RE: [flexcoders] FDS: implementing push
Hi, I tried to set up a Jrun Server, called Flex to use the FDS. It is at http://127.0.0.1:8301. I unziped the flex.war,samples.war,flex-admin.war, and put them in: /Applications/JRun4/servers/Flex/default-ear/default-war but I get an error, which you can see at: http://www.johnbarrett.net/blog/index.cfm/2006/5/12/Flex-FDS-Troubles Basically I am trying to set up the environmet so flex anf coldfusion can work together. The last time I tried I broke coldfusion, and I thought that I would try this way, but it did not work. Been having a really hard time trying to set this up,and was wondering if you could offer any help with setting up a flex server? Is this the way one should set this up? [flexcoders] F2B3: Disable sorting datagrid headerRelease?
Another comment on datagrid sorting... ;) In Flex 1.5, there was a DataGridColumn property sortOnHeaderRelease. All our sorting is done during the server side call, with paging, so we don't want to use the default array collection sorting. So we could set sortOnHeaderRelease to false and use the headerRelease event to perform our remote paging calls. But in Flex 2, this property has disappeared. I havent' found any workaround yet. Is it possible to have a headerRelease event but without any client side sorting performed on the datagrid? We need to keep all the sorting logic on the server side. Those have already cf-dataservice-rmtp , cfeventgateway, cf-pooling-amf and cf-amf enabled. The web.xml is important since it configures all mappings for the messageBroker. when you apply the cf-connectivity updater, it updates for the "/flex2gateway/" but for for FDS you'll need other mappings. Re: [flexcoders] Problem with calling a CFC from Flex 2 Beta 3.
Depending on how you are compiling the setup is a bit different. For instance in beta3 I think you can start project and specify that its a ColdFusion remoting application. What this does for you is set thet -services compiler directive. With earlier betas (and possibly if you picked the wrong project on b3) in the properties for the project you can add a line for compiler that is the path to the flex-enterprise-services.xml that is in your cf that has been updated with Mystic. it would look something like-services=c:\cfmx7\wwwroot\WEB-INF\flex\flex-enterprise-services.xmlIf you are using the command line compiler or Ant you will also need to pass in that same config options but a bit differently. [flexcoders] Lazy Initialization Exceptions
We use Flex with a Java back end, and an O/R framework. Our Java classes naturally contain properties which are relationships to other classes - either one to many or many to one. Due to the fact that these relationships are so intertwined, many given objects end up referencing a large portion of the database if one were to recursively follow all of the nested relationships. As such, we desire to have the option of not loading certain relationships when the data is not needed. We use EJB 3.0 (JBoss implementation using Hibernate) as our O/R framework for object persistence. It allows the option of uninitialized collections and other referenced objects. But it keeps it's eye on those uninitialized objects in case you access them. It will load them at that time. The Flex process of serialization to AMF causes serious problems for this design. Since Flex tries to touch all of these properties while building the binary representation for sending over the wire, it triggers the immediate attempt to initialize any objects which are still in the uninitialized state. This causes the LazyInitializationException to be thrown by the O/R framework - because the transaction is already closed (which effectively means the call to the DAO has returned). The community only offers two suggestions, both which do not work with Flex (or Flash Remoting for that matter). The first is simply initializing everything ahead of time. This does not work because eventually you have to draw the line somewhere, and the Flex serialization routines will find that line and try to cross it. The second is the open session in view pattern, meaning that we open the transaction as soon as the Flex client makes a request, and close it only when the last response has been made. This does not work either, because Flex would end up initializing everything during serialization - which is what we're trying to avoid in the name of performance and efficiency. I have gone to the extent to writing a custom aspect to intercept returning calls from my DAO and null out the Hibernate proxies. This worked until I tried to use it for uninitialized many to one relationships. Nulling them out actually deletes my relationship in the database! Carbon Five wrote a utility for Flash Remoting which would create ASObjects as return values from a Java application. They implemented a concept of adding certain properties to an ignore list. This solved our problem when we used Flash Remoting, but was very cumbersome to use. This ignore list had to be built by hand in each function. Later Flash Remoting was improved seemingly by adding ASTranslator to the product, which lessened the need for this third party library, but working with the ignore list was not exposed. The only good solution I see is to add intelligence to the Flex serialization techniques which watch for the scenario of uninitialized arrays and object which come from relationships, and avoid triggering the lazy initialization. Maybe Adobe would consider helping out with this? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com SPONSORED LINKS Web site design development Computer software development Software design and development Macromedia flex Software development best practice YAHOO! Did anyone read the "OpenGL Mobile Devices" article in Dr. Dobb's Journal, Page 30, June 2006 (www.ddj.com)?I'm really focused on the client side with FLEX for the long-long-term and I want ADOBE to be able to compete and lead over Mickeysoft in their Sparkle Effort.Of course DirectX is very powerful and Sparkle is great on Windows. RE: [flexcoders] TextInput and masking
TextInput has a 'restrict' property that lets you specify the set of characters that can be typed. But it doesn't have masking support, such as NNN-NN- for entering a social security number. To implement masking, you'd need to handle the textInput event. If you call event.preventDefault() in your handler, you can prevent the text from being entered. Here's a quick-and-dirty example of SSN masking. It ensures that the first three characters you type must be a digit, the next must be a hyphen, etc. It doesn't do the right thing if you move the insertion point or select text and then type. - Gordon ?xml version=1.0 encoding=utf-8? mx:Application xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml mx:Script ![CDATA[ private var masks:Array = [ null, new RegExp(\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\-), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\-\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\d), new RegExp(\\d\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\-\\d\\d\\d\\d) ]; private function textInputHandler(event:TextEvent):void { var newText:String = ssn.text + event.text; var mask:RegExp = masks[newText.length]; if (!mask || !mask.test(newText)) event.preventDefault(); } ]] /mx:Script mx:TextInput id=ssn textInput=textInputHandler(event)/ /mx:Application - Gordon -Original Message- From: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of sof4real03 Sent: Saturday, May 13, 2006 8:44 AM To: flexcoders@yahoogroups.com Subject: [flexcoders] TextInput and masking Is there a simple way of enabling a text input mask on the control or do you need to write a custom component to extend the features available with the textInput? -- Flexcoders Mailing List FAQ: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/flexcoders/files/flexcodersFAQ.txt Search Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexcoders%40yahoogroups.com Yahoo! Re: [flexcoders] Developers Derby - Question for Adobe
Does Flex require installing Flash Pro? No, but you might want to have Flash around for writing other SWFs that can be loaded into Flex Can Flex run on a machine that does not have Flash? Flash the player or Flash the development environment? Technically yes, you can install Flex and run Builder on a machine that does not have Flash player or IDE, but you won't be able to view your applications without the player. Flex 2 Beta 3 applications only run in the latest Flash 9 beta player. Flex does not require the Flash IDE be installed at all. Hello Mahmoud, No, Flex doesnt require Flash Pro (Flash IDE). You can compile / develop using Flex SDK (free) or using FlexBuilder 2 and you will only be able to run Flex application on machines that have flash player. Re: [flexcoders] F2B3: Disable sorting datagrid headerRelease?

[flexcoders] Re: Cairngorm ServiceLocator and AMFPHP
Heck, I impressed myself creating the RemoteObjectAMF0. There is still some code I wish I new how to do. It works nice in a Cairngorm setup. Its actually a general AMF0 RemoteObject so it can work with ColdFusion (/flashservices/gateway), AMFPHP, OpenAMF etc... I believe we will be waiting for a while before AMF3 stuff works it self out. With the ColdFusion/Flex connectivity and the FDS its not worth it for Adobe to further develop on the older AMF format. AMF3 offers so much more than AMF0, but in the end people will want Open Source avenues to use instead of buying ColdFusion or FDS.
