RE: [Flashcoders] Flash project FLP files are useless
Yeah, I use it all the time to organize my projects. We also have MS Visual Sourcesafe and it work very nicely for versioning! In fact I like how it works for versioning much better than Dreamweaver. Dreamweaver's versioning code is really buggy! > Have anyone found any use of Flash Projects feature/panel? It provides a nifty bird's eye view of the relevant files for me, and is easy to show/hide, since the shortcut key combination is the same for similar panels in other Macromedia products. It also helps me with folder organization for projects utilizing several dozen movies. I tuck the FLAs and classes away in one (or more) folder(s), and publish them (all at once) to another folder. Basically, it smooths my workflow - especially since I typically collaborate with several other developers, by not having a folder that contains _everything_ simply for the sake of convenience. This takes a lot of the guesswork out of things for my co-workers when they have to delve into my stuff, because the only file in my main project folder is usually the FLP. The FLP then very clearly signals which file is the main one for them to open, and my folders further indicate various parts. I don' use it for version control, but I can sympathize. I wish it kept track of files in a realtaive manner, so that if you move an entire project folder, including FLP, everything is not considered "missing". - pixelTwiddler, a.k.a. Re: [Flashcoders] Flash project FLP files are useless
Use it all the time. Gives me a quick overview of all classes and how things are structured, which is handy when opening a project after a few months. Allows me to have access to files easily, without having to browse for them. That includes classes (as), coldfusion components (cfc), xml, etc.. Allows for easy compiling using CTRL+P. Guess it depends on your workflow and whether you use classes alot, which I do. I hate switching between IDE's. regards, Muzak - Original Message - From: "Gregory_GOusable" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Flashcoders mailing list" Sent: Tuesday, November 01, 2005 6:46 AM Subject: [Flashcoders] Flash project FLP files are useless > Hello Flashcoders, > > From time to time I'm trying to find improvements for work process > ;-) > So, I tried Flash Projects feature/panel of MX 2004 Pro. > And... found it useless: > - to use version-control, one need MS Visual SourceSafe Client > version 6 installed. And... found it useless: - to use version-control, one need MS Visual SourceSafe Client version 6 installed. Besides, it doesn't make sense if you work alone. - to "manage" projects, I don't need it either. I use SciTE/Flash for editing .as files and Flash authoring only for drawing and assembling the swf. In fact, now I use "#include file_name" or ext. classes instead of "all_code_in_one_frame" approach even for small projects. Question: Have anyone found any use of Flash Projects feature/panel? Maybe in Flash 8? Of course, excluding version control for workgroups. Thanks. -- Best regards, Gregory_GOusable http://GOusable.com Flash components development.
