Looks good. I'd be interested to see it compared with Gardner read. Is it
more comprehensive? How?

Elaine Gould is a super, super fussy editor, which is exactly what is
required of course from such a position. This is her labour of love
covering about 20 years or so of work, if I remember correctly.

It's a really comprehensive volume. It's not like what I remember of the
Read book so much, i.e. in terms of being mostly about what symbols etc.
to use, but also like the Ted Ross book.

I thoroughly recommend this book - in fact I have made all my students

Perhaps the easiest thing to see is the PDF with sample pages. I have

looks like a good reference for the foundations of notation. 14pp
extract available:

http://www.behindbarsnotation.co.uk/contents/

By far the best layout is one five-line stave, even if this entails
placing notes on one or two ledger lines to create sufficient lines
for the required instruments (see Table 1 (a)).

the best layout is NOT by far a 5-line in any general sense. ledger
lines should be avoided (except maybe the single ledger line in
drumset parts).

percussion multi-stave section in the example is terribly
problematic. her recommended layout is bad, the example uses
several instruments which could be done as an altered normal drum
chart (bottom space upwards: BD TD SD 2BG) or possibly as a 5-line
staff (notes on lines) and a separate 2-line staff for the temple
block and woodblocks (notes on spaces). this is how the orch percer
is going to organise their space (2 groups of instrument types), so
having that reflected in the scoring will make the score easier to
read.

[Finale] TGTools Modify-Transfer Problem

2010-09-23 Thread Leigh Daniels
Hi All,

I'm using FinMac 2010b and TGTools 2.60.

I am trying to use TGTools Modify-Transfer to copy the Layout of a Drum
part to a Bass part but no matter what the settings are, the layout
doesn't get copied.

The drum part is almost all empty measures with slash notation and a few
measures with some notes and rhythmic notation.

I used to be able to do this and now I can't get it to work. I'd
appreciate any suggestions of what to try.

Thanks.

Two possibilities occur to me: Update Layout (often the culprit - this

Try those.

However this comes up as the lesser problem for me. The edition wants buyers to
print an order form, fill it, and send it to them. I no longer have a legible

I don’t want to give away my credit card information to potential helpers, I

to print an order form, fill it, and send it to them. I no longer have a
legible handwriting (which was my reason for turning to the computer 19
years ago), as I don’t want to give away my credit card information to
potential helpers, I see no immediate way to place an order.

Heard back from Faber - the price is
a pre-release price, sadly. So it
 won't be delivered until Jan.

Is this book ready for immediate delivery if ordered
now? (Shipping to Denmark from the UK isn’t much of a
 delay).

Re: [Finale] OT: Behind Bars

2010-09-23 Thread Klaus Smedegaard Bjerre
Again thank you!

I have the full Adobe Acrobat 8, but I only can make the form filling work
partially.

I see no response to checking the card box.

The form doesn’t accommodate an international address.

I wouldn’t like to send my card information in a mail attachment anyway.

When I buy stuff from my US retailer I use to send my card informations from
three different mail addresses.

This edition just should have set up a buying page. I they didn’t want to pay
for an in-house security system they, could use PayPal.

If you have the full version of
Acrobat, you can run Form Field
Recognition on the PDF which allows you to type in the
 information.

(I just tried it and it works).

However this comes up as the lesser problem for me.
The edition wants buyers to print an order form, fill it,
and send it to them. I no longer have a legible handwriting
(which was my reason for turning to the computer 19 years
ago), as I don’t want to give away my credit card
information to potential helpers, I see no immediate way to
