Re: [Flashcoders] How to read variables from file into an array.

2007-03-07 Thread Ian Thomas

Steve,
Take a look at the LoadVars.onData() function.

Essentially it gets called with the raw string of the text file
before LoadVars.onLoad is called. onData's default behaviour is to do
exactly what you discuss - splitting it up using the ampersands and
URL encoding. Instead, you can make it do what you like - split the
text on newlines and stuff it into an array, or whatever.

Hope that's helpful,
   Ian

You should be using XML for this.
It will handle larger more complex data structures.

Re: [Flashcoders] Bitmaps and Security

2007-03-07 Thread Jobe Makar

Hi Patrick,

I'm interested to hear what others have to say about this as well. I too
have encountered this. If you have the Flash 9 player installed (even though
its a Flash 8 app) and you're using a crossdomain file, then it works.
However, if you only use the Flash 8 player view this app then it fails.

I had an idea of something else to try, but I didn't attempt it. Here is the
idea:

- put a tiny swf on that image server. tiny.swf
- load tiny.swf into app.swf
- tiny.swf does a security.allowDomain call to give its parent access

That alone might do the trick. If not, then take it a step further. Have
tiny.swf give app.swf security access, then tiny.swf actually does the
bitmap loading and passes the bitmap data to app.swf.

Stuff like this is a pain to test but I bet one of those will work. Please
let me know if you try one and it works.

Subject: [Flashcoders] Bitmaps and Security

Hello,

I have a small problem. We're using some bitmap functions inside flash
that scale thumbnails so appear to be smoothed out instead of jagged
edges. However, we're changing our back-end systems to be stateless and
our flash files and our images will be on different servers. Of course,
if you have had any dealings with cross domain image loading and bitmap
processing, you probably know what i am up against (images appear white
because of security restrictions when trying to apply bitmap processing)

Is it possible by a cross domain policy or other means to load the images
from different servers where your flash swf files remain and then apply
effects. I know it is possible with a php proxy, but that's computer
processor expensive. Since our sub-domains are all the same, there should
be a way to bypass this security.

Thanks for your time,
Patrick

[Flashcoders] Japanese text

2007-03-07 Thread Danny Kodicek
I've discovered a strange issue.

1) Create an input field, with Japanese text embedded
2) In the input field, write some Japanese text
3) Publish the movie: the input field appears with the correct text, and is
editable in Japanese.

Now repeat, but in step 2, add a western character, say the letter A. This
time the Japanese text displays as boxes, and so does any Japanese text you
enter.

Anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

in around flash 4 you would have used a combination of string parsing
functions like my_string.split() but an xml file is the answer now.

i do understand that text parsing is still something you have to do

[Flashcoders] audio sampler and sequencer - possible?

2007-03-07 Thread lemondrop
Hi list,

I'm trying to figure out whether Flash is the right tool for the job. Does
anyone have any thoughts on the following?

For my project, I need a web-based audio sampler and sequencer. It needs to
play custom samples (i.e. not General MIDI sounds). I also need the ability
to create sequences of notes and play them back with decent time accuracy.
Ideally, I would be able to use a standard format such as Soundfont for the
sounds (instead of, say, having to have many individual sound files, one for
each pitch).

Thanks a lot for any pointers you may have!

[Flashcoders] Mouse event handlers

2007-03-07 Thread Darren Bowers

Hi all,

I have a grid of mc's arranged in a square. When you click on any one of the
mc's the mc changes appearance (ie inactive to active, active to inactive) -
pretty simple.

I am trying to create a group of handlers that detect if the mouse is held
down and wiped across the other mc's. If it is, it changes the state of
any mc's it rolls over.

Problem is, when the onPress handler is invoked, it seems to ignore any
other handlers (onRollOver/onRollOut). I have tried combinations or
onMouseUp/Down and setting flags, but if I cant get the onRollOver/Out
handlers firing, I cant seem to detect whether the mouse is over the next mc
while the mouse is down.

This is getting frustrating - any ideas?

RE: [Flashcoders] Flash / Flex specific search engine

2007-03-07 Thread Dave Watts
Trying to figure out what this is - what does Flash / Flex
specific search engine mean? I went to the site, but still
not sure how this different from a regular search engine
(other than that is has far far less contents/links from
 search results).

It's a filtered Google Co-op search:

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash / Flex specific search engine

2007-03-07 Thread Mick G

So this is just using google search API and all it is is just a search
engine that searches specific sites you've determined to be flash/flex
specific?

Is there anything particularly special about it?
