Re: [Finale] Help with Easy CD Creator 3.5c CIF File
David, I'm sorry I can't help you on the CIF file issue, but I have had CDs go bad before, and sometimes a different drive can read them. I have had particular success with the Apple Superdrives, which seem to be able to get past all kinds of errors that some other CD readers just choke on. I feel for you. This is a very real problem these days, as burned CDs don't seem to always last, and even a 70 year old vinyl disc or a 30 year old cassette still has SOME info on it that can be read, but a ten-year-old computer file may as well be birch bark for all the good it does us. I hope someone can help you out. Christopher On Dec 26, 2007, at 5:28 PM, David W. I've uploaded the cue sheet (CL3 file) and the image to here: http://www.dfenton.com/Collegium/HimmelUndErde/Image/ (the CIF file is still uploading, because of my slow upload speed on my asynchronous cable broadband) If you have any software that can read it, can you let me know? I'd really appreciate help on this, as I'm really afraid these CDs (which are of live performances) may all be completely unreadable (as are some of the older CDs of my group's live performances), and my CIF files could be the last digital version of this software that's available. (the reason I can't access it is because I only have the NT 4 version of Easy CD Creator, and can't seem to update it to work on Win2K -- the installer claims that I don't have 3MBs of virtual memory available, when I have 1.5GBs of virtual memory, plus 768MBs of real RAM!) (I'm also trying to get Exact Audio Copy to read the CD, but it isn't getting very far -- reads the table of contents, but can't read the tracks) ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Right now it seems that the trial version of CDBurnerXP thinks it's able to copy the CD. I'll see if it succeeds. None of the other software I've tried can read it, but we'll see if the new CD copy is usable. MagicISO and CDBurnerXP are two of them. I think I already deleted a couple of others. Re: [Finale] Performance notes - text & notation excerpts
I've done some things in a fashion similar to Noel. I've also imported whole sections from a word processor as a graphic into Finale; also Finale sections and pages as graphics into word processor. One can make about anything work. Raymond Horton Noel Stoutenburg wrote: Chuck Israels wrote: Collective wise ones: What is the best way to create a page of performance notes that includes text instructions and small (one measure) musical excerpts? Can a word processing document (formatted with musical inserts) be dropped into a Finale page in toto? I have not had to do this before and am looking for advice. I have done it two ways. One is to just do TWDT it in Finale, writing the notes, placing the instructions, and flowing the text from one text block to the next as needed. And I don't just limit it to notes. I used Finale to produce a complete program / libretto, including music for chorales / hymns for Stainer's Crucifixion, and J.S. Bach's St. Matthew and St. John Passions. The Bach had the German text and English translation side by side in two columns. The other way is to use a word processor for the text, and Finale for the musical examples. I work on both documents at the same time, adjusting the margin settings as I go in each document. When done, I print both documents on the same piece of paper, printing the word processing document on one pass (not necessarily the first) and the musical example on a second pass. Downsides: I did the Bach Passions with each section of the work in a two separate text blocks, one for the original text, one for the translation. The biggest pain is that other than selecting each block in the document, and then clicking to open, the text block editor provides no way to jump to edit a particular block, so that if one wishes to edit text block 432, one has to click the "up" button the appropriate number of times. ns ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

It's some setting in Paint. Or you might have to get a different graphics program to create your TIFF files in, one which will allow you to save uncompressed tiff files. === David H.
