I agree.

I'm surprised that a group of people went to this much trouble to produce a
commercial to say something about that other flight sim. Was this made
using scenes from an actual film and overdubbed audio/subtitles? I got a
laugh out of it, too.

It's from the German film Der Untergang (The Downfall) describing the

Is there anywhere a list of work in progress just to avoid duplicates ?
Note that it's no big issue for the Hornet as I made it for another sim anyway
;)

And to answer the question, I want to release the models with a license that
would prevent any commercial or military use.

I think Creative Commons can do that but if you know anything else better ...

IIRC there's a list on the wiki of the work required for each aircraft.
You could make a note there.

And to answer the question, I want to release the models with a license

I don't think it can go into CVS unless it is GPL. If it isn't in CVS,
integration with the CVS FDMs etc. will be a pain.

I think it would be a great shame for such lovely looking models not to be
part of the base package, so I implore you to GPL them.

Even if there were, the best advice would be to ignore it. :)

This is a volunteer project done (mostly) for the enjoyment of the
developers, and as such many of the subprojects that are announced
here end up abandoned or stillborn. Just do your best, try not to
blatantly step on anyone's toes, let people know what you are doing,
and don't worry too much about duplicated work. Think of it as a
darwinian development model: the fittest work survives.

I want to release the models with a license that would prevent any
  commercial or military use.

I think Creative Commons can do that but if you know anything else

Note that this will preclude shipping it with FlightGear, which is
released under the GNU GPL. See the COPYING file in your data
directory to see if those terms are acceptable to you. If not, you
will have to distribute the files yourself, unfortunately.

FWIW, the Creative Commons license (like the GPL) does not prohibit
any particular users of the work either. It only covers the
restrictions that the recipient can place upon further distribution.

Don't get me wrong,

I don't want to put a lot of restrictions to the right to distribute and
modify. In that sense GPL or OpenSource type of licence suit me.

I just do not want people to make money out of my work (except maybe for the
*cost* of the media used to distribute), when I am not asking for any money.
Commercial software is OK for me, but if I want to go down that path, I'll set
up my own company. Also I do not want this work, that I do for entertainment,
to be used for Real Life (TM) military purposes. The latter is a moral position.

If that means I'll have to make a separate package, so be it. But I am still
willing to distribute for the community to enjoy AND tweak at their will as
long as those two choices are respected.

[Flightgear-devel] up-to-date-version for windows?

2006-09-29 Thread Carsten Vogel
Dear Group!

Few weeks ago I started again using FlightGear. My first excitement is
done now, still I want to stay with the community as player but also
as developer (in my small terms, e.g. blendermodels).
The main problem I face is, that although there are constantly done
changes, bug-fixes and add-ons, I am bound to windows on my powerful
computer and want/have to use it for FlightGear.

My question is: Does anybody know/has done/has an idea of using CVS
under Microsoft(tm) Win(tm)do(w)(tm) XP(tm)?

Thx in advance,
Yours Carsten

Hi,

compiled windows executables of the actual cvs you can find on
 ftp://ftp.ihg.uni-duisburg.de/FlightGear/Win32/

You can compile flightgear e.g. with msvc-express, there is a link at
http://wiki.flightgear.org/
to a step by step instruction by olaf flebbe:

Well, you cannot prevent others from making money out of your work if you
licensed your work under GPL. What you can do though, is make life extremely
difficult for them. This is one of the reasons why my models are in pieces.
You can bring this a step further by using multiple modelling formats.
Essentially, this means your models would only work with FlightGear.

Also I do not want this work, that I do
