Re: [Flightgear-devel] Flight tracking

2007-04-09 Thread Julien Pierru

Curt,

Only the CVS server (5002) is tracked, hence your flight not being tracked
is due to the fact that you were on 5000.
On a related note Gabor, the last flight I made that was tracked looks
screwed up. It shows me flying a weird track over Antartica...(F-105).

[Flightgear-devel] B52 around the earth flight

2006-08-14 Thread Julien Pierru
I successfully flew around the earth with the B52, following the historic flight flown by 3 B52 in January 1957.It took me around 40 hours and 6 air to air refueling from a KC135 flown by shavlir to make it. Only the first 3 aar were unsuccessful due to non matching and oscillating speeds between mp aircraft. The remaining 3 were perfect and lasted about 20 to 30 minutes to refuel about 3/4 of the tanks.
FG handled very well under the circumstances, no noticeable memory leaks, but a few things did break down. (made for a more realistic flight ;-P) For some reasons the 2D panel lost its lighting (red) over Hawaii and I was never able to recover it (landed without instruments in a pitch black night) and the property tree had a few nervous breakdowns as well, would stop updating for a while...Other than that it was awesome.
You can see the path taken on FG tracker at:http://fgfs.i-net.hu/modules/fgtracker/?FUNCT=FLIGHTFLIGHTID=4015You might have to zoom out a bit on google map to see the track. there is a corrupted data point in there so you can't see the ground speed. I'll ask KoverSrac to remove that point.
Here are some air to air refueling at dawn over Guam:http://fgfs.i-net.hu/modules/xoopsgallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album32

[Flightgear-devel] FlightGear MP authentication

2006-07-25 Thread Julien Pierru
After a few month of testing the tracker for flights on CVS MP servers has proven quite reliable. I think it would be a great feature to be made available to the entire FG community. However with a production use comes the problem of positively identifying a user on a MP server, so that no 2 users can have the same callsign.
So KoverSrac and I think that an authentication system would be useful. Authenticated users could have their callsign protected and have their flights tracked (for those who don't know what I am talking about visit:
http://fgfs.i-net.hu ).A few questions arise, first what do you guys think about an authentication system, second what would be the best way of implementing it within FG and third would it be limited to be used by the tracking system or as a way of moderating the mp servers.
The online flying has become extremely popular over the last few month as the load on the available servers can show ;-P.Sound off!Julien

After hanging for about 5 minutes it ended in a segfault, and the only
reason i said it was a route manager crash is because it happened while

the time.

It might not be the route manager, I should have titled my previous

up).

I just wanted to report it so that others can try and reproduce it as I didn't have the time at the moment.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Icing

well i think that you would need dense clouds to do that so you could just check for the altitude and see if it is within a cloud layer. Also i have seen pictures of ice on aircraft in flight and they were nowhere near a cloud. For example the contrail is a result of high moisture in the air and that doesn't mean that contrail only happen in the clouds...

[Flightgear-devel] Formation Flying

2006-05-10 Thread Julien Pierru
Hi allLast night Dave, shavlir, Eow^^ and I successfully flew in rather tight formation for about 20 minutes. At any given times our 4 aircraft were contained within a 50 meters diameter volume. We managed to maintain an arrow shape formation with Dave Culp in lead shavlir #2 on his right wing, me #3 on his left wing and finally Eow^^ as #4 on my left wing. We also switched to diamond and shavlir and I both moved from Dave's left wing to his right while remaining in formation.
With a little more training we can close up a little better, we even managed a formation landing...It was awesome. You can check out screenshots of this flight at the following locations:

http://www.geocities.com/eow_fg_mp/I am looking for a good aircraft for this exercise, the OV_10 was good since it was stable, easy to control its speed and great field of view.
However I'd like one with nav instruments as well, for future flights following a flight plan;)Regards,Julien

[Flightgear-devel] New MP servers

2006-04-15 Thread Julien Pierru
With the new FG version 0.9.10, os released the new server code to be
used as stable. So from now on we should redirect 0.9.10 users to the
stable servers on port 5000. That also means that 0.9.9 users have to
upgrade to fly online.

We also updated the CVS users server. I added a patch that can be
enabled by the server's owner to render the server tracked, meaning
that users will be able to check out a detailed log of their flights.
So far only mpserver03 and mpserver02 have this capability. So check
your stats at http://fgfs.i-net.hu.
(KoverSrac wrote the web server side of the tracker).

Feel free to comment.

Julien

So as of today the 737-300 has 5 different textures that you can choose from and switch midflight if you want.

I don't know if it will make it to CVS, I'll ask around to see if they are interested in having it in.
In the mean time I will make an archive of the 737-300 directory so

oh and i forgot to mention the server is located on the East Coast of the US.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Ground structures pulled from diagrams.

2006-03-06 Thread Julien Pierru
Right now svg2ac creates one .ac file containing all the buildings, another containing all the runways and a last one containing all the taxiways. It would be easy for someone to go in the .ac file using either blender or AC3D and edit the geometry, to add features such as towers, modify the height of the buildings aor improve their shape.
Texturing could also be done, or colors can be added directly in the .ac file. The output of svg2ac is not necessarily a finish product, it is a first step that indeed cuts down the developer's work when creating sceneries.
This code can also be used to create any kind of buildings from a vector image, such as city blocks or what have you.Julien

Yes svg2ac can be a real improvement in speed, the whole process takes seconds(except for the altitude fetching part, but that can be improved~minutes). The errors currently can not be corrected in Blender, the first one is a bug in my code, the second is inherent to FG(but there are techniques to fix that).
Basically what we need is pdfs of buildings layouts, that we can convert to svg and then to ac using svg2ac. So far we have been able to find only airports, but we haven't really looked around for detailed city maps.

The CVS server for svg2ac is up so you can checkout away:Go to the website http://flamebunny.homelinux.net/svg2ac.php for detailed information about how to get and run the code, otherwise here is the cvs command:

$ cvs -d :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/root loginno password so just type ENTER
$ cvs co svg2acJulien

Tiago and I have been working on this pdf-svg to ac converter, that uses airport pdf maps to create 3Dimensional models loadable in flightgear. Those models are complete with runways and taxiways. Attached is a screenshot of the buildings at Wiesbaden. We still have a couple of bugs as you can see on the picture (wrong location and non-convex problem). We are currently trying to fix them.
You guys might be interested in incorporating these buildings in the scenery for the linux show, provided we got them working correctly. Any help or suggestions that you may have are more than welcome.

Re: [Flightgear-devel] svg2ac

2006-02-26 Thread Julien Pierru
Well we have an SVG parser that reads the input svg file and extract
the polygons for the keywords buildings, runways taxiways. The
vertices are then stored and duplicated to create the roof. The side
polygons are computed by duplicating again 2 consecutive nodes that
form an edge.
The altitude is fetched from a running session of FlightGear via telnet for the location of the center of each building.
All the coordinates are then converted to meters using the 4 Lat/Long
lines present in the SVG file and then the Lat/Long coordinates of the
origin is obtained, this is needed in the .stg file.
That's pretty much it. I recently tried a new airport (Toronto, CYYZ)
given by Ampere, it looked pretty good besides the two problems
presented in the previous email.

[Flightgear-devel] FG+Atlas+Citation Bravo=FGmap

2006-02-12 Thread Julien Pierru
I always thought that a GPS style map in the glass cockpit of the
citation was missing, well that's been taken care of. This is
still early work, but it works, the map gets updated every 5 seconds
(more than enough given the resolution of the map). Here is a
screenshot:

http://flamebunny.homelinux.net/pics/fgfs/FGmap.jpg

I am now trying to integrate it a little better (now it's a bunch of
scripts to get the image from Atlas) into FG and maybe make it
interactive within FG.
Any suggestions that you may have are welcome.
