[Flashcoders] Incorporating Flash Module into HTML site

2007-03-01 Thread Phil Dupré

Greetings,

I have a mini flash web site that I would like to import into a dedicated
area within an HTML site as a SWF file. This SWF file will essentially work
like a general web site. It has a navigation menu with buttons and
sub-buttons. The sub-buttons load swf files and or movie clips within the
main swf file.

My question is can this mini flash web site work without any issues if is
imported into an HTML site? Or are there limitations to viewing Flash
within HTML web sites?

About the HTML site:
Outside of hosting the mini-flash web site, the HTML site serves as a
dashboard for information/content. It aggregates a calendar that's coming
from Microsoft Outlook. It also shows a list of links to other web sites.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Kind regards,

Phil

Interesting topic.

I've looked through the VEGAS (http://vegas.riaforge.org/) framework but
I couldn't find what I'm looking for.

Can anyone recommend such a structure?

thanks,

[Flashcoders] RSS Reader Component for Flash

2007-03-06 Thread Phil Dupré

I'm looking for a RSS Reader component that can syndicate the first couple
of sentences from web pages elsewhere, which will be text from a blog for
example. Ideally, I'd like the feeder to display quick links and a few
sentences of content in a similar manner as www.popurl.com.

Anyone reccommend any good components or suggestions for an alternative? I
noticed this on flashloaded, but I'm not totally sold on it.

Hello flash developers,

I have a few projects that needs some scripting.

One is a very simple, 80's type game.
The other is a randomizer that generates art elements.

If this sounds interesting, please email me back with how much your hourly
rate is and links to any games or API's you've developed. Thanks a lot.

Re: [Flashcoders] Flash CS3 Announced

2007-04-01 Thread Phil Dupré

Hello,

I would like to create an application that lets the user select 2 properties
from a list of options, which will then output an image displaying those two
properties together. To be more specific, I want the user to first see a
question saying, make a flag. choose up to two elements for your flag.
the list will include about 10 elements including stars, stripes, circles,
squares, etc. After the user selects two elements, then a flag will appear
displaying those two elements.

Does any one know how to do something like this or where I might find a
tutorial? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

[Flashcoders] Flash Minds Get together in Bay Area

2007-04-20 Thread Phil Dupré

Hello flashcoders,

I'd like to see if any fellow flashcoders from the Bay Area would like
to get together in the real world for a meetup. Perhaps we could meet
in San Francisco and actually see the faces behind the email
addresses. Let me know who is interested and feel free to suggest any
ideas of where to meet and what day would be good.

do it through the code? If through the code are there any snippets somewhere

Despite the fact that this is likely an old topic, I cannot find much

I have used AS3's Socket class to connect Flash to a server (written in
C++), which perform operations on MySQL. I think you could connect Flash
to Oracle in this way.

Like this:

Flash(AS3) (socket)-- Java -- Oracle

So if I'm making the flash application in AS3, how difficult would it be to
let it talk to the Oracle db? Do you think you'd be available for this
integration?

Sure. Java has an easy to use Socket class:

This method is a general solution, it can be used on any
database. You just write a database operation layer in Java,
which listens to a socket, receives commands from Flash, and
performs query on Oracle.

This method is very suitable for Flash, because usually
Flash works on remote site (i.e. its users are away from
the database).

[Flashcoders] Special Print Feature question

2007-08-03 Thread Phil Dupré
I have a map that has been entirely created in Flash. The Flash map will
display through a SWF Object in an HTML page. The area that the map will
play is smaller than the size of the actual map.

I would like to allow users to print the map and be able to print the entire
view (not just the limited view on the html page). Anyone know how I might
be able to do something like this? Thanks.
