You may have heard, the Permaculture Park has won a grant that awards*

The deadline is August 31 and this would come at a great time to help push

We plan to publicly announce the campaign August 6th, could we post to the

Thanks for all your work, even in these difficult times.

Hey folks, I am looking for a couple volunteers who might be able to

If you are willing and able, I would be happy to meet with you during the
week to go over the very basic plan (weeding and mulching), assemble and
deliver tools, and meet afterward if needed for clean up.

Work party at the permaculture park project Wednesday 6/11 4-6pm

2014-06-06 Thread Joshua Dolan
First off, let me say thank you to all of the folks who helped make
Monday's ribbon cutting a huge success! I think we had between 60-70
attendees from the neighborhood, CCE staff, city government, a whole class
of BJM 1st graders and of course, our stellar volunteers. Keep your eyes
pealed for an article in next weeks edition of Tompkins Weekly about the
event.

This coming Wednesday 6/11 from 4-6pm, we will be gathering again for a
work party at the park *(Conley Park on the corner of Adams and Lake next
door to the Science Center)* to continue getting things into shape for the
summer. We will be watering, weeding and mulching but I would also be happy
to give folks a tour of the park in case they missed Monday's event. Please
let me know if you have any questions and feel free to call 607-280-8498.
Also, please help spread the word to your friends and neighbors.

Thanks,

Planting Party Tomorrow at Ithaca's new Permaculture Park

2013-09-25 Thread Joshua Dolan
Hello all, While you were perusing the Ithaca Times today checking out the
Best of Ithaca Poll results, you may have stumbled across an article about
Ithaca's newest permaculture project, the Permaculture Park Project at
Conley Park near the Science Center at the end of Lake Ave. As the article
said, we believe this may be the first project of its kind in Upstate NY.
After a successful work party during last weekends Farm-a-thon (held in
conjuction with Greenstar Community Projects Food Justice Summit) we are
very excited to be planting the first wave of woody plants this
Thursday afternoon.
Please join us from 4-6pmat the corner of Lake Ave. and Adams St. for a

Edible Park Design Session March 27 6:30-8:30

2013-03-20 Thread Joshua Dolan
Conley Park (between the Sciencenter and Neighborhood Pride grocery) will
be planted with edible landscape plants this spring. This will be the first
of two design sessions for people who want to get involved in this
project. We'll look at the current planting areas in the park, discuss the
needs and uses by neighboring families and organizations, come up with a
general plan for locations of new plantings, and learn about the
lesser-known edible trees, shrubs and perennials that can be grown in
downtown Ithaca.

Design Session 2 will be held in April and will go continue with
information on permaculture principles, planting in 'guilds' and finally
getting down to the nitty-gritty of designing the individual edible gardens
within the park. Planting sessions will take place in May and June.

*Gardener's Networking Meeting - Wednesday January 23, from 5:30-7:30*

Gardens 4 Humanity will give a short update on an initiative to open some
city owned land for communal gardening followed by a world café style
discussion. We hope to identify common areas of interest and obstacles to
gardening and areas where we can begin working together to form a strong
and resilient movement of local growers in back yards, schools and in the
community. Please feel free to bring some finger foods to share and visit
our seed cabinet while you are here. It's brimming with this year's
shipment of donated seeds!

The Gardener's Network is a coalition of growers and educators in Tompkins
County who are working together to promote and expand land access,
gardening and garden-related educational opportunities

Each month the session will be held at a different location in our
community to: a) give participants an opportunity to see multiple projects;
b) give host sites an opportunity to share projects publicly and to receive
feedback; and, c) to provide extra hands for any work the host site may
need d) to discuss strategies and tactics that we can use to achieve our
goals. If you are interested in hosting a future session at your project
or potential garden site, please send a short description of the project,
and the name/phone/email of a contact person to Josh Dolan at
jd...@cornell.edu. We are currently looking for hosts for our 2013 series.

Re: Try your hand at Maple Sugaring, Enfiled NY 12/12/10 at 12pm

2011-01-11 Thread Joshua Dolan
Hello Syrup Fans!

Would you like to get first hand experience producing maple syrup?
How would you like a discount on maple syrup this spring? January's
Sapsquatch Community workday will be held this Sunday, 1/2 from 11pm -
4pm.

The Sapsquatch Sugar Bush is located at 2247 Mecklenburg Rd. (SR79) in
Enfield, 8 miles from downtown Ithaca. Look for a big red barn just
after you cross the bridge 1/2 mile from Enfield Corners.  Pull into
the first driveway and exit around the other side of the house. The
sugar bush is located down the trail that runs east between the barn
and the road down into the woods.

The sugarshack is quickly filling up with firewood for this year
boiling, but there is still more room. We will be continuing winter
tasks such as cutting, chopping and stacking, closing in our new
lounge and mudroom, and bucking up logs.

Folks with chainsaws and/ or axes would be much appreciated! Contact
me with any further questions at 607-280-8498
