Re: [Finale] Part prints at 1/16 size of page
Very interesting. I had something similar happen a couple of times. I always "print" my Finale material to PDF using PDFCreator. I never print directly from Finale. There were a couple of times where one part out of 20 was super small in the PDF. If I would run it a second time, it always came out correctly, so I never picked up the pattern. I had always assumed it was a quirk in PDFCreator, but now it seems that it was actually a Finale bug. On a separate note, I have started compiling a list of the most annoying bugs in Finale in the hopes that maybe these will be addressed in 2014.5. At first, I was intending to offer a top-10 list for consideration, but since I have been writing these down, there are way more than 10 really annoying bugs. Yesterday I was working with lyrics which is almost completely dysfunctional in F2014. For example, if you enter "I" a a word in a lyrical line, the cursor jumps backwards two syllables and messes everything up. And there are several other really bad bugs in lyrics. Has anyone else compiled such a list? Maybe I will share mine once I have it organized. Re: [Finale] Part prints at 1/16 size of page
This bug plagued me very often when I was using FinWin 2007. I recall printing to CutePdf to get by it. It still crops up occasionally in subsequent versions including FinWin 2014. Only a select few of us have had it happen! I will remember Jim Williams's suggestion now. Before that, there was some discussion to the effect that clearing and redoing multimeasure rests helped. I have done this and it seemed to help, but if Jim is right, it could have been timing that made the difference. I am having an "interesting" time with spacing: this is in connection with a project to make a video of trombone section parts from the Wagner Ring cycle. I have created a score and all the parts for this project, but my colleagues [actually my trombone students] complain about illegible parts. Finale [WinFin2014] has packed measures very close [TOO close] and the only way I have found to "clean it up" has been to set Finale to Speedy Entry and go through large sections of the parts and finish by putting the cursor away from the staff. It is workable but time-consuming and kludgy. Any ideas how I can clean things up a bit more elegantly? Re: [Finale] RESIZE TIME SIGNATURES
I recently needed to create a score with BIG time signatures but ordinary sized time sigs on the linked parts. The key technique I used to use the font 'Time (score)' at 60pt, adjusting the 'Document options>Time signatures>Top and bottom symbols appropriately and then using a staff style to hide the big signatures in the staves where you don't want the big sig to display. This approach works fine on WinFinale2014. It's much simpler than it sounds! If you want more information, let me know and I'll send you some more detailed notes with screengrabs. unfortunately there still is no way exceot a white graphic to hide the left barline of the uppoermost staff, if this is where one of your time sig staves are. Yes, there is: Don't create the dedicated time sig staff as uppermost staff, but as second staff. Then set Document Options -> Time Signatures -> Vertical Adjustment -> Score -> Top/Bottom Symbol to the appropriate value that the time signatures appear on top of the score. Re: [Finale] RESIZE TIME SIGNATURES
create 1 or more dedicated staves, resize them in page view to 200% (after final layout is done, this gets undone easily) optionally only have the time sigs showing on the time sig staves in order to reduce white space at the start of the measure: - set a negative value to start of measure width to have the time sigs straddle the barline (*) - apply staff style to all instruments "hide time sigs" -- in SC only unfortunately there still is no way exceot a white graphic to hide the left barline of the uppoermost staff, if this is where one of your time sig staves are. *) this causes some weirdness for the precise positioning of expressions so do this at the very end; also apply music spacing to the entire document after doing so. >I used to know how to create nice, big time signatures for my >scores, but now can't remember how.
