Because, in theory, GMail doesn't count as work and this account does (yes, I
know they do IMAP now so I could use it with KMail, but I can only send
outbound SMTP via our mail server, which is what adds the footer).

It's not an argument I want to have with IT.

This is one of the most fun I have had on flexcoders in a long time.
I am on the floor rolling around and laughing so hard. (I have long arms
for typing)

Gmail does help with a lot of the issues, that is why I changed to a
gmail account a while back for my group emails. I also switched to
Thunderbird, because it had some straight forward threading options.

Anyway, keep up the funny comments. I loved them.

LMAO, you're like the William Wallace of flexcoders. That was
hilarious. I work for a large financial services company so we are
under all sorts of regulations concerning logging and retention of all
communications, electronic and otherwise. So its part company policy,
part federal law.

An OT comment to an OT post but I do wonder why people who are forced to ad
those inane

Maybe I good. But Tom Chiverton long disclaimer doesn't return any
results ;-). Perhaps it would help if at the bottom of it you at least
added "Please trim this disclaimer when replying to FlexCoders posts."

Questioning a persons use of a feature of this site because you don't see the

I think the point to the 100+ emails is you can quickly scan the
subjects for what might be of interest. And if you have threading
enabled in your mail client then it's much easier to follow up on
threads that are of interest to you. I tried digest for a while and on
a list with this much traffic it's too difficult to keep up with things
that way. The messages took a long time to download and took too long
for me to scan for relevant info. But back on the off topic, it doesn't
bother me a lot if now and then there is stuff that should have been
trimmed, but those extreme examples seem to be occurring more an more.
it takes but a moment to edit your message, let's all join together in
harmony to accomplish the goal of lessening the bandwidth required to
run this list. let's save some trees, I mean bandwidth.

This is actually a major pet peeve of mine and I find it frustrating to see
people post small
messages that have multiple copies of the Yahoo Groups footer, large corporate
confidentiality sigs, extraneous material or all of the above in some
combination.

My favourites are posts that have 1 line of original content and multiple lines
of
unnecessary material. I think the worst I have seen so far is 250+ lines of
quoted material
to one line of new content.

I think that people should take the time to trim their posts and make it so
that it is easy to
parse through their message. Especially on a list that gets this much traffic.

It doesn't help though that so many email clients make top posting a default
(or only)
option for replies and don't make it easy to single out a section to reply to.

> OOI why do you use the digest ?

Its easier to browse through a single mail message than it is to read 100+
emails.

In any case its not relevant :-) Its a fairly popular option for Yahoo Groups
and people not
taking the time to trim their posts makes it a nightmare to read.
