Re: [Finale] TRANSPOSITION -better way?

2004-12-13 Thread laloba2
Ah, got it.
So, just out of curiosity, if we are then looking at the Other
selection using chromatic transposition, does that work a little
differently? Using the method that you suggested, I first chose the
canned transposition and then chose other. I'm thinking that this
time, in chromatic rather than key, 6 in interval really is a sixth
as a musician would understand it to be. To transpose up, use a
positive number, down use a negative number. Then, alter changes
the interval by 1/2 steps. So a perfect fifth would be interval 5
alteration 0. A diminished fifth would be interval 5 alteration -1.
An augmented fifth would be interval 5 alteration 1.

Is this correct?
Thanks again for this information Robert! This is very interesting to me.
Best,
Karen
Finale can do any arbitrary transposition. Makemusic has canned the
most common ones in the pulldowns to make them easier to set up.

The Key Alter parameter is fairly easy to understand. It just adds
or takes away sharps/flats in the key signature.

Only a programmer could love the values required for the Interval
parameter (which refers to diatonic intervals). The confusing aspect
for a musician is having to enter 6 for a seventh, 5 for a
sixth, etc. But what you are really entering is the number of
diatonic steps. A second is one diatonic step, a third is two, etc.

Finale will show you the values for the canned transpositions if you
first select the canned transposition you are interested in, and
then select Other.

Sometimes you have to unplug and re-plug the USB cable and logout (or

It actually seems to be better than CD Baby for classical. They have an

I have no ties with them other that I just registered my labels CDs with

Go to the Transposition dialog for the staff.
Instead of using the canned Eb transposition, select Other. Then set
the
Interval to 6 and the Key Alter to -9. Voila.

If you want standard Eb transposition for other parts of the piece, you
can use a Staff Style to apply the special transposition to only the
part of the piece that is in A major.

Re: [Finale] Fwd: ????? a Finale question...

2004-12-13 Thread Brad Beyenhof
Just create a 2/16 bar and either:
1) Hide the 2/16 time signature with the Measure tool.
2) Make the 2/16 bar Use a different time signature for display
(click More Choices in the TimeSig dialog) of 6/8.

This will mess up measure numbers a bit since the 2/16 bar will be
numbered despite its not-really-a-measure status, but you can define
Measure Number Regions in the Measure tool to make numbers display
correctly.

Hope this helps!

Anyone who use a Windows email program should consider Thunderbird as
the better alternative. I have no negative opinions about Microsoft's
email client (and not much experience), however, the critical problem
that makes it an *unacceptable* choice is that Microsoft tries to
integrate their email clients with their applications -- and this
feature is precisely what is leveraged by malicious people trying to
plant spyware or other code in your system.

If you value the security of your computer, you would do well not to use
Microsoft's email clients. Thunderbird does not have the Microsoft type
of integration or achitecture (i.e., programs that automatically launch
from the email client) and therefore does not pose as much a security
hazard; moreover, Thunderbird also offers a robust email experience.

Thunderbird's isolation from your system integration is, in my opinion,
the compelling reason why it is the better choice. At one major
software company, use of Microsoft email clients was prohibited for this
very reason: it can be a gateway for malicious code.

Lastly, if you value your privacy and do not want to alert spammers that
your email addressis alive and well, do not open email in html view
(with links resolved) until you are certain that it does not contain
hidden link-back references; instead use the menu command:
View-Message Source [Ctrl-U]. Doing so will prevent any hidden
link-backs (a trick which even reputable companies are now starting to
use) from being activated.

And, of course, Thunderbird's junk mail processing is a welcomed
feature. I realize this is not Finale related, but the door has been
opened and I feel this is a critical point for anyone interested in
matters of email.

Do you have a source saying that this is required? Because I think this

Anyway, here are some more tips for browsing e-mail groups like this one:
* Most of you probably know about the discussion Thread view, but for

* The Message Grouping feature is a really good feature when sorting

The way I've got around this in the past (and it's a dreadful kludge)
is to enter the semiquavers as dotted notes, then drag the dots on top
