Hmmm. That command isn't doing anything for me to alleviate the problem I'm
having. The only thing that works is exiting/re-entering the speedy editing
frame. And it's enough of a hassle to cause me to consider setting up a
dedicated computer to run Finale.

Sorry, I got confused about where I was typing. I thought that I was in the
Finale Forum (Mac) instead of the FInale Listserve. Chalk it up to the hour and
lack of sleep!

My apologies.

2013-02-18 Thread Christopher Smith
There are all kinds of situations where you can get a note to hang in Finale,
particularly in Speedy. I do it all the time, by accident, say, by hitting
Return to go to the staff below while still holding the MIDI key, so the
original staff never gets a Note Off message on its channel. I also get hung
notes when switching programs, probably for similar reasons, though I suspect
the Mac MIDI engine might have something to do with it, with the way it manages
MIDI between multitasking apps.

Fortunately, there is an All Notes Off command in the MIDI/Audio menu.

Funny that you're asking these questions in the Mac forum. The question in this
case has most likely the same answer as for Windows, but that isn't always the
case.

[Finale] switching between Finale and other app causes "stuck" MIDI note(s) in speedy

2013-02-18 Thread toro 455
If this has already been discussed, I apologize.

When switching between Finale and another program, if I don't exit the
speedy entry frame, I'll get a "stuck" note (or notes) when I switch back
to Finale. Specifically, whatever the previously pressed note(s) on the
MIDI keyboard were will be added to whatever I input next.

So, for example if I enter a middle C quarter note beat 1, switch to
another app and switch back to Finale (without exiting the speedy entry
frame) and press a D on the MIDI keyboard, I'll get both a C and a D on the
score on beat 2. It acts as if I'm still holding down whatever the previous
entered note was.
