now on 12.5 mg/day. She weighs 8 pounds. For severe IBD, recommended starting dosage is 1-2 mg/lb/day, so Lucy right now is right in the middle of that dosage (1.5 mg/lb/day). She has been as low as 1.25 mg every 3 days in the past, but has been having a lot of problems lately and so is back up to her highest dose. So are you saying she would get more prednisolone than the pred she is getting? Are you sure? Michelle In a message dated 9/10/2006 2:29:41 P.M. Re: prednisolone and prednisone
I had Gypsy on both, I started on Prednisone in pill form and then when to the injections. The dose of Prednisone that I had Gypsy on was low, and I can't remember if she had been tapered off of it before we tried the Prednisolone, (also IM injections). I had also heard it is the less harsh of the two. Your vet is starting to piss me off. Does anyone know if I can switch from prednisone to prednisolone all at once without problem, and if the dosing is the same? Thanks, Michelle

Did you check the archives on the IBD list? They should have the answer to that. I hope by the time I'm writing this that you have the dosing info figured out. N [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks. Re: prednisolone and prednisone
Yes you can, the prednisolone is what the liver turns the prednisone into, just one less step the body needs to use to process it. Prednisolone should never be used in cats with septic peritonitis or pleurisy, which is why cytology is a very important part of FIP diagnosis, as there will be many more white blood cells in the effusion of a cat with sepsis, and a good cytologist will detect the bacteria or fungi.
