Re: [Finale] NumLock quietly eliminated on Mac portables

2009-08-13 Thread Chuck Israels

Dear Darcy,

Thanks for the copy of the email to Tobias. I have written him twice,
encouraging him to get the plugins updated for 2010 (copy/paste layout
does not work, and you can imagine the need for that with linked
parts). I don't want to become a pest to him, so it would help if he
were to hear from others.

Fond regards,

Chuck

Hi Tobias (and Finale list -- I've CC'd them too),

Today I was teaching a lesson to a Finale student, trying to
encourage him to purchase TGTools by demonstrating the utility of
the Align-Move hotkeys, but for some reason they would not work on
his machine (a recent-model MacBook Pro). I realized that his
keyboard lacked the NumLock option historically found on Mac
Portables -- so there is no way of accessing the Numpad *, Numpad
+ and Numpad - required for TGTools shortcuts.

Please add alternative keystrokes for these shortcuts ASAP! It's
frustrating that Apple has eliminated this option on their portable
computers, but now that they have, we desperately need new TGTools
shortcuts that don't depend on being able to simulate Numpad
keystrokes on a laptop keyboard.

[Finale] Playback problem

2009-08-13 Thread Rudy Lupinski
Sorry, I had already sent the following, but I used my other e-mail address
which isn't on your subscribers' list. I'm sending it again with the correct
e-mail.

I am using Finale 2010 on my MacBook Pro, running OS 10.5.8. I’ve just
encountered a weird problem with one of my files when I try to play it back.
All the sounds keep holding after they have been played and doesn’t quit
sounding even when I stop the playback. I literately have to close the file to
get it to quit sounding.

I have it playing through Garritan instruments. I tried using general midi
sounds and it does the same thing. It doesn’t do this with my other Finale
files. Somehow I must have changed something in the human playback settings,
but I can’t seem to figure out what it is. I’ve tried setting the human
playback to NONE, but it does the same.

This file did NOT have this problem before. The only thing I have done is I
started messing with Hyperscribe on a completely different file and I updated
my OS to 10.5.8.

Like I said before, none of my files have been effected. They all playback
normally.

My last resort is to copy everything and paste the music into a new file. I
don’t want to do this yet until maybe someone may know how to solve this
problem.

[Finale] OFFLIST

2009-08-13 Thread Darcy James Argue

Hi Chuck,

First off, I should say how sorry I was to have missed you when you
were in town in July. I'm afraid I ended up being totally jammed up
without a moment to spare. Next time, I hope!

That is *terrible* news about TGTools and Fin2010. I haven't even
installed that version yet, I've been waiting for the maintenance
update -- but without the ability to transfer layout via TGTools, I'm
not sure it's even worth putting on my machine.

Unfortunately, Tobias seems to have more or less abandoned TGTools at
this point -- it's been an incredibly long time since even the most
minor update, and while he's not answered any of my recent emails, he
seems disinclined to keep the software up to date. Obviously, this is
a huge problem for those of us that have come to rely on it. I suppose
the only thing to do is for us to keep being a pest to him, until such
time as he either starts working on the software again, or makes some
kind of formal statement that TGTools has been discontinued (which it
effectively has, it seems).

Cheers,

Re: [Finale] OFFLIST

2009-08-13 Thread Chuck Israels

Hi Darcy,

Also sorry to have missed you. I did see Ryan, who let me know what
was going on with your band.

Many of Tobias' tools work in 2010, and there are things in the new
version that I find useful - the chord attachments to beats rather
than hidden rests, and the well implemented rehearsal letter system -
both are helpful, but not having the layout copy/paste tool makes
using linked parts more time consuming than it should be. It's harder
to lose something you've become used to than it is to accept that
something you'd like is not there. Please write Tobias. It can't
hurt. He has responded to me and said that he'd be working on the
update, but that was weeks ago, and there has been no news lately.

Thanks,

Fond regards,

Chuck

Re: [Finale] Playback problem

2009-08-13 Thread Christopher Smith
I can't help you with the problem, except that maybe you have created
an expression, or something with the MIDI tool, that sends a sustain
pedal ON message without ever sending the off message. Did you take a
pedal articulation and change it to something else without checking
the playback? That has got me more than once.

However, next time you have sounding notes hanging over, use the All
Notes Off command from the MIDI/Audio menu. Then you won't have to
quit. I have to do this sometimes when I accidentally hold a key down
during Speedy Entry and change staves.

[Finale] VISTA fixxed

2009-08-13 Thread Howey, Henry
I would like to share with all of you how I FINALLY worked out the problems
I've had installing SIBELIUS 6.

After many exchanges with the folks at SIBELIUS, including an offlist note from
one of their heavies, I can now tell all of you what I had to do.

The final analysis was the fact that the root problem was in the Net 1.0
framework. In spite of weeks seeking a way to repair it, I had to finally
realize that there is no way to do it. I finally decided to spend $155 to
upgrade to VISTA ULTIMATE from the business version I had. For those who
might suggest I could repair from my setup disk, there is no way as I could
find no way to purchase one with the SP2 upgrade. To try to do it from the
pre-SP1 DVD that I had.

I backed everything up using CMS' BOUNCEBACK which turns an external HD to a
full image of the original and has a Linux-based recovery disk. (They have it
for MACs, too.)

I did all of the usual virus scans and disabled my firewall.

All in all, I needed 14 hours to complete it. It works.
