Perhaps, Jim. However, I believe that my problem has to do with the number of concurrently playing sounds and plib being able to open up a "channel" to output sound on. I think this because if I stop all other applications before starting FG, it will work just fine. Otherwise, (if I have Winamp playing, for instance) it gives me an error that I can't remember while here at work. Anyway, it stems from the slDSP::open code:
result = waveOutOpen( hWaveOut, WAVE_MAPPER, Format, 0, 0L, WAVE_FORMAT_QUERY );
That fails some way that I can't remember, but it's not an 8-bit problem. Also, for reference, I have an ASUS A7V333 with the C-Media 8738 audio chip, running WinXP/Cygwin. If anyone happens to know how to fix this problem, feel free to let me know. Thanks...

It is "officially" supported, however,we're still talking about a major architecture change here, but in my ownhumble opinion I think it would be for the better. SDL is actually activelydeveloped, and I have a problem with sound and plib (although its my crappybuiltin sound, not plibs fault =)Actually it is a problem with plib's sound support. A large number ofmotherboards come with those "crappy" sound cards that don't support 8bitsound and they work well enough with other libraries. It's been a while sinceI looked at that...maybe someone else can fill in the details or correct me(on the plib list?).Best,Jim___Flightgear-devel mailing
