Wondering if you have ever transcribed The London Derrière?

Transcribed for what? As it happens I have transcribed (roughly) Grainger's
version for solo piano. Un peu étrange que you should ask such a question
:-/

we used FinWin 2004b for many years, but upgraded to FinWin2011 and
enjoy its comparative simplicity

You seem to be the only person here currently using 2011, everyone else
seems to have jumped from 2010--2012. I wonder why? I guess I'll just have
to look back in the archives for further enlightenment re 2011. I'm a little
wary of 2012 from what I've read here despite a longing for Unicode fonts.

[Finale] 18th Century Horn question

2009-08-23 Thread Rod McDonald

,

Funny that - I'm flying to Vienna on Thurs, but performing in Grafenegg and
Esterhaza.

The Italian C18th notation was a bit varied in the octaves written, often
being an octave too high in concert pitch. You need to see where the concert
Es come to determine which octave it is, because that will correspond to the
9th harmonic, i.e. the transposed 2nd line D. As long as that is on the 2nd
line down it is in the right octave for the players. Then everything sounds
as written in alto clef. Obviously it is horn in D (from the key signature)
and most players won't mind reading it as it is, because if you forget about
the clef and key signature, and imagine it has a treble clef, it will look
exactly like a transposed part for horn in D.

[Finale] create mp3 files!

2009-03-20 Thread Rod McDonald

Have been using Finale since 2004. Currently use 2009b with Windows on a PC.
In the past, up til a couple of months ago, I was able, and did in fact,
create mp3 files of Finale files. Now, whilst feeling somewhat embarresed, I
can no longer create mp3 files. Only wav. Files. What am I missing/doing
wrong? Any help greatly appreciated. Rod

'Save As' only allows me to save as midi file while 'export to Audio' only
allows me to save as a .wav file. I seem unable to save as mp3. No 'Save as
Audio' option!!! Guess midi will have to do! Thank You for your time. Rod

Don't know what you're doing, so don't know what you're doing wrong.
Just yesterday, I created an ~.mp3 file from within WinFin 2k9, by
selecting from the files menu the save as audio file option, and
clicking to save as a compressed audio file.

[Finale] Create MP3 Files.

2009-03-20 Thread Rod McDonald

To those of you who paused in their lives to look at my problem, creating
MP3 files, thank you, very much. The problem was solved when I ticked the
'Midi' play back ,instead of 'Vst' playback, under the 'Midi/Audio' menu.
This in turn allowed the 'Save as Audio' box with the necessary radio
buttons, to appear when I used the 'Export as Audio File' command under the
File menu. (I wonder what VST stands for!!). Best Wishes, Rod.

[Finale] missing 'Create Tempo Plug-In'

Have recently up-graded to 2009b and for the first time since I commenced
using Finale in 2004, I am unable to find the 'Create Tempo Plug-In', which
has always been under 'Plug-Ins---Expressions---Create Tempo. Now, no plug
in. Am I missing something simple? Help, please.I am in the middle of
something which requires repeated changes of tempo! Thanks. Rod.

Many thanks to those who helped me this morning. Took me a while to find the
Insert Note command...at my age, I seem to have difficulty seeing what is

Just create an expression in the tempo marks category. There's now
a menu (Insert Note) where you can choose the note value, and if
you continue typing something like = 120, you'll see that Finale
automatically changes to the font defined for tempo marking numbers.
Playback is automatically set.

Honestly, it's just as good as the plug-in. There are advantages over
the old version, as well:

- The simple fact of creating the expression in the tempo marks
category means that it gets assigned to the correct score list.
- If you have a tempo marking that you will need to use often, you
can create a metatool for it and pop it into the score with one
click, something that didn't work too well in older versions (a
measure-attached expression entered with a metatool automatically got
entered on all staves).
- The create tempo marking plug-in will only use Maestro as font
for the note and number. In 2009 you can choose any font for the note
value, and another for the number if you wish.
- You can now very quickly create an expression for a tempo relation
such as eighth note = quarter note.

Re: [Finale] Re:OTmusic getting louder - was Trombones

2006-06-27 Thread Rod McDonald
Interesting thread. I play a 2950 for 3 years now. The decibel level resides
solely with the practitioner! I chose the 2950 because of the 'Large Bore'
and also decided on the Bach Stradivarius with a 'Large Bore'. Sound is
delightful. Full, round and with the option of 'decibels' to the max, if I
desire. Main reason I chose 'Large Bore' was that I play with only one lung
and wanted to extend myself. Best decision I ever made as the sound is
beautiful. Rod.

Dean,
Last year I did make the switch from a Besson Sovereign to a
Willson 2905--one of only a handful of 2905s they made.
Am I lucky!!! And I do take care not to contribute to excess
decibels!! ;-)
Do you play a 2900 or a 2950?
