[Flightgear-devel] Bug cleaning week: July, 9th - July 16th

2011-07-09 Thread Torsten Dreyer
Hi,

one week to go, before we create the release-branch for 2.4.0.
We still have some 80 bugs in out bug tracker at
http://code.google.com/p/flightgear-bugs/issues/list

I'd really love to get this number significantly down before we branch.

Please browse to
http://code.google.com/p/flightgear-bugs/issues/list
(ignore the 500 error message and hit reload - google is buggy here)
and scroll down to any bug that hits an area of your interest.
The easiest way to help is by picking one of the Stalled bugs and simply
verify if the reported malfunction still exist.
Those, who can log into Google's services are welcome to place a comment and
change the status to Accepted again or even close the issue with Fixed.

If you can't log on or don't want to mess with the tracker, any feedback
referring to a bug-id on this list is welcome.

We can accept a mouse in our cockpit, but we certainly don't want any bugs!

Thanks for reading,

Torsten

bo105: make sim reset work when helicopter crashed
On sim reset properly uncrash the airframe and do not install
 listeners again.

The bo105 is maintained by *me*, and nobody is allowed to make commits
other than adaptations to changes in the api or framework -- let's say,
someone renames setlistener to set_listener, in which case an adaptation
would be mandatory.

This is not my invention, but was handled that way ever since I came
to FlightGear in 2001, and this is also standard procedure in other
projects.

Patches with explanations shall be submitted to the maintainer, even
by core developers.

[Flightgear-devel] Screenshot F3 feature (partially) broken?

2011-07-09 Thread David Van Mosselbeen

Hi all,

Is the screenshot F3 feature (partially) broken? I'm not using multi
thread either. When pressing the F3 button i'm getting the error Error
writting screenshot ... [1] But the screenshot is been made (if file
doesn't exist) in my home directory. Also, it doesn't check if file is
present, but that's some other feature.

On the console i get the following error:

Nasal runtime error: non-scalar in string context
  at /home/dvanmosselbeen/local/fgfs/install/fgfs/fgdata/Nasal/gui.nas,
line 1262

Iirc, this started to happen after that new feature/check has been
implemented a few time ago.

[1] See that error on the image:

Thanks for all the fish,
Kind regards,
David Van Mosselbeen (itchi)

Hi David,

I went to have a look at that location myself (ebgb) but couldn't see
the cooling towers you show. Are these
some custom scenery, and if so, can you post the .btg file so I can
try to repro?

One thought is that this might be a shader problem. Are you seeing any
error messages on the console, and what graphics card are you using?

[Flightgear-devel] Minor GUI layout improvements

2011-07-09 Thread Stuart Buchanan
Hi All,

I've just done a pass over the GUI making minor changes to clean it up
and make it consistent.

There are a couple of slightly more significant layout changes I'd
like to make, but want to discuss first.

1) Currently there is a wireframe option on the Rendering menu. While
it's of moderate interest to developers, I don't think it's really of
any interest to the average user. I'd like to move this option to the
Debug menu.

2) As it stands, it's very difficult for a new user to understand the
difference between Local Weather and Global Weather. let alone how
they inter-relate. Enabling the Local Weather package requires
setting Enabled local weather module from the Local Weather Settings
menu, yet the rest of the settings a user is likely to want are in the
Local Weather dialog. As a first step to sorting this out, I'd like
to do the following:
2a) Move the Enable local weather module checkbox to the Local Weather dialog.
2b) Move Local Weather Settings to the Debug menu, on the
assumption that more users will never need to modify the settings
there (Thorsten R. - is this true?)

3) Split the Jetway Settings, and move the Enable jetway editor,
Debug mode and Open Editor buttons to a new dialog in the Debug
menu. Again, on the basis that most normal users have no interest in
these controls.

Comments?

Hi Stuart,
This is indeed some custom (Belgian) scenery i'm working on. 10 wip
airports co so far. Trying to model pieces of Belgium in the hope it will
be included into the scenery db, but not now yet. This is to much in
development work. Still exploring the internals and experimenting... There
are still lot's of things i may need to learn, to do and to correct, and
i'm not yet satisfied with my own work so far. But my data is on my git
repo[1], GPL'ed data of course.

I'm not sure this is related to the btg (terrain?) file itself, but i'm
new in this all and could be wrong. I have this issue on the default
scenery with that generic cooling towers everywhere. But not on tires smoke
for example. I don't get any output on the console about that however. This
issue happen on my Debian (testing version) laptop with nVidia Corporation
G98M [GeForce G 103M] (rev a1) and on my stable Debian desktop with nVidia
Corporation G92 [GeForce 9800 GT] (rev a2). Both using the nvidia data.

Sounds logical to me ...the double weather systems are a bit of
nuisance , would be nicer, in my opinion , if they could be combined
in a single dialog but not sure if that's possible.I use real
world weather anyway , so i never use those settings.
Cheers

[Flightgear-devel] Effects and shaders

2011-07-09 Thread John Wojnaroski
Hi,

Trying to get my head around all the effects and shader stuff...

Are there some default effects and shaders that must run? Or can they
be disabled?

As a test I removed the Effects directory and turned off all the
shaders called out in the original preferences.xml file (running FG-2.2
and OSG-2.8.4)

Got the following crash

[castle@tower FlightGear]# ./run-2.2
Processing command line arguments
can't find Effects/skydome.eff
can't find Effects/terrain-default.eff
can't find base effect Effects/terrain-default
./run-2.2: line 6: 19880 Segmentation
fault /usr/local/src-2.2/flightgear/src/Main/fgfs
--fg-root=/usr/local/share/Flightgear/data-2.2 --airport=KSFO
--timeofday=noon

The shell script

#!/bin/sh

/usr/local/src-2.2/flightgear/src/Main/fgfs \
--fg-root=/usr/local/share/Flightgear/data-2.2 \
--airport=KSFO \
--timeofday=noon

Where are the default effects and shaders specified?

Thanks
John

Never mind, find them in materials.xml file,

however, would still like to turn these off while testing and mucking

The DME value is stored as a floating value, with more* precision than

So your input of 115.7 is turned into 115.70*.
