[flexcoders] Re: Windows Vista & Flex

2007-02-24 Thread coderjun
Bryan,

I upgraded my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop from Windows XP to Windows Vista
Business. First I tried the normal upgrade process, but my laptop was
so cluttered and slow that I ended up running the "clean" upgrade.

Anyway, in regard to Flex Builder 2.0.1, I use the Standalone version
every day, it's running just fine on Vista since about the beginning of
February. (Or should I say no worse than it did on Windows XP ;-) Two
things that I did notice during the upgrade to Vista:

1. The first time I tried to open Flex Builder I received an
eclipse/java error with an "OK" button. (Sorry, I forgot to document
the exact error message) Once you click "OK" you can't open Flex
Builder. This fix for this was found in the Adobe install
documentation:

"Windows Vista users - The first time you run Flex Builder 2, you must
"Run as Admin", after which you can run it normally. To run as Admin,
right click the Flex Builder 2 launch icon in the Start Menu, and select
"Run as Admin"."
http://www.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flex/2/install.html

2. When you run the upgrade and fix the issue above, if your workspace
is in your user profile directory - for instance "My Documents" - the
first time Flex Builder opens you will get a blank project navigator
view in the workspace. This is because Vista no longer stores user
profiles in C:\Documents and Settings but instead in C:\Users.
Although some shortcuts are made during the upgrade process to emulate
the old paths, the security perms are jacked. So you can fix this issue
simply by opening your workspace from the new location at C:\Users using
the Switch Workspace from the File menu in Flex Builder.

[flexcoders] Re: Windows Vista & Flex

2007-02-17 Thread wesubotnix
My collegue tried to install eclipse and the flexbuilder plugin on a
vista machine and recieived an error. When looking into the error log
we found that a library couldnĀ“t be found. The error log looked like
something we found described by Michael Simpson (2007-01-16 12:29:11),
at this page:
http://www.easyeclipse.org/site/distributions/cplusplus.html.
It has nothing (?) to do with Flex, but seems more like a eclipse/java
problemwhen trying to collaborate with vista.

/Fredrik Sandberg

2007-02-16 Thread Ketan Bengali

Flex Builder works great on my laptop with Vista Premium installed. Till
date I have not faced any problems
with Flex Builder. I do have 2 gigs of RAM.

I know this group is for Flex discussions but since this was related to
Windows Vista also I have a non Flex question. Does anyone tried installing
Apache ? I would like to hear your experiences on this.
I could not install Apache on Vista. I installed XAMPP later.

Re: [flexcoders] Re: Windows Vista & Flex

2007-02-16 Thread Mitch Grasso
I have a clean install of Vista Ultimate. The only problem I have had with Flex
Builder is that I get dumped into Windows Vista Basic Color Scheme when I
launch any designer pages. Since the Aero look is pretty much the only neat
thing I have found with Vista, it does make the upgrade somewhat worthless
(unless you care about UAC - which i promptly turned off).

Additionally, I am experiencing memory parity bluescreens with Vista
occasionally. This is probably related to some additional RAM I added prior to
the install, but it has been a looong time since I had a PC bluescreen.

Hi Bryan,

I'm not sure if this will help me, but I would be interested to see

the Eclipse log file. The log is \.metadata\ .log.
