[flexcoders] Flash player vs Vista: security issues?

2008-06-06 Thread Lorenzo Benvenuti
Hi,

has someone experienced issues using FileReference.download on Vista?
A customer is unable to download files from our app. Actually he can't
open the browser window that allows to choose the destination of the
file: it's like the OS is denying the access to the file system.
Everything works fine for other customers using other operating systems;
this is the first one using MS Vista. I've never used Vista, nor do I
have a pc with Vista installed to try to reproduce the issue.
I searched Google and the only interesting thing I found is about the
protected mode of IE7 in Vista. It sounds like IE (and all the ActiveX
controls) are run with partial privileges even if you log into the
system as an admin.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thank you.

Lorenzo

[flexcoders] ViewStack/TabNavigator bug?

2007-05-30 Thread Lorenzo Benvenuti
Hi everyone,

I'm facing an unexpected behaviour of a TabNavigator that I think
(watching the Flex framework sources) can be applied to the ViewStack
too. Don't know if it's a bug, but any help is appreciated. I have a
TabNavigator containing a few children. Every children has a DataGrid
whose columns dataField, headerText, width and itemEditor are determined
depending on the result of a server call. So I created the DataGrids
without specifying the columns and tried to set this property using
ActionScript, at runtime. I've set creationPolicy=all so I can set all
the columns with one call. Everything goes fine for the first tab (the
visible one), but the others show columns with wrong widths: all the
column but the last have a very small width, while the last one is very
large.
Looking at the DataGrid code and using some trace statements I think I
discovered what's happening: the hidden tabs (whose children instances
are correctly alive) have 0 width and 0 height. The updateDisplayList
method of DataGrid instances finds that the DataGridColumns have an
owner, but this owner is too little to fit the columns... so they are
resized. When a tab becomes visible (though it doesn't dispatch the
visible event!) the grid is resized and the last column becomes very large.
The same happens if I create an empty TabNavigator and add the children
at runtime with the addChild method.
So: is it right that the freshly created children of a TabNavigator have
0 width and 0 height? Shouldn't they have the same width and height of
the visible tab even if hidden?
A possible workaround could be trying to listen for changes of the
TabNavigator selectedIndex proeprty, but I have many forms with this
kind of layout so I'd prefer to manage this strange behaviour working on
the children. I created a DataGrid subclass who tries to set the columns
at the right time, but the tab switching doesn't cause a event fire in
the children (I expected a visible event, for instance)... so I can't
find that right time.
What do you think?

Thank you.

Regards,

Lorenzo

Yes... but I actually think that the DataGrid does nothing wrong: it
tries to fit the columns in the available width. Unfortunately that
width differs from what I expected it to be.

RE: [flexcoders] Modules: mxml and as are compiled in different ways?

2007-01-31 Thread Lorenzo Benvenuti
But aren't they both AS classes? I mean, I've extended classes defined
via mxml using actionscript in other places and everything works fine. I
guess it doesn't work with modules since the class I'm going to compile
has the as extension, and this does not link the right classes into the
bytecode. Anyway now my application works, and I found out how to
implement an interface in an mxml file (actually it wasn't so difficult,
I come from flex 1.5 and I didn't know this feature).

Thank you,

lorenzo

 Hello everybody,

I've just faced an issue and I'd like to know if it's a bug or a known
 feature.
I've got to develop a MDI-like application and I'm playing with modules.
So I defined various as (pay attention here, I mean .as files) classes
extending the mx.modules.Module class and compiled them as modules. Each of
these classes references some TitleWindow subclasses which I try to open from
the main application. Well, nothing works: I've got different errors
(depending on the window I try to open) about null values in graphical
properties. I changed my modules classes to .mxml classes (I mean .mxml
files), keeping the mx.modules.Module as the parent class, and everything
seems to work. Summarizing, I try to compile as modules these files:

 - MyModule.as

 class MyModule extends Module {
 /* This DOESN'T WORK */
 }

 - MyModule.mxml

 mx:Module xmlns:mx=http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml;
 !-- WORKS! --
 /mx:Module

What's this? Can't I extend an mxml class using an as file? I don't think so,
since I've used this technique in other cases and evrything went smooth. I
suppose it is an issue of the file I'm going to compile.
If so, can't I force the compiler to handle an as file like an mxml one?
I need this since I'd like my Module subclass to implement a certain
 interface.

 Thank you.

 Lorenzo

[flexcoders] Aligning background images

2005-09-28 Thread Lorenzo Benvenuti
Hi All,

I'm in troubles while trying to assign background images to my
application. Suppose I have three horizontal areas: a header, a working
area and a footer. The header and the footer have fixed height, the
working area height should fill the remaining space depending on the
browser window size. Widths are not determined. For each area I have a
overdimensioned background image which should be anchored to the top
left corner when the user resizes the browser window. If I use the
backgroundImage attribute I obtain center-aligned images: is there any
way to left align a background image? If not, I think I could use
canvases to embed images into my applictions, but I cannot make the
working area behave in the correct way when resizing the window. Any
idea?

Regards,

Lorenzo

Thanks for your suggestion , but I'd prefer to use your fix only as a
