SV: [Flashcoders] scrollPane :: issues

2006-10-27 Thread Johnny Michaelsen
Use the System.security.allowDomain(www.loadfromthis.com); inside your swf
at the top in frame 1. And have the crossdomain.xml file in the root of the
domain your are trying to load from.

//
?xml version=1.0?
cross-domain-policy
  allow-access-from domain=www.allowloadfromthis.com /
  allow-access-from domain= allowloadfromthis.com /
/cross-domain-policy
//

That should do the trick :)

Sounds like a security issue with loading SWF files from a remote domain.

Try a search for allowdomains.xml

[Flashcoders] Easy to learn and use 3d program

2006-10-27 Thread Johan Nyberg
Hi, I'm looking for an easy to learn and use 3d program to create
content for Flash. What are your suggestions? I want to do fairly simple
animations, but I need something that are a bit more complex than say,
Xara3d.

Re: [Flashcoders] There is no method with the name 'super'

2006-10-27 Thread Quinten [ :: MediaMonks :: ]
The reason why your error goes away is because the movieclip on the
stage is not extended by 'RectangleExt' and the class is never loaded.
So there is no error.

Some findings:

- the only way to get rid off the error is to completely remove all the
actionscript on the frames.

- Compiling in Mtasc will remove the error
- Running without the actionscript on the frames works fine (and i can
use all the functionality of the rectangle class) So extending intrinsic
classes is possible
- It is not just the Rectangle class, other classes like Point for
example will give the same error

my conclusion: There is a serious bug in the Flash compiler.

but i am open for suggestions.

Must be a naming conflict with some internal/hidden class.

I have 2 classes: 'Tester' wich extends a linked movie on the stage. And
RectangleExtender wich is called in Tester

class Tester extends MovieClip
{
   public function Tester()
   {
   var objRectangleExtender:RectangleExtender = new RectangleExtender();
   }
}

and:

import flash.geom.Rectangle;

class RectangleExtender extends Rectangle
{
   public function RectangleExtender()
   {
   super();
   }
}

Everything works fine until i put actionscript on a frame. (just a simple
stop(); on the first frame)

then i get this error:

**Error** H:\temp\SuperFoutmelding\RectangleExtender.as: Line 7: There is no
method with the name 'super'.
super();

Total ActionScript Errors: 1 Reported Errors: 1

I really have no idea why flash suddenly throws this error. does anyone has
experience with this kind of error?

I put the source files here: http://stuff.mediamonks.net/quinten/SuperError.rar

just remove the stop() command in the 'mcLinker' movieclip and you will see
that it works fine.

I meet a special problem with set style and attached movie. I apply a font
size to 9 and when I open it the label inside get bigger

You can see it there : http://www.laurentcuchet.fr/flash/combobox

I done this script :
//
var maxfields=2;
sp.contentPath = mc;
for (var i = 1; i=maxfields; i++) {
var uc = sp.content.attachMovie(upload_component, uc+i, i);
uc._y = i == 1 ? 10 : sp.content[uc+(i-1)]._y+uc._height;
uc.number_txt.text = i;
uc.my_cb1.setStyle(fontSize, 9);
uc.my_cb2.setStyle(fontSize, 9);
}
stop();

Re: [Flashcoders] xml parsing problem

2006-10-27 Thread Julien V.

Bill,
Take a look at kirupa's XML guide here:
http://www.kirupa.com/web/xml/XMLwayAround2.htm

I also came across the same problem some time ago. I decided not to play
with siblings because our xml schema (especially the order of the
sibling nodes) couldn't be predictable. So I went to a custom parsing
process based on the nodeName of each child node of my sibling nodes.

Something like:

var subItemObject:Object = {};
var subItemChildNodes:Array = subItemNode.childNodes;
for (var i:Number = 0; i  subItemChildNodes.length; i++) {
  var attributeNode:XMLNode = subItemChildNodes[i];
  var attrName:String = attributeNode.nodeName;
  var attrValue:String = attributeNode.firstChild.nodeValue;
  subItemObject[attrName] = attrValue;
}

Hope it helps,

Julien Vignali

[Flashcoders] Check visible characters in textfield

2006-10-27 Thread Ellen Sundh

Hi!

I wonder if there is a way to count characters visible in a textfield? I
have a text where not all characters are embeded in the textfield and I
want to check how many that are.. So it would be great if there was I
way to check the length of the text in the textfield and not the
original string.

I use this code, but it returns the same number of characters even
though the textfield displays less characters.

latin1 = ÀÁÂÃÄÅ..;
trace(latin1  + latin1.length);
txt_tf.text = latin1;
trace(txt_tf.text  + txt_tf.text.length);

Thanks in advance!

Re: [Flashcoders] Check visible characters in textfield

2006-10-27 Thread Miguel Angel Sánchez
You can check txt_tf.textWidth before and after adding a character to
the textfield, if it doesn't change, the character is not embedded.
Something like this:

//Your textfield in stage with some characters embedded
var tf:TextField;

//The characters you want to test
var chars:String = abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz123;

for (var i:Number=0; ichars.length; i++) {
   var previousWidth:Number = tf.textWidth;
   tf.text += chars.charAt(i);
   if (tf.textWidth==previousWidth) trace(chars.charAt(i) +  is not
embedded);

}

Re: [Flashcoders] SharedObject and Load Balanced Server (Local SharedObjects)

2006-10-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

i thought about this last night and I believe this is more of a question about
how the load balancing server would work - what the URLs would look like. If
the load balanced server ends up generating alternate domains, like
www2.domain.com, www3.domain.com, etc. I am thinking I might be able to use
System.exactSettings

System.exactSettings allows us the specify whether or not to use the
superdomain (domain.com) or exact domain (www2.domain.com, www3.domain.com)
matching rules for locally persistent data. If set to false, then the
superdomain would be used, and settings and data for SWF files hosted at
*.domain.com are all stored in one place on the client machine.

but i'll be screwed if my .swf files get served from some damn akamai server
with a funky akamai domain name - from what I have read I do not believe it is
possible to shared local persistent data accross domains (local SharedObjects).
if anyone knows otherwise, I'd love to know how!

 On Thu Oct 26 15:32 , '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' [EMAIL PROTECTED] sent:

attempt to send this didn't go through -

If I have a flash module which uses SharedObject in a page on a website which
is
load balanced, what implications might that have for how data is stored on the
client's machine?

I'm asking because I know SharedObjects write .sol files to the client's
machine
using the domain from which the .swf was loaded, so if that .swf was served
through a load balanced server, would the flash module have access to the same
SharedObject the next time the user hits the site?

I am worried that the originating domain for the .swf might be different from
the
site's domain due to load balancing, thus it would write a SharedObject using
the
domain of its origin which could be different the next time the user visits
the site.

thanks

[Flashcoders] OT - Flash Player run on the Blackberry?

2006-10-27 Thread Miles Thompson
A couple of clients, not technically minded, have said that Flash now runs
on the Blackberry.

I checked the Adobe Flash Lite pages and see Pocket PC and Sony clie. Asked
at Blackberry tech support (they shoud know, right?) and the kindest way to
describe the response would be obtuse. The answers were It depends on
the provider, and We don't make any recommendations for third party
software.

Does anyone know if
a) Flash Lite runs on Blackberry?
	b) If it is provider-dependent, what happens when the user travels to
another coverage area. (Seems naive, but we are talking TCP/IP, aren't we?)

Thanks, and apologies for a non-coding question, although a Yes to a)
will change that situation. g

Regards - Miles Thompson

I wonder if there is a way to count characters visible in a

great if there was I way to check the length of the text in the
textfield and not the original string.

I use this code, but it returns the same number of characters even
though the textfield displays less characters.

latin1 = ÀÁÂÃÄÅ..;
trace(latin1  + latin1.length);
txt_tf.text = latin1;
trace(txt_tf.text  + txt_tf.text.length);

Thanks in advance!

[Flashcoders] AS2 Timer Class with multiple Events

2006-10-27 Thread eric dolecki

Hey all,

I am looking for a pretty light-weight AS2 Timer class that I can assign
multiple events to...

such as fire an event at 15 seconds, then finally at the end (30 secs).
Something with clean API. I'm googling now.

Re: [Flashcoders] There is no method with the name 'super'

2006-10-27 Thread Muzak
No MovieClip is attached to the RectangleExt class and doesn't need to be.
It's used by Tester class (which is attached to a MovieClip).

I can clearly see the trace in the constructor of RectangleExt, so the class is
loaded.

 The reason why your error goes away is because the movieclip on the stage is
 not extended by 'RectangleExt' and the class is never
 loaded. So there is no error.

 Some findings:

 - the only way to get rid off the error is to completely remove all the
 actionscript on the frames.
 - Compiling in Mtasc will remove the error
 - Running without the actionscript on the frames works fine (and i can use
 all the functionality of the rectangle class) So
 extending intrinsic classes is possible
 - It is not just the Rectangle class, other classes like Point for example
 will give the same error

 my conclusion: There is a serious bug in the Flash compiler.

 but i am open for suggestions.

I wrote an AS2 Timer class that mimics the AS3 timer class:

RE: [Flashcoders] Easy to learn and use 3d program

2006-10-27 Thread Merrill, Jason
Blender - very Powerful tool, not too bad to learn (though takes time reading
the tutorials) - and Opensource (free!). Would recommend you check out
Blender (or also Wings 3d, though I haven't tried that yet). However downside
is no .swf output - though you could bring the model into another app which
has .swf vector output like Swift3d. Blender is a great tool, and free is very
attractive. Can take a few hours or days to learn the basics though. Overall,
the tool is almost as powerful as high-end apps like Maya, Softimage, Lightwave
and StudioMax, and being free is very attractive.

If you have a small budget, swift3d is the way to go. However, modeling is
somewhat limited, but great .swf output. Easy to use and learn.

If you have unlimited funds, check out Maya which has modeling and .swf output.
 But that tool is a whole career in itself and will take a few days to learn
the basics.

 If so, how does it compare to other products such as ElectroServer? I've

Hi Scott,

I have experience with it as I'm part of the Red5 team developing the
product. The main difference between Red5 and a server like Electro
server is that Red5 supports many types of protocols (RTMP, AMF,
XML-RPC, XMLSocket (soon to come)), where as ElectroServer only uses
the XMLSocket connection built into Flash. RTMP allows you to steam
video and audio to and from the Flash player making video chat
applications possible. You can't do that with XMLSocket.

The other nice thing about Red5 is its ability to tap into other
server-side APIs very easily, so one example might be an existing MMO
game server engine could be used with Flash using Red5 as a sort of
proxy.

At any rate I'm not too familiar with ElectroServer, so I'm not
comfortable comparing them feature by feature. ElectroServer certainly
looks like it has a nice client side API though (just based on what I
saw on their website). Something like that for Red5 doesn't exists at
the moment, but there's no reason why someone couldn't easily create
one and wrap the NetConnection stuff like they have with XMLSocket.

I hope that helps a little. If you have more questions please ask and
I suggest that you sign up on the Red5 mailing list as there are many
more experienced people that will help you there.

Re: [Flashcoders] very special Problem : set style and combobox

2006-10-27 Thread Glen Pike

Hi,

   The problem is happening because you are scaling your movie clip.
The scale does not seem to get passed down to the components - the
problem does not happen if you use the code below, but on your site the
scale of the uc movie is set to 70. You may need to style the List
Component which draws the out of scale text...

   You may be able to workaround this by creating a CellRenderer which
changes the way the contents of each list cell are drawn, but it will
probably be less painful not scaling your movieclip if you can help it.

uc._y = i == 1 ? 10 : sp.content[uc+(i-1)]._y+uc._height;
uc.number_txt.text = i;

Anyone else have this problem? Anyone know how to access this

Works for me! They link to internal help docs with a URL like:

http://127.0.0.1:58332/help/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.adobe.flexbuilder.help%2Fhtml%2Fhow_flex_works_2.html

So it looks like adobe has some sort of server installed to serve these up.

Did you just install? Maybe reboot then try. I always find that there is
a delay before they start the first time I ended up with 6 tabs in
firefox because I kept clicking it.

[Flashcoders] AS 3 - event args

2006-10-27 Thread dnk
Hi there. I am just beginning my adventure into AS 3, and came upon
something.

In AS 2 I used to use a custom delegate class to deal with scope issues,
but also be able to pass args (in an array, single string, etc) to my
event functions.

So for example, I might have something in AS 2:

// snipped fro ma method
for (var j:Number = 0; j  5; j++) {
   this._targetMc[dtBtn + j].onPress =
MyDelegate.create(this, onPressed, j);

   }

// event method
   function onPressed(i:Number) {
   trace(i);
   }

So the custom class would allow this to work in my classes.

Now in AS 3 as I have read, the basic delegate class is no longer needed
as the scope issues are dealt with now.

So how would I go about accomplishing the same thing in AS 3?

passing an arg to an event method?

Thanks!

Dustin

Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components?

2006-10-27 Thread Ray Chuan

Hi,

setMedia should be defined on the LocalConnection instance:

receiving_lc.setMedia = function(file:String, type:String):Void {
 //do stuff
};

On 10/28/06, Martin Scott Goldberg [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

Hi Ray, that didn't work either. Changed the code to reflect those

var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
sending_lc.send(_myConnections, setMedia, inmylife.mp3,

Here's the recieving code:

_root.my_display.associateController(my_controller);
_root.my_controller.controllerPolicy = on;

var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
function setMedia(file:String, type:String){
 _root.my_display.setMedia(file, type);
}
receiving_lc.allowDomain = function():Boolean {
  return true;
}
receiving_lc.connect(_myConnections);

This is getting really dissheartening that there's this much of a problem
to do what should be a simple function.

 Could it be I have to allow connections from this domain? (I saw another
 recent topic on that here).

Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components?

2006-10-27 Thread Ray Chuan

I forgot to mention that there is a risk that your variables can go
out of scope, especially for your receiver.

Might want to consider this is it still doesn't work.

Hi,

setMedia should be defined on the LocalConnection instance:

receiving_lc.setMedia = function(file:String, type:String):Void {
  //do stuff
};

 Hi Ray, that didn't work either. Changed the code to reflect those
 help pages as well, and that didn't work either. Here's the sending code:

 play_button.onRelease = function()
 {
 var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
 sending_lc.send(_myConnections, setMedia, inmylife.mp3,
 MP3);
 }

 Here's the recieving code:

 _root.my_display.associateController(my_controller);
 _root.my_controller.controllerPolicy = on;

 var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
 function setMedia(file:String, type:String){
  _root.my_display.setMedia(file, type);
 }
 receiving_lc.allowDomain = function():Boolean {
   return true;
 }
 receiving_lc.connect(_myConnections);

 This is getting really dissheartening that there's this much of a problem
 to do what should be a simple function.

 Hi,
 in your receiving LocalConnection object add allowDomain:

 this.receiving_lc.allowDomain = function():Boolean {
   return true;
 }

 Also, use an underscore at the front of your connection name:
_MyConnections.

  Sorry I'm just getting back to you, was out of town for a wedding.

  You have things a bit in a weird order in the receiving swf.
  Also, receiving_lc outside and inside the initialize function are 2
differenct variables/instances.
  receiving_lc in the initialize function is local to the function,
because of the var keyword.

  And nested functions are a 'no no'..

  If you're coding in the main timeline, try this:

  Yes, I'm coding in the main timeline. I have the following code now
  (after modding yours) and I still can't get it to work:

  import mx.utils.Delegate;

  my_display.associateController(my_controller);
  my_controller.controllerPolicy = on;

  function setMedia(file:String, type:String){
   this.my_display.setMedia(file, type);
  }

  var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
  this.receiving_lc.setMedia = Delegate.create(this, this.setMedia);
  this.receiving_lc.connect(myConnections);

  In the button movie I have the following code in the main timeline:

  var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
  sending_lc.connect(myConnections);

  play_button.onRelease = function()
  {
  sending_lc.send(myConnections, setMedia, inmylife.mp3,
  MP3);
  }

  For the test HTML, I have following code (created by merging the two
  html's created by publishing:

  html xmlns=http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml; xml:lang=en lang=en
  head

Re: [Flashcoders] LocalConnection and Media Components?

2006-10-27 Thread Muzak
If both swf's are on the same domain, you don't need to do anything special to
get things working.

Have you tried simplifying things, like sending a simple text message from one
swf to the other?

// sender swf

import mx.utils.Delegate;

function sendMessage() {
 trace(Sender ::: sendMessage);
 var sending_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
 sending_lc.send(_myConnections, setMedia, Hello World);
}

play_button.onRelease = Delegate.create(this, this.sendMessage)

// reciever swf

import mx.utils.Delegate;

function setMedia(msg:String) {
trace(Receiver ::: setMedia);
trace(msg);
// make sure there's a textfield on stage called message_txt
this.message_txt.text += msg+\n;
}

var receiving_lc:LocalConnection = new LocalConnection();
receiving_lc.setMedia = Delegate.create(this, this.setMedia);
receiving_lc.connect(_myConnections);

Start by running both swf's in the IDE, so you can see the trace output.
Once you got that working, try in a browser and see if the output is displayed
in the textfield.
