ATTENTION ---

This is a urgent call for anyone who is interested in volunteering at
the International Concerned Family Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal
organization (ICFFMAJ) this summer. We are a international
organization fighting for justice and freedom for Mumia Abu-Jamal.
We have many ICFFMAJ offices throughout America and in many
other countries. The organization was started by the MOVE
organization here in Phila. PA and Pam and Ramona Africa are the
coordinators of the movement. The headquarters of ICFFMAJ is
here in Phila. and we are in need of a individual who would be able
to work in the ICFFMAJ headquarters office full time for a month
or more during summer. We are in desperate need of someone to
organize rallies, conferences, press conferences, make flyers and
keep up the office. With Mumia's court hearings coming up
things are getting more and more busy and crazy. We need
someone to stand by Pam and support her. If you are interested in
volunteering at our office please call 215-476-8812 or 215-476-5416.
You can e-mail us back at [EMAIL PROTECTED]

P.S -- If you know of anyone who would be interested in
 volunteering please let them know.

Roots, Mos Def And Others For Mumia

*Mark your calenders for June 3. That is the date when some of Hip
Hop's most talented players will come together for a benefit concert
at Hunter College for Mumia Abu-Jamal and victims of police
brutality. The show's line up includes, Mos Def, Wyclef Jean, dead
prez and Black Thought of The Roots. The following week The Roots
head on out to the SF Bay Area to do another benefit concert for
Mumia. It's called 'Bringing Mumia Home' and will feature a number of
Bay Area performers including Dwayne Wiggins of Tony Toni Tone. This
will take place at the Berkeley Community Theater on June 10th.

For those who haven't been following the Mumia case. He's a former
Black Panther, writer and award winning journalist who has spent the
past 18 years on Pennsylvania's death row. He was convicted of
killing a police officer after coming upon a scene in which his
brother was being severely beaten by police. During the ensuing trial
there were many who believed that the trial was distorted and crucial
evidence that would've shed a different light on the outcome was
disallowed. Mumia's case has drawn International attention with the
demands that he be given a new trial. When looking at the larger
picture, Mumia has come to represent the problems that many have with
the rapidly expanding Prison Industrial Complex. Last week there was
a regional March here in SF to bring attention to the Mumia case and
more then 15 thousand people showed up. For more info on Mumia check
out his website http://www.mumia.org. As for the upcoming 'Bring Home
Mumia Show at the Berkeley Community Theater show call 510-848-6767

FLUXLIST: Brian Lane

2000-05-24 Thread Sol Nte

Does anyone know anything about Brian Lane?...he was involved in some Fluxus
performances here in the UK in the late sixties/early seventies plus other
avant-garde activities.

He died last year and some of his close friends are trying to put together a
memorial tribute/exhibition. I never knew him or much about him but I got
asked to ask anyone I knew interested in Fluxus because of his Fluxus
connection.

If you have any memory of him or his work please let me know...feel free to
send the info to the list or to me direct ( [EMAIL PROTECTED] ) . Please
forward this e-mail to anyone else who may have known/heard of him.

cheers,

Sol.

FLUXLIST: Poetry Submissions

2000-05-24 Thread Roger Stevens

Hi

Just a reminder that the great Fluxlist Poetry Hunt
is nearly over
Last chance to enter - last day of May

No hard and fast rules
No soft and slow rules
Any poetry that you feel is in the spirit of Fluxus

Found poems, changed poems, lost poems, poems created by constructs,
at random, by chance
in playful mood
by constructs constructed randomly or by chance
or by coincidence or by inconsistency

Just make sure you put Poetry Submission in the subject header
(because it's difficult sometimes to know just where
to draw the line between text and poetry -
just as it is also difficult sometimes to know
just where to write the poem between art and draw

Also include your name as you would like it to appear
in the final book
plus any other information

soo

any last minute entries?

(you may also send poems direct to me
if you'd prefer)

lightworks is a great magazine with muchflux stuff in it. and charlton burch
is a very nice guy. buy back issues. send him lots of money.

How about if somebody scans the pages and rips the audio from their copies
and then puts them on the web for everybody to enjoy?

This would be very beneficial because people who'd never know about Mr. Burch
and his mag otherwise would suddenly be enlightened to them!

FLUXLIST: New Website in the works.

2000-05-24 Thread TimJReed

Hi everyone,

I really enjoy the mailing list, as I have been subscribing for over a year.
I'm presently a 24 year old working on what is most easily described as an
MFA at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.

The skinny: I'm putting together a not for profit web site that will feature
pieces of art, from video to collage from young artists around the world.

Because of my personal involvement with fandom, ala beck, I have come into
contact with many talented artists who produce pieces that are worthy of
display. They might not be recognized yet, or they might just be lazy, but
their work isn't out there. I want to change that.

So I'm going to.

I'm looking for artists from 1-28 with absolutely no gallery experience, who
will retain COMPLETE ownership of their art to consider my ideas of how to
display their art on the web. Again, this isn't about me making money, in
fact, there will never be art sold on the site.

I have a professional web designer who is passionate about the art, and I
have some resources and contacts (free web space on a dedicated server) to
make this happen.

Please contact me if you are an artist who wishes to discuss this endeavor.

All in all, I want the experience to be fun.

Punch and pie will be served.

Tim
