[Finale] Going From Finale 2014 to 2014.5
Hi All, I’m trying to bring over customized items from 2014 to 2014.5. I’m at Library/Application support/Make Music and I’m going through folder to folder to see what to copy over to 2014.5. When you come to the Library Folder in 2014 there are my customized items as well as Chord Suffix, Music Spacing, etc. A bunch of stuff. When you go over to 2014.5 the folder is empty. Same sort of set-up in the Music Files folder (2014 has a bunch of docs in there and 2015.5 has nothing). Is this normal? Where did those docs go? thanks for you help, Peter Peter Sprague 311 East Glaucus St. Encinitas, CA 92024 760-436-3906 www.petersprague.com ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale To unsubscribe from finale send a message to: finale-unsubscr...@shsu.edu
[Finale] Reviving Really Old Finale Files (Continued)
Hi All and Christopher too, thanks a mil for your note and your offer and actually I’ve found out that the files are damaged. Another fellow from the list (Steve Fiskum) had an old Mac with earlier software and I sent a file to him and it came back as a damaged file. Plus, I did find some other files dated in the late 80’s and they opened just fine after I added the .mus extension. Well, not totally fine as things are a little convoluted but still they opened and all of the note data is there. So my next recourse is I have those files on floppy discs but I need to find someone in the San Diego area that has an old machine with a floppy disc drive…. The plot thickens! stay well and thanks, P Peter Sprague 311 East Glaucus St. Encinitas, CA 92024 760-436-3906 www.petersprague.com 1. Reviving Really Old Finale Files (Peter Sprague) 2. The books are out of print now but I still have the Finale files and I can’t open them. I have other older Finale files and by simply adding “.mus” to the end of the file they successfully open in Finale 2014. This worked for files created from 1991 onwards. But these Chick tunes from the “Light Years” album are ones that I can’t revive. They were created in 1988. I tried booting up an old Mac and the earliest version of Finale that I could install on it was Finale 2004. I still couldn’t open these files with this Mac. Anyone out there know of a service that could help out or do any of you have any ideas? Do you have an old Mac sitting around with a really early version of Finale that could give a whirl at reviving these old files? thanks in advance for any ideas or help…best, Peter Peter Sprague 311 East Glaucus St. Encinitas, CA 92024 760-436-3906 www.petersprague.com From: Christopher Smith christopher.sm...@videotron.ca Subject: Re: [Finale] Reviving Really Old Finale Files Date: February 28, 2014 at 9:03:44 AM PST To: finale@shsu.edu Reply-To: finale@shsu.edu Peter, Old files are SUPPOSED to be openable, though whether they open transparently (with all the items in the same places) is questionable. I have some very old files from about that date that still open, but a surprising number of them have become corrupted, missing large parts of the file itself. This probably occurred when I copied the file from one medium to another. Send me privately one or two that you think wouldn't be corrupt, and I'll try to open them. Obviously, I will respect your property and won't show them to anyone. Christopher ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu https://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

There should be an easier way to do it, for example you can set a backwards tie that stops at the barline in Speedy with opt = but ONLY if you are in the second ending and there is a note in the first ending! Strange restriction, wouldn't you say? Complain about this to tech support, so that it gets on the list of things to fix. But to do what YOU have to do, enter a tie forwards in the usual way, then go into Special Tools and choose the Tie Tool. Three handles appear on the note, drag the right-most one to the left until the barline. That's it. Subject: Re: [Finale] Finale/Sibelius -- which is truly faster? Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say it is a stupid question. But it is a question that whose answer is very individual. The only reason I chime in here is to mention that if you are not making full use of 3rd-party plugins, and also using a 3rd-party keyboard macro program, you have no idea how fast you can really go with Finale. I have no idea what the relative benefits of these products with Sib are, but with Finale they are huge. (But the learning curve is steep.) Hi, what are the 3rd party plugins and where does one find out about them and buy them? Thanks, Peter ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
