"ah and this is a great one, "x for henry flynt" also by young. david tudor did a version for cymbal, i think, at the première. ensemble recherche did quite a good version as well." Having, at one time, been the publisher of this score, I'll just note that neither a version for cymbal nor an ensemble version would be in compliance with score, which specifies a particular piano cluster and a specific means for determining the number of iterations (which substitutes for the "x" in the title of a given performance. Re: [Finale] font problem in PDF
Don't you want to have Acrobat Embed all fonts rather than the subset? i leave common fonts like times and arial out of the embed list. although the fact that some of these fonts actually look different on mac and pc makes me rethink this idea... initially i only selectively embedded fonts to reduce document size, but i guess this shouldn't realy be so much of a problem now, the extra fonts don't add so much bloat. That is what I generally set Acrobat to do..though I haven't used it in a while since OS X has built in PDF support. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Does the librarian have an early version of Windows? Recent Mac- created PDFs break on older versions of Windows. I had this problem at a print shop (!) Re: [Finale] font problem in PDF
As I posted earlier, you need to resave your resulting file by doing a "Save as..." in Preview before sending on your PDF. This has resolved my problems here. The files only change slightly in size, I might add. -Randolph Peters On 2009-10-09, at 10:35 AM, shirling & neueweise wrote: i'm not sure where this problem comes from, maybe someone has a solution. i (mac) sent parts to the orchestra librarian (PC) who sees characters instead of music symbols for noteheads, clefs etc. my distiller settings are to embed all music fonts (subset when under 100%). she sees the same problem with a PDF generated through the OSX dialogue. the conductor didn't have this problem, but i know he has finale installed, and therefore all necessary fonts, on his dumputer. in the short term she is downloading the demo version of finale and so should have the fonts and be able to view/print the parts correctly, but this should not happen and i would like to resolve it. any ideas? ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

Re: [Finale] print PDF all (linked) parts
ok, yes, it did for me as well, so the problem is somewhere in finale/acrobat... as johannes points out. the OSX-generated docs are twice as big as the ones through acrobat, and i have distiller set to print at 1200. i guess this is partly because all fonts are enbedded in the OSX version, but i only embed selected fonts with distiller. I'm using the built-in Save as PDF from the OS X print dialog. Works perfectly. ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

On 09.10.2009 Chuck Israels wrote: That could turn out to be a significant problem. Is there any indication that this function might be restored? Is that a Finale problem or a Snow Leopard problem? It's always something...! Ok, let me explain: This is entirely not Finale related and is relevant to every application on the Mac. The Acrobat Distiller printer driver is no longer working on Snow Leopard, in fact it is absent if you have Acrobat 9 (which updates itself). Instead there is an item in the PDF menu within the printing dialog called "Make Adobe PDF" which is supposed to have the same functionality. In reality it is not. Instead of using clean distilled postscript, it takes an Apple generated PDF and tries to make it into an Adobe PDF. I have already had numerous font related problems with this, which included rejected PDFs from Lulu. I have no idea whether Adobe will come up with a better solution. They blame Apple for making Snow Leopard too secure. I doubt this reasoning very much. Johannes ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
