You have to be in the FH2 part, and right-click and select Apply staff style to… Current score or part. Then you choose the Blank Notation with Rests staff style manually, NOT with the metatool. Then you can create multi measure rests in that part. Re: [Finale] Scanner for music (11x17)
I have a Brother MFC-J6710DW multi-function inkjet that prints and scans up to 11x17. The MFC will save directly to a network location (FTP) as PDF, JPG, TIFF or whatever. As a printer, it will do 2-sided printing of 11x1y. And you can copy up to 11x17 too, of course. I have a large format laser printer I normally use for music, but this MFC has saved my buns more than a few times. For under $500 it is a pretty good deal. Re: [Finale] Layer 2 silent till pass 2?
Yes, there is. I wouldn't have believed it, but it works, at least in F2014. 1) You must have each layer going to a separate MIDI channel. Do this in the Score manager. 2) There are different approaches to turning sound on and off per pass. Most people use velocity, but I have the best results by forcing a transposition of 100 when I want to turn the instrument off (that puts it out of range) and then doing a transpose to 0 when I want to tiurn it back on. That way, the other dynamics are not affected. This is clean, reliable, and doesn't mess up HP. 3) So create an expression Play 2nd x with transposition of 0 and play only on pass 2. 4) Create another expression called off or anything meaningful to you. Set the transposition to 100 and play it on pass 1. Hide this expression. 5) After the expressions are attached, go edit the attachment dialog and set both of them for playback only on Layer 2. Re: [Finale] Multi-measure rests in shared staff managed parts
I don't think that works. If I use the clef tool to apply the BC to FH2, then it also applies that to FH1. I want FH1 to be in TC throughout, and FH2 goes to BC for a couple of measures. I think your first idea will do it. On 1/21/2015 9:23 PM, Robert Patterson wrote: I just realized u can do exactly what you want. Put bass clef in the part wherever u need it. Then apply a transposing staff style to the score that forces the score to t.c. I do this kind of thing all the time with cues. Now I have another similar problem on the same part. There is a passage where the two horns are in octaves. This is all in T.C. on the score. The lower part ends up with 4 ledger lines, so I'd like to put it into B.S. on the managed part. It seems that that if you apply a clef to the managed part, it affects the other part that is lined from the same staff. Does anybody know a way to make that work? I guess my next best option is to move the notes up an octave in the managed part (which should not change the score) and then show an 8VA in the part, but that may throw off the playback in the score. Then you choose the Blank Notation with Rests staff style manually, NOT with the metatool. Then you can create multi measure rests in that part. Re: [Finale] Those errant articulations
Here's how I do it: 1. Apply all the articulations, using the normal articulation def 2. If the articulations for cross-staff isn't good: JW Change-Articulations-Placement Style with the Connected Entries filter set to Cross Staff. The plug-in will create a new articulation def (after asking you first) with the other setting, if that articulation def isn't available in the document. I usually work around the problem by creating a copy with positioning set to Manual. Thanks very much Robert and Chuck, That will do it. I'd forgotten that full manual option -- thanks for reminding me ... though it means I can't just sweep over an area that has all the same articulation without deleting the ones I know won't move correctly.
