Hey folks.. How about using something like maps.cloudmade.com to create a
custom styled openstreetmap tileset for a moving map? Alternatively a
mapnik style could be created. There was a style for aviation paper chart

moving maps (could be useful for real world as well).

Cloudmade just makes it easy to experiment quickly with style and colors,
and afaik they serve the tiles.

Hi Tuomas

Thanks for your proposal. Thats is something we already have for
FlightGear, you can have a look here: http://map.fgx.ch. When you want
to help please feel free to start to post some tickets for bugs/feature
requests etc. in http://trac.fgx.ch/trac. You can also contribute of
course to this small project. There is a bot running for getting the
output of the mpservers, but this needs some overhaul the next weeks.

That looks very impressive! A vast improvement on the Atlas-map-ZKV1000
route that I am currently using.

Is there a possibility of adding Lat-Long grid lines? It looks almost ready
for deployment.

No doubt someone will come along again and say that FG can´t use Openstreet
maps. ;-)

The ZKV1000 tiles are the same as Atlas tiles, with the addition of parts of
the adjoining tiles to ease the problem of flying near tile edges.

Hi Alan,

Thank you ;=))

Yes, on both the hondajet and da42, clicking the
first button on the bottom row of each, the PFD,
and MFD, DID THE TRICK ;=))

I 'thought' I had tried this before but obviously
NOT ;=()

And reminding me of the ctrl+c, to highlight the
'clickable' items also helped... I had forgotten
this ;=(( So many things/keys to remember...

The display is BEAUTIFUL ;=))

Now, even more than before, I want DETAILED,
feature rich images ;=))

If only I can find a WMS server to fully oblige...
and maybe as some have suggested, that could be
the online, if available, 'source' of the
display...

And/or convince Atlas/Map to also add airport/navaid
overlays onto the maps, like it did in the past...
either as an option to Map, during the map creation,
or have a capability in Atlas to dump the
maps-with-nice-detailed-overlays to disk...

BUT ANYWAY, TAR MUCHLY ;=))

Just a idle thought... lots of aircraft could benefit
from having such PFD/MFD displays... maybe as a
sort of hand held device you carry on board,
without all the modes/autopilot features, since
we do need to keep the 'realism' of only what
exists in each aircraft at manufacture...

Sort of like a 'super' hand-held GPS device... or
maybe we have that already???

Have downloaded your TSR2.zip - quite a slow
download, but no problem - and thank you.

I assume I unzip this into a new folder -
fgdata/Aircraft/TSR2
and looking forward to trying this also as
soon as time allows...

Many thanks again...

Regards,
Geoff.

I have just tried the Hondajet and this works.

( If needed press Ctrl-C to highlight the hot-spot controls.)

On the left hand screen (the PFD) I pressed the 1st button on the bottom row
below the screen. The main flight instruments (horizon etc.) appeared on
the screen.

I repeated this with the right hand screen (the MFD) and the map came up.
The buttons are dynamic and their function depends upon PFD and MFD mode
setting.

Perhaps the author(s) could offer some help. ;-)

If you want to try the same with my TSR2,
(http://v-twin.dynip.sapo.pt/alan/VickersAircaft/TSR2/TSR2.zip) operate the
'lamp select' toggle switch below the brilliance control, which is on the
bottom left of the circular map display.

Try this to find where the ZKV1000
 looks for the maps.

In file ZKV1000\Nasal\map.nas add this line at the end of
 the function
 init.map (i.e. after line 32, mapsAbsolutePath = home ~
 maps; but before
 the } at line 33) :-

 print (maps path absolute:
 ,mapsAbsolutePath, relative:
 ,mapsRelativePath,\n);

When it runs you should see a printout in the command
 window.

Congratulations.

Just look for all references to ZKV1000, pfd and mfd in the Hondajet/Da42
and do something similar in your aircraft. Best of luck. The Hondajet/Da42
author may be able to assist here.

To get it into Git, just ask on this forum and I am sure that one of the
developers with commit-rights will help. You can also put the aircraft on
your own internet site, and advertise it here and in the FG forum.

Best of luck.
