[Felvtalk] Rescue organizations for FeLV cats in Los Angeles, Ca or cities around and near to L.A.

2009-07-16 Thread Cindy Jackson
Hello Everyone,

If you personally know of a rescue center or sanctuary for FeLV kitties in Los
Angeles or around L.A. talk about it. Tell us why that place is a good place
for FeLV cats.

never heard anything but good from it, including from a national rescue
president who is rather violently opposed to ALL sanctuaries. she'll send
cats there.

i know a number of folks who have sent or sponsor cats there.

I assumed you knew about them from personal experience because you mentioned in
an
e-mail that you knew the place personally.

Maybe is too much to ask but can I have the e-mail of the people you know that
have taken cats to HFL? I want to speak to someone that personally knows Home
for Life.

[Felvtalk] cRe: Home For Life Animal Sanctuary in western Wisconsin

2009-07-17 Thread Cindy Jackson
Before taking any animal to any sanctuary research the place and definetely try
to talk with people who have been there personally. I would also do this if I
was in your situation.
My boyfriend also rescued an FeLV cat. He heard about Home from Life from a guy
that works at Best Friends sanctuary in Utah. Best Friends is a sanctuary that
also accepts FeLV cats but right now they are full. I also want to know more
about Home for Life.
Is the sanctuary in western Wisconsin or Minnesota? Their website says
Minnesota but when I e-mailed them their reply was that they are located in
western Wisconsin. Confusing.

Hopefully someone here knows more about Home for Life.

I rescued an FeLV cat and after weeks and weeks of searching for a sanctuary I
found two that can take him in. Home for Life and 'Not So' Purrrfect Angels in
Fresno (CA) are the two places I found. The issue with Home for Life is that is
too far from CA and I can't take him there personally. Therefore, I would like
to speak to someone who personally know the place. I need to know if HFL is a
good place for my FeLV kitty.
Purrrfect Angels is only a 3 hour drive from L.A. but the FeLV room is very
small. It can only house 6 cats. Right now they have two. With my cat it will
be three.

I don't know her last name. Only that her name is Yahara and she has a huge,

Has anyone ever offered to adopt your cat here on felvtalk or have you found

Check with his vet
Anyone adopting an FeLV+ cat had best be on a first name
basis with a vet
Will the adopter allow you or someone you know to see how the
cats will be living ???
And are they willing to answer all your questions ???

Yes... I have adopted maybe 20 FeLV+ cats from this list in the
past 6 years but none in the last couple years I think
I am getting old and slowing down after my heart attack a year
ago.

Reyna,

It's understandable. After all, people who adopt FeLV+ cats rarely turn any
away.
Their good heart cannot say NO.

What if I can't personally take the cat?
The adopter does not live in CA. I live in San Diego, CA.

He does answer all of my questions. The only thing he refuse to give me was his
address. Should I be concern? He says that he wouldn't like his address to slip
out and then have a line of people outside his place asking him to adopt their
cats.

Having that said Reyna you need to know where the cat will be going. You can't
just give the cat to anyone. A lot of people do not care about animals and do
horrible things to them.
I'm assuming someone will be taking the cat personally. Do you know who?

[Felvtalk] feline leukemia virus outdoors

2009-09-04 Thread Cindy Jackson
How long can the feline leukemia virus live outdoors?

Is it safe for a healthy cat, up to date on her vaccines, including the felv
vaccine, to roam and play in the same place a felv positive cat used to play,
roam, pee and poop?

The positive cat use to play, roam, pee and poop in my back yard (grass). This
was happening less than two or three weeks ago. She is now with a best friend
who adopted her from me.
She was an indoor cat but I allowed her to be outdoors, only in my back yard,
she didn't go anywhere else, once a day (each day). My back yard is filled with
flowers, grass and tall plants. She loved my back yard.

I want to let the new cat I got, who is healthy, be outdoors too. She will be
an indoor cat but I want her to get fresh air once in a while. Specially now
during the summer. My house gets really hot and humid. I don't have AC.

Is it safe?
