Very true!

There's a very good book by the late Andrew Stiller, long a mainstay of
this group, called "Handbook of Instrumentation." It's available
through Nick Carter Imaging:
http://www.npcimaging.com/software/frameset2.htm

I've found it to be a very accurate guide to ranges, techniques,
potential problems, etc. Far better than asking humans whose egos may
get the better of them.

It's available as a paper book, on CD-rom or in a combined package.

Re: [Finale] 2014.5

2015-11-19 Thread Aaron Rabushka
Thanks to all for the information about the tuba trill. In the work that I'm
copying out (one of mine what just needs a dynamics overhaul) this
unaccompanied trill introduces (I won't say modulates to) a new key. When
the piece was read years ago I didn't get any feedback on this trill. The
only problems that I did hear about (which I have subsequently fixed)
brought on a life lesson that you don't use trumpet range advice from
Maynard Ferguson wannabes.

Thanks again!

Tuba trills: f# to g# in the staff would be fingered:
2/3 to 1 on a BBb. A bit awkward.Alternate fingering would be quite out of
tune
2 to 2/3 on a CC Tuba. Easy.
2 to 1 on an Eb tuba. Easy. Sorry, but other poster was not correct.
1/2 to 2 on an F tuba. Easy.
I have avoided any options of 5th or 6th valves, as the setups are quite
varied.

Does your default document have a Text box in the upper left corner with
Insert>Instrument/Score Name inserted? That’s the way to do it.

Re: [Finale] Update: Info on JW Plug-ins & TG Tools

Correction - JW Space empty rests is working. I didn’t have the latest
version. My bad.

TG Tools Align/Move keyboard command is definitely broken, and that is a
painful loss. I hope MM fixes this quickly.

Re: [Finale] JW Plug-ins Not Working in 2014.5

2015-11-19 Thread Mark Adler
Just a reminder that as we modernize the Finale codebase to remain current
in today's operating systems, plug-ins also need to be modernized. While we
modernized all plug-ins that ship with Finale, it is important to remember
that not all 3rd party plug-ins have yet been modernized and may not work
in Finale 2014.5. My best advice is to check with the various plug-in
developers to make sure that you have the most current versions of their
plug-ins.
