I followed the steps in Bob's paper exactly through figure 12. MixW receives ok. On Transmit. the power level fluctuates between 0 and 20 watts. I have the TX gain set at 2 and the mike gain set at zero, power set at 20 watts. If I increase the mike gain, the power output increases but still fluctuates. When I set the TX gain at 1, it fluctuates between 0 and 17 watts. The fluctuation can be described as 1 sec on and 0.1 sec zero power. Measured with external watt meter. I have observed this fluxuation also. Try regular RTTY. If that is solid in terms of output, PSK usually is OK in terms of communication. I can't prove it, but the fluxuation appears to be associated with the space character (ASCII code point 32). Also, check to make sure none of the compression or compander settings are enabled. I have had much more success with version 1.4.1 and MixW because there was a lot less going on in terms of SSB improvements! By 1.4.5 preview 7, the digital version of SSB should eliminate these problems, but I simply haven't tried it yet. I would check and see if MixW's use of CAT somehow took it out of the digital SSB settings, which you should be using before bringing it up. Don't know how MixW could take the SDR out of that, but getting all those compression/compander things shut off was what kept me on 1.4.1 before preview 7. Larry WO0Z PS, if you get it working as far as this note advises, ask someone how broad your signal is. Mine works (albeit I don't fully understand it), but it seems to put out a low grade hash of some sort with a total signal bandwidth of maybe 500 to 700 Hz. I don't know why this is. I may have the Mic gain too high still. I had to reduce MIC to 33 to get this far. There is a setting for MixW's audio output you may need to fuss with. I have not.
Re: [Flexradio] Beginner Needs Help
Charles, If you are having power fluctuations, the first thing to check is that the audio driving the hardware sounds correct. Try turning on the monitor (MON button on top left section of front panel). This will play the transmit audio through your speakers. Does it have audible glitches? If so, then this is the source of your fluctuations. You can try moving the buffer sizes on the SetupForm - Audio and - DSP tabs to try to improve things. In general, set the VAC card to 512, set the regular card to 2048 and DSP to 2048. Make sure the Delta 44 is set to 512 DMA buffer size (on the Delta Control panel - Hardware Settings tab -- pull this up from the lower right taskbar). If the audio sounds fine, then the power fluctuations are coming from the hardware itself (or the metering method). I'm not sure what in the hardware could cause this, but we can cross that bridge when we get there. Let us know what you find. Charles, Once you verify the items Eric suggested, feel free to contact me off list. I have MixW 2.16 (no beta) running very well with PowerSDR 1.4.5p7 using VAC, VCOM and the Delta 44 sound card. I'm doing CW (keyboard) and all ASFK modes. Tnx to all who responded. I will check the things suggested and report back in a couple of days. Tim, I am using the setup you are except I am using the Firebox sound system. 73, Chas W1CG At 11:44 AM 12/21/2005, you wrote: Charles, Once you verify the items Eric suggested, feel free to contact me off list.
