[Fink-users] xmlto install failure

2007-07-01 Thread Bob Portmann
I get the error below when trying to install xmlto. It would seem that
one of the getopt packages in necessary. I'm not sure which is best (I
give a list at the bottom of this email). Is a dependency missing from
xmlto?

Thanks,
Bob

[Fink-users] gtk-sharp2 install failure

2007-06-30 Thread Bob Portmann
I am having trouble getting gtk-sharp2 to install. I am using fresh
install of the unstable fink tree and have installed bundle-gnome,
mono, and mono-tools first (along a few other things). I use OS X
10.4.8 on a PPC G4 powerbook. I have tried to diagnose the problem but
my knowledge of fink internals is pretty limited.

The problem seems to be related to pango1-xft2{,-ft219}-dev. In
pango1-xft2-ft219.info it says that the -ft219 versions can co-exist
with the non-ft219 versions. But this is false for
pango1-xft2-ft219-dev which "conflicts with" and "replaces"
pango1-xft-dev (and vise-versa). I think this is the cause of the
problem below. Also, I find it strange that the gtk-sharp2.info file
lists BOTH pango1-xft2-dev and pango1-xft2-ft219-dev in its depends.
I'm not sure if the proper way to fix this is to make pango1-xft2-dev
and pango1-xft2-ft219-dev co-exist or remove one of the pango1
dependencies from gtk-sharp2 (or something else entirely). It would
seem the -ft219 versions are used by very few packages.

Thanks for any assistance,
Bob

In any case here is the error I get:

If any of the above dpkg error messages mention conflicting packages or
missing dependencies -- for example, telling you that the
package fink-buildlock-gtk-sharp2-2.4.3-1022 conflicts with something
else -- fink has probably gotten confused by trying to build
many packages at once. Try building just this current package
gtk-sharp2 (i.e, "fink build gtk-sharp2"). When that has completed
successfully, you could retry whatever you did that led to the present
error.

Regardless of the cause of the lock failure, don't worry: you have not
wasted compiling time! Packa

OK, thanks. I've never used apt-get so I didn't know that, since I
usually only work with the unstable tree.

[Fink-users] Fink install fails

2006-12-12 Thread Bob Portmann
I'm trying to rebuild my fink installation and cannot get past the
"update-all". I have a Quad PPC Mac running 10.4.8, XCode 2.3, Apple
X11 1.1.3. After moving my old /sw out of the way, I've done:

1. Installed using Fink-0.8.1-PowerPC-Installer.dmg

2. fink scanpackages; fink index; fink selfupdate (runs OK)

3. fink update-all (accepting all defaults)

This does a bunch of stuff and ends with:

(Reading database ... 4150 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace fink-prebinding 0.7.1-2 (using
.../fink-prebinding_0.7.1-1002_darwin-powerpc.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement fink-prebinding ...
Setting up fink-prebinding (0.7.1-1002) ...
Reading buildlock packages...
Could not resolve inconsistent dependencies!

Fink isn't sure how to install the above packages safely. You may be
able to fix things by running:

  fink scanpackages
  apt-get update
  apt-get install gettext-dev=0.10.40-25 gettext=0.10.40-25

Updating the list of locally available binary packages.

4. So I try what it suggests:

4a. fink scanpackages (runs fine)

4b. apt-get update
E: Could not open lock file /sw/var/lib/apt/lists/lock - open (13
Permission denied)
E: Unable to lock the list directory

So I am stuck. Any idea how I can get fink installed? I also tried
starting over and using the unstable tree with the same result.

Thanks,
Bob

[Fink-users] GNU coreutils and binutils

2006-03-03 Thread Bob Portmann
Why are the GNU coreutils and binutils packages not included in Fink?
These seem like pretty basic stuff that I imagine lots of people would
want (since many of the gnu commands are much nicer than the BSD ones
that come with Darwin). Do they break the system somehow? I've
noticed that Darwinports has them. Has anyone tried them?

Thanks,
Bob

I've managed to get some things installed but my problem remains. I
tried to install xxdiff which installs qt (and other stuff), but it
ends on the same error (while installing qt3-3.3.5-26):

Can't exec "/var/tmp/tmp.4.PP7f7A": Text file busy at
/sw/lib/perl5/Fink/Services.pm line 503.
### execution of /var/tmp/tmp.4.PP7f7A failed, exit code -1

Here is a listing of the file:
ls -lF /var/tmp/tmp.4.PP7f7A
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5900 Feb 22 18:29 /var/tmp/tmp.4.PP7f7A*

so the file in /var/tmp is executable. Does anyone know what exit code
-1 is? The error seems pretty random, sometimes occurring and
sometimes not. If I re-boot and redo the install it will usually work
(that is how I've got to where I am, getting past two similar errors).
Just logging out and back in again without the re-boot does not seem to
work. I guess I will continue like this until I get all the stuff I
need installed, but it is unfortunate it is so flaky.

Am I the only one who sees this?

I haven't tried upgrading XCode yet but have got a bit further by using
a /sw from another G5 and selfupdating it. Then I switched to unstable
and did a selfupdate, index, scanpackages, update-all. Then tried to
install gtk-2 and it ends on a similar looking error to the original
one I mentioned:

The problem seems to be the in /sw/lib/perl5/Fink/Services.pm, although
I don't know what that does. Does anyone have any ideas at this point?
I don't want to upgrade XCode unless there is hope it will fix things.
Also, is XCode 2.2.1 a beta or stable release?

Thanks,
Bob

[Fink-users] selfupdate problem

2006-02-21 Thread Bob Portmann
I just tried installing fink on a new Mac G5 Quad, OSX 10.4.5, XCode
2.1, and cannot get past the fink selfupdate command (after running
fink scanpackages and fink index as requested). The selfupdate fails
with the following error:

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Well, I do not think that the problem is that glib (or pango, etc) are
missing but that the incorrect gcc command is issued by libtool. I
found the generated.c file and if I add the compilier options from
pkg-config for gtk+2

pkg-config --cflags gtk+-2.0
-I/sw/include/glib-2.0 -I/sw/lib/glib-2.0/include
-I/sw/include/pango-1.0 -I/usr/X11R6/include
-I/usr/X11R6/include/freetype2 -I/sw/include/gtk-2.0
-I/sw/include/atk-1.0 -I/sw/lib/gtk-2.0/include

then the compile above works. For some reason the 1st 3 and last 3 of
these includes are missing in the command issued by libtool (shown
above) and this is what causes all the errors. I still do not know how
to fix the fink package for gtk-sharp2 but maybe these comments will
help those that know more about this stuff (and I think it narrows down
the problem to the gtk-sharp2 package, at least on 10.3).

Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks,
Bob

It seems to be present:

Doing a fink list it claims that glib2-dev is intalled:

i glib2 2.8.5-1 Handy library of utility functions
i glib2-dev 2.8.5-1 Handy library of utility functions
i glib2-shlibs2.8.5-1 Handy library of utility functions

Should I try to rebuild these?

[Fink-users] gtk-sharp2 install fails

2006-01-20 Thread Bob Portmann
I cannot get gtk-sharp2 to install. The bottom of the error message is
below (the are a LOT more vte errors and warnings). I am on OS X
10.3.9 and am using a new install version of fink, converted to
unstable and installed a few packages (emacs, gtk+2, mono, mono-dev,
gtk-sharp). Gtk-sharp installs fine but gtk-sharp2 does not (I tried
both before and after installing gtk-sharp and get the same error).
Anyone have any suggestions.
