I just ordered both of those books on Amazon.com it was exactly cheap
but they are getting hard to find, as it is I won't get the pitcairn
book until the first or second week of May and the other the end of
April. I've been cooking for Fred and will gradually switch the others,
right now I just want to get Fred eating enough, he's my CRF guy.

My vet is still fighting me on the feeding tube, I'm going to weigh him
each day until the 25 and then we'll see if he's gaining, maintaining or
losing. So far he gained an oz from the 15th to the 16th. He doesn't
look like it he is so bony.
Wish me luck, my guys are having a hard time giving up their Fancy
Feast, I'm so worried and want to get them off any processed food as
soon as possible.

I've got the texture stuff pretty well figured out, because their food
has to have the same texture as their Fancy feast, my guys are very
texture oriented. But the right vitamins and minerals they need is
where I'm having problems, that's why I ordered the books, plus to get a
little variety in their diet.

Mine average one such meal a day and two meals of commercial catfood. Wish
turkey was as cheap yearround as it is around Thanksgiving. I could afford to
increase the shredded deboned turkey and decrease the catfood.

It seems like every day something new lands on the recall/contaminated list.
Now that Natural Balance, which does not even contain wheat gluten, has been
recalled, it feels like nothing is safe.

i've got a copy of dr pitcairn's book (newest is the 3rd edition) on order,
as well as a used copy of donald strombeck's. those are the two that my
source highly recommends--but the strombeck one is a veterinary textbook
and very pricey unless you look around. (it says it has 210 recipes in
it, tho, so they won't get bored!)

Hey, MaryChristine, how about spaying and neutering
 Pet Food officials?

OK, I can't believe I am thinking this, but does
anyone on this list make their own food? I will have
to go no mil tomorrow, but i am really considering
this. I don't know if i will ever be able to
completely do it...I have so many, but hey, it's worth
 a thought

Where did you find it? I don't mind checking the (one) grocery regularly for
sales on meat (right now I am fixing sirloin steak for her--the last day they
could market it so it is very affordable) but I am concerned about the needed
add ins. I am putting Just Born and Transfer Factor Feline Complete into some
of her food but..well, you know the concerns.

i've got a copy of dr pitcairn's book (newest is the 3rd edition) on order,
as well as a used copy of donald strombeck's. those are the two that my
source highly recommends--but the strombeck one is a veterinary textbook and
very pricey unless you look around. (it says it has 210 recipes in it, tho,
so they won't get bored!)

A can of mackerel runs about $1 a pound and chicken and turkey can be had on

cat food vs the ingredients and I'm not sure there is a lot of difference.

i just did a search for donald strombeck, and actually found a deal where
you could get both the 3rd edition of pitcairn AND strombeck for less than
what a lot of used bookstores have strombeck alone for. um, i think it
was amazon.com-- i don't have a credit card, so i sent the link to a friend
who loves me enough to order it for me so i don't remember the details?
(but will probably make up food for her to take home whenever she visits!)
